Just kidding, but she brings the heat.
she’s sexy as fucking hell.
That said, MMA fighters have shit striking technique, that’s not news to anyone :-p
also that muscle mass thing (mean carrying 20-25% more) might just mean that technique trumps muscular strength
GASP

Fuck…I’ve been doing it wrong. throws ShakeWeight in the trash
I’m a bit concerned with the science behind the show. Both Moe and Houston performed a straight punch. Lucile on the other hand performed a hook after a wind up. Anyone who’s been in boxing for more than a few months knows that while straights are the shit in terms of accuracy, hooks can generate ALOT of more force.
I agree with Aussie. Saw the show a few months back and decided it was bullshit because if they aren’t going to test the same kind of punch then why test at all?

Agreed.
However, this was interesting:
"Could Manny Pacquiao or a 135 lb power puncher Edwin Valero hit harder than a 205 MMA fighter like Houston Alexander or Kimbo Slice? "
This i would be genuinely interested in finding out.

You’re right on. But her form is impressive.

Definitely. Interesting as well, she stepped across, switched her hips, then wound up and snapped out the hook from a wide angle.

Ya, she was going for max power…not just to make contact. I dont know how much that would apply in most boxing matches.
Agreed on different type punch, but still impressive technique.
Different episode www.mmamania.com/2007/10/07/sports-science-rampage-jackson-hits-hard-video/
Interviewer: How do you hit so hard?
Rampage: Me? How do I hit so hard? I put ass into it.
I don’t understand this… you don’t test two different punches and claim to be scientific lol.
Of course a hook is going to be harder than a cross… duh

This. Also, as mentioned later on, not only was it another punch, also the stepping was completely different.
yeah it’s a little iffy, but her technique is the shit…if she was at a bar and a guy fucked with her…her givin a sucker punch would fuck up MANY a men lol.
that said…I feel as if my straight right is my deadliest punch I think…the power I can produce in a straight shot is much more than a hook. A hook needs more of a wind up…if your just goin for a shot…pushing off of the back foot and lunging forward with a straight right…that’s a deadly punch.
yep, 2x2 totally different techniques.
Fight Science shows continually that “scientific methods” can be tricky if you don’t thoroughly understand the subject. That, however, can also lead to a certain amount of bias, so…
I wouldn’t say that “MMA Boxing” is weaker then Boxing per se. It’s just that it’s so much harder to successfully use your fists in combinations, do setups, counterpunch etc if the whole body is truly involved. It is highly debatable which form of fistfight is “purer”, Boxing or “MMA-Boxing”.
To illustrate this better: Tae Kwon Do displays kicking best, it’s the strength of that sport.
However, against Thaiboxing or Kyokushinkai, a Tae Kwon Doin will usually get his ass handed.
I disagree, to be honest, I’d just say it’s a fact that the level of boxing skill in most low and mid tier MMA fighters is shithouse. There are still plenty of high level MMA fighters that display great boxing skills, GSP, BJ Penn, Rampage, etc, Hell even Forrest has some pretty good boxing.
For example I was watching Mike “quick” Swick doing pad work on a video blog the other day and his trainer starts a dicksucking session afterwards about how “quick” Mike swick is. On closer inspection of the video, you’ll see Mike doesn’t extend his arms all the way out, nor does he return to his chin.
Furthermore, he’s not putting his hips into the punches. It’s all well and great to say you have fast hands, but when you only have “fast” half punches, you lose the privalege of having that title. That’s like me saying saying ozzy osbourne is the fastest puncher in the world because his hands shake at 60 km/h.
Did anyone notice that they are as well wearing different size gloves? Or is it just me?

…an still I keep chanting the mantra “it all comes down to the fighter” over and over again…

Amen.
That shows mostly bogus. They did one measuring vertical jump and the guy tucked his legs to jump over a small convertible and they said his vert was in the 50"s. No shit he was over 50" off the ground, his legs were tucked. I don’t watch it anymore 'cause it’s so fucking irritating with it’s innaccuracies and half truths.
Also, no shit a boxer punches harder than an MMA fighter. Boxers train nothing but punching for hours a day years on end. MMA fighters generally train multiple qualities, thus being a jack of all trades but master of none. The law of specificity.
