I wish there were articles on this site that explained all of this in simple black & white language. most of the articles on nutrition here already assume you know all of this stuff. [/quote]
Things are really simple, you just haven’t grasped onto it yet. You seem to be wanting to follow a low carb/keto diet. There are other ways to diet down, for example WITH carbs. They are both effective and the one you can handle the longest is probably your best bet. By reading the articles on this site, you would assume that eliminating carbs is the only way to go, not true. Enough of my rant.
This should help you out a little if you want to follow a low carb / ketogenic diet.
Food Sources:
-Proteins
Poultry, Pork, Beef, Eggs, Other meats, Fish, Protein powders
-Fats
Pork, Beef, Other fatty meats, Fatty fish, Eggs, Nuts & Nut Butters (in moderation), Oils (ex: Olive oil, Coconut Oil, Macadamian Nut Oil, Fish Oil ect…)
-Carbs
Green Fiberous Veggies, Some fruits (not fruit juices), you will also get trace amounts of carbs from your Nuts/Nut butters, eggs, and protein powders.
There you go. SIMPLE. Eat those foods, when ever you eat and add them up to reach your caloric goals.
If you’re aiming for Ketosis (or just looking to NOT go through hell while low carbing), up your fats high enough to make up for the caloric deficit you’ll be in because of the lack of carbs. It will take a few days or even just over a week to fully “fat adapt” and feel fine on a diet like this. If you’re unsure on where to start with your macros/calories try this: 1.5grams of protein per lbm & .5gram of fat per lbm. Thats what Dave Palumbo suggests and I use a similar ratio myself when I low carb.
Good luck.
