Do l see unit attached to floor joists to prevent racking?

@Californiagrown - that trail is outstanding. A couple of rad features between trees!

Tonight’s drawing practice.

As if I wasn’t convinced already that i was born in the wrong generation, I took up a new hobby - woodcarving.
A couple of recent projects below. Ladybugs to turn into fridge magnets for the better half and a folk art fish key chain.

This afternoons thing–a braided parachord jump rope. I didn’t like the weight of my previous one (too light) , and it’s some kind of foam/rubber that really holds bends/shape way too well to be of any real use.

So I figured this might work.

It’s pretty good. Now that I’ve figured out ending the weaves and making loops and stuff I will figure out some swivels and handles to make some nice ones.

Bolt on Plate Racks. Drill Press wouldn’t turn the hole saw. Ended up cutting the holes out with a torch and hand filing them to the size so the pipe would go through. Took about an hour apiece to file them so everything fit.

That’s not where they are going, but I wanted to stress test them real quick.

Today’s thing: My buddy’s stump grinder needed some work. (still does).

Just glad it’s done and fits. :relaxed:

Thanks! All I got remaining is the two set of stairs.

How do you use a stump grinder?

Are you supposed to sweep back and forth across the top, or up and down moving from front to back? How do you not get all bound up?

Interesting question!

I use mainly the front quarter of the cutting wheel, from 2-4 o’clock. Starting before the edge of the crown at the 4 o’clock point of the cutter wheel(usually some surface roots to get through) sweeping across, down, back, down across again, repeat until reaching desired depth, taking small downward increments to keep wheel speed high.

Moving forward, again, small (maybe an inch or so) increments and repeat sweeping/milling.

Too much of a bite will result in too much wheel being used and the machine will just bounce (big machines) or launch forward and crash/tip over. Same with using the bottom of the wheel.

Getting a good deep start is best, preferably from a slightly down hill/lower position.

That was easier said than done x 10,000.

Edited to add:

Keeping the machine from climbing the pile shavings helps keep it stable and prevents from trying to use too much wheel.

Sometimes backing out and cleaning them up till you’re back down to grade is necessary. It used to just be part of our process to have one guy operating the machine and another raking them into a rubbermaid and dumping them into the truck for disposal.

So it’s tough for everybody, not just amateurs!

Absolutely.

It really is a grind! :joy:

(I don’t mind using the machine, I just don’t like clean up.)

Did this a couple of weeks ago and don’t think I shared it. Arash has been pestering me for years to draw him, so one night while looking for something to use for practice I just grabbed a Few shots from his IG. The faces could be better, but honestly I should have worked larger so I could focus on the details without the image getting all pixel-y.

I put this together about a month ago. I’ve wanted a cable attachment and, with gyms closed, I’ve seen tons of similar ones advertised for purchase. I took their idea and made my own with stuff I already had or could easily get. I can set it a different heights using tow straps on the pins in my rack. It’s been great for tricep push downs, seated cable rows, face pulls, wood choppers and lat pull downs.

I may add a second pulley to offset the swing of the plates. It would be a shame to lose some teeth.
