We became the laughing stock of the US. His financial ideas and plans flopped horribly. Kansas voted blue for Governor this last time around.
And on an election note, it really sucks when you’re stuck picking the least bad option.

I have a vague recollection of this …
Bud, my utopian ideal is anarchocapitalism … i.e. I vote with my dollar and fund what I want. Practically, either dead on Classical Liberal or slightly to the left of that (think Chicago school economics) … To me every election is like this…
Me too. I’m glad I can do it again. Apparently, having a strong heart is good for you.
But yeah. It is very calming and really life enhancing. In a condition where feeling good can be a little harder to come by an easy and beneficial feel good like lifting or jamming away on an aerodyne is a real blessing.
I would say that there is a fitness/lifting connection between people who’ve had trauma and people who have dealt WELL with it, because the energy has to go somewhere. I also think there is a desire to make oneself inviolable to the extent possible. It’s no secret that I’m a runner, with weights coming in a distant second for me. Getting out of the way is and always has been my first line of defense because my size and build don’t allow for any strength I might develop to be more than superficial. I was also very good, at one time, at fading into the woodwork, and I am exceptionally non-threatening as needed.
@SkyzykS, I’ve liked you immensely since forever ago, but reading your story ratchets my respect, which you already had, up yet another notch. This:
Squeezed my heart almost to death. My husband fell apart watching Big Fish on Wednesday. Like, he had to leave the room crying when the father died, and it’s really a goofy movie. I’m not sure why, he wouldn’t tell me wtf happened, but I have a feeling it’s fear of something happening to him because of what it would do to ME. He’s my home, the first one I’ve ever had, and he knows this.
@Jewbacca, I had the outline already of what happened to you, but I’d never seen the specifics. I join the others in offering late, but heartfelt, sympathy. How horrific, and how incredible that you’ve been able to become the measured, thoughtful man you are.
How dare you. How absolutely dare you!
Oh, I dare, all right.
Of course, dude.
My respect for you all has grown after hearing more of your stories. Very empowering to know just how far you can get, even when you start so low.

I know. I don’t like “no, don’t do it!” either. Personal experience tells me that it is not that effective.
Here’s something I wonder- How many people actually take advice they hear?
In my experience, it depends on importance.
“Hey! This chewing gum is great! You should try it”
Recipient runs out and buys a case.
“If XYZ, you will die of cancer, car wreck, heart disease, etc… So don’t do that.”.
Recipient: “Yeah, fuck that. I saw a thing on the internet…”.
If the advice is asked for, I’d say frequently. If unasked for, rarely.
@liftangryordie500 isn’t specifically asking for advice in his posts, but he is saying that he’s trying to find an exit from pain and has only found one avenue. Advice regarding other possibilities may or may not be helpful, but it’s not an exercise in futility to offer it.
I believe that “get into bar fights and beat adults into a state of being unrecognizable” may have hit a happy chord. ![]()
Someone else may have already answered this, but my understanding is that Eurovision has nothing to do with Europe and everything to do with the countries that the Eurovision network is broadcast in. Australia takes part, as do Azerbaijan and neither of them could be said to be part of Europe.
Yesterday, I took my trusty sheath knife, my favorite baseball bat, and my sand-filled punching bag. I taped a picture of my brother to the top of it and i “killed” him.
I beat that bag for 10 minutes straight and then I jumped on top of it and stabbed the shit out of it. It made me happy.
I wonder how much worse unfiltered cigarettes are for you than filtered ones. Because I’ve been taking the filters out of all of them. They are so much more satisfying now.
honestly, enjoy your unfiltered cigarettes- the difference is minuscule. Companies put promote that shit to create a health halo so people can “justify” smoking more
I’d usually say to try and quit, but given what you’re going through, a bit of smoking is pretty low on the totem pole.
I mean…I got sober. I do want to quit, but I know for a fact I’d fail.
I feel like that mindset is part of the problem if you really want to quit (I’m not pressuring you to). Maybe it would be easier if you focused on some of the “bigger rocks” first, which might help change the sense of hopelessness
I’m by no means a mental health expert, so take my advice with a grain of salt
Just go forward, @liftangryordie500 . If you’re moving forward in any direction on any given day, good, you’ve won that day.
Oh, and spend more time dreaming than ruminating.
'Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"
‘That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,’ said the Cat.
‘I don’t much care where -’ said Alice.
‘Then it doesn’t matter which way you go,’ said the Cat.
‘- so long as I get SOMEWHERE,’ Alice added as an explanation.
‘Oh, you’re sure to do that,’ said the Cat, 'if you only walk long enough.”― Lewis Carroll, [Alice in Wonderland]
No, that mindset is definitely the problem. But it’s also the truth. When I quit the first time I was ready to quit.
I didn’t even really know this was a thing. What are unfiltered cigarettes? Like is that a certain kind? Cause the main ones like Marlboro and stuff all have filters, right?
