Things That Make You Chuckle

I have literally been asked, “Is your only motivation for working here money?”.

Yes, yes it is.

What a stupid fucking question.

I mean, not everyone feels that way

Yeah.

I also like the feeling of doing something that somehow ties into a greater good, but if the money isn’t there, neither am I.

Everybody loves the work hard but Not many like to pay hard.

I guess I need to add some more detail.

Money isn’t the ONLY consideration, but it is a large part of it.

I don’t know too many people that love their job working for free.

To put a better frame of reference this was asked to me when I was working at Walmart in undergrad.

I actually love my current day job and it pays REALLY well.

Same here and I would call pay I get reasonable to low for someone with my education and experience. However, I think engineers are drastically underpaid as a whole.

I think lawyers are drastically underpaid too…

I know my wife is. She teaches 5th grade - has an EDD and a masters. If it were not for her family having money / my income - she would be in the pauper house barely making it.

Which is fucked.

I imagine most people would stop going to work if they weren’t getting paid, but that’s not just because the job gives them nothing but money. If you aren’t getting paid, you probably have to do something else that will pay you in order to pay the bills. Also, most people have some feeling that if they aren’t getting paid, they are getting used.

I find a more enlightening way to think about it is to consider what you would do if your employer said that they would pay you no matter what. Would you still come to work? Would you still try? The gut answer might be no, but I think many people would find that life unfulfilling eventually. I won’t say that I always love my job, but I do find it fulfilling to solve problems and make things work.

My wife wants to work for the guardian ad litem office when she gets done with law school (this is her 3L thank goodness) so I feel your pain there. If i didn’t make what I make now we definitely wouldn’t survive.

I honestly don’t know how some families are making it these days.

very noble, but yeah they won’t pay shit. I couldn’t do it. I love children and I would want to kill too many people wading into that mess.

If you can swing a GC job at a large company, it pays very well. Certain areas of practice can too especially if you make partner or hang your own shingle.

You will always make the most money usually working for yourself.

I really don’t either with this inflation. Debt has to be skyrocketing.

I get the claims that he cheated. But why is the accusation that he was using a sex toy inserted into his anus? That is oddly specific and as far as I have seen there is no specific evidence of that particular manner of cheating. It was probably a conversation like this:

Person 1: Hans Niemann is really good. He must be using an engine.
Person 2: But how can he use an engine over the board?
Person 1: He probably has a vibrating sex toy inserted in his anus.
Person 2: That makes complete sense.

In the old days, you couldn’t wear long sleeves and play poker in case you had extra cards, or ‘an ace up your sleeve’, hence the phrase.

Maybe they wanted to make sure ole Hans didn’t have an extra pawn up his pooper.
