Thib's Q&A

CT,

With something like TRIBEX, it was often said to use it in patterns such as 5 days on and two days off or 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off, but if using a diffrent iingredient designed to boost testosterone levels every 7-8 days or so, how many weeks in a row can a different supplement for the purpose of increasing T levels be used before needing to take time off?

coach, i live in canada and cant find ZMA in my region. however, i take a supplement with calcium and magnesium (with vitamin D).the thing is though, im missing zinc. at a local wal-mart, they sell store brand zinc (100 pills) for only 4-5 bucks. they come in dosages of 50mg. there are two kinds, zinc citrate and zinc gluconate. my questions are: which one should i pick, how many a day should i take and what time of day should i take them?

thank you

CT,

I have a quick question for you. I read your article ??Shredded in 6 days??. I loved it. I??m glad someone on T-Nation finally addressed it. I really enjoy how you make things that are so complex in theory so simple in reality. That??s the true gift of a genius.

Anyways, I know you do not answer prescription medication questions. However, this is in theory. For simplicity sake, aldosterone is not a part of a specific negative feedback loop like cortisol, T4, etc. However, its release is partly controlled by the release of cortisol.

If I follow the protocol you recommended in the above article, my assumption is that there will be an elevated level of cortisol throughout that week due to the decrease in carbohydrate intake. If aldosterone is partially controlled by cortisol release, aldosterone levels will be elevated too. If I??m looking to cut water weight, this would defeat the purpose.

Not only would an aldosterone receptor blocker prevent this water weight, but it will also increase potassium levels. Thus, I kill two birds with one stone. Am I on the right track or am I missing something?

Coach,
I’ve read your Beast Building part I article and would like to know if you would recommend this program at the stage I’m in.

I have one more week to go of Berardi’s Get Shredded template, so I’m at a caloric deficit. After the week, I’ll be adding calories slowly every week. Is it alright to start your Beast Building template during this caloric increase, or wait until I’m at least at maintenance?

Coach, how do you make the transition from dedicated gym rat to bodybuilding competitor? How is this different for natural athletes? How many training years does someone need under thier belt? And finally I was wondering if Amit competes in a tested event or a non-tested, feel free not to answer that question if it is inapropriate or offensive. Thanks coach.

Regarding when to make the switch… impossible to tell… some people just start to compete to have a specific goal and take their training diet to the next level. Some wait until they feel that they have enough mass to make an immediate impact… others go right ahead even if they are not ready to do damage yet, just to gain experience.

Amit competes in both types of events. He has done the world championships 3 times, which is a drug tested (urine analysis) event.

Wait until you are consuming a surplus.

As you mentionned, I do not want to answer these types of questions. In fact I don’t even want to read it or answer questions from someone who posted such question in the future.

I apologize. I just wanted to know if there was an error in my thought process. Thanks

wut kind of diet would u recommend for vegan eating only eggs, diary, n protein shakes as a primary source of protein to lose stubborn body fat? Mostly a high carb diet everyday of the week

Thib,

What are your thoughts about men using fenugreek seeds in salads and various meals, worthwhile and healthful or not particularly?

Also, would the use of fenugreek tea in a post-workout shake(instead of just plain water) be useful or even without the seed itself would there still be soluble fiber in the tea that could lead to a slowdown of shake absorption?

CT,

For those seeking to limit carbs to 30 grams or less per day, would consuming 2 servings of Superfood daily be a potential issue? A supplement such as PaleoReds claims to have approximately 8 grams of carbohydrates per serving, so I was wondering if Superfood is similar.

Hi Thibs,

In terms of injury prevention have you any thoughts on using knee wraps when squatting? Does their use depend on how low your are going and the percentasges of your 1rep max being used? I have just started going a lot deeper in the squat and the scare mongers in my gym were advising me against going to low in order to save my knees?

Many thanks

Scott

The 8g is from fiber, so it is not a problem in that specific case. And even if you are at 35g per day instead of 30g it will make ZERO difference.

CT,

For maximum hypertrophy would you run your programs here on T-Nation in a specific order or are they more stand alone?

My programs on T-Nation are mostly to illustrate various concepts to be applied in an individualized manner.

Thib,
what would be a good dosage of licorace root in the morning to raise cortisol and should it be taken when i wake up or with the 1st meal.
since switching from night work to non night work i m finding it hard to wake up and get going. many thanks

Thib,

I’m starting on the Carb Cycling Codex. My goals are to gain some lean mass and I have some questions concerning my meals. I weigh 227 pounds, am 185cm tall and basically on “High Activity”. That puts my calorie goal on a moderate day as high as 4400kcal.

Eating 330g protein and 330g carbohydrates and a whopping 200g of fat. If I divide this amount of fat to three P + F meals that makes ~67g of fat per meal, which sounds like a shitload. Is it reasonable to eat this much of fat on a single meal? What foods would you suggest to take this amount from? I work out 4-5 times a week.

(Pardon my english. I’m not a native)

Coach, I’m positive you came into this situation at least once. After a period of training, let’s say 5 weeks out of no where my appetite increases. I mean I’m fucking starving, right after I eat my normal meals. So I have to eat something else, when your clients get like this do you recommend they go ahead and eat more, and what do you recommend…all protein (a nice 16 oz steak)? Protein and carbs (A double quarter pounder w/cheese)? or Protein and fat? or all 3 (Boston Market half a chicken meal)?

CT,
For the most part, In have altered phases of strength training with hypotrophy training and got good results.

Problem is that the strength training of 5 reps or lower has made my joints constantly sore. Old injuries tend come back easly despite using good form.

I am thinking it’s time to use more "bodybuilding type programs. Higher reps in the 8 + range don’t bother me. I know that using advanced techniques such as supersets, dropsets, etc. will lead to getting stale if used all the time.

Any advice on how to use different phases of BB programs to keep progress going? Thanks
