Thib's Q&A

Coach,
Would you recommend carb cycling (as outlined in your “Carb Cycling Codex”) for someone who is starting at a high % of bodyfat, if the individual is not losing a significant amount of bf on a simple low-carb diet and is showing hypothyroid symptoms such as low body temperature?
[/quote]

Not as presented in the article, but I might include 1-2 days of slightly higher carbs in the diet (slightly… not a high carb day).

But first and foremost I would have a doctor do a thyroid panel.

Thib,

For someone who would eventually like to work on contest prep for bodybuilders and figure competitors, do you have any recommendations on how to better prepare oneself for this task? I realize every individual is unique, however the current “experts” in this area obviously developed that expertise somehow, so I was just curious as to your thoughts on this.

  1. To be honest, there is no money in training competitive bodybuilders. Most of them are not interested in hiring a coach (they prefer to invest their money in ‘other things’). The few that want to hire a coach will look for those who are already well established. Besides the top bodybuilder trainers few guys make money training only bodybuilders.

  2. I love bodybuilding… but pre-contest bodybuilders are BY FAR the worse clients you can have. Why? Because they require a ton of attention and the closer the contest gets, the more a psychologist you must be!!! Bodybuilders tend to be lacking in self-confidence by nature and tend to freak out about anything pre-contest.

  3. The top ‘‘trainers’’ are actually more drug experts than anything. There are very few pure trainers out there… Charles Glass is one for example. I personally don’t like that side of the game which is why I limit my implication with pre-contest bodybuilders.

The only upside to training contest bodybuilders is if you are a trainer already; they make for good publicity.

Hey Thibs,

If you wouldn’t mind divulging what the French phrase Poliquin is talking about in his newest Q.O.S. article for “having some dog in you”, I would appreciate it. Call it simple curiosity from someone who took French only at the rudimentary level. I tried various queries in search engines and was unable to find it.

Thank you.

It was already discussed in that article’s discussion.

It’s translated into ‘‘avoir du chien’’. The meaning of that expression is similar to ‘‘having grits/behing gritty’’

Hey Coach I have just recently bought your Get Jacked Fast e-book, and had a question. I am currently 6’1 220 lbs with about 14% bf (according to my proffessor) and am wanting to lose some fat obviously.

My question is about the 1 cheat meal a week. I want to lose as much fat as possible during the program, and have no problem foregoing the junk food for a cheat, so should I instead just consume a higher carb meal for a cheat or skip it entirely. Just wanted to know your opinion.

Thanks and the program looks kick ass by the way.

OK just read the article, and it answered my question. Thanks.

CT,

I’ve noticed that when I go very low carb for extended periods coupled with a caloric intake that is on the low side that I do not find myself having cravings for much of anything that often, if ever.

And on the off chance that I do, it is usually for something like peanut butter or larger servings of macadamia nuts, almonds, walnuts, etc. when compared to what I may be consuming on a typical day during a fat-loss phase. As far as carb foods, I rarely feel an urge for them and often go for stretches of months at a time without having any pasta or bread.

Is there a particular physiological reason ( as opposed to mere personal preference) as to why I tend to crave “healthy” fats on the off chance a craving pops up?

p.s. Is your new 12-week fat loss program geared especially for any particular training age or experience level or would it be appropriate for anyone whether a rank beginner or an advanced trainee?

That’s because your body becomes fat-adapted and learns to rely on fat (and ketones) for fuel. So when your body is lowin energy it will crave (its way of asking for more fuel) fat because that’s what it now primarily runs on.

Regarding your e-book “Get Jacked”, the last page has an exercise called ‘overhead triceps extension’. Am I mistaken or is the image just a standing supinated to pronated DB curl?

There you go

Hello coach:

I’m starting from today a body transformation, I would say “a cutting phase” but I honestly look and have eaten like crap so I need to get things normal first.

I really hate cardio, so minimizing it is preferable.

I have two options in mind to start the BT:

  1. Normalize my eating patterns and start to reduce my carbs from there.

  2. Get to the point and start from now a low carb diet.

Which one would you choose?

Hey Chris,

I`d like to know how can I tell when I have adapted to a specific routine. I know that for some it might take 2 sessions for others 4 or 6. What parameters should I look after in order to know its about time for some change ?

THANKS IN ADVANCE
FROM DOMINICAN REPUBLIC !
