Thib's Q&A

Hey Thib. Probably a good time for this question with Biotest recognizing the benefits of leucine and releasing its own supplement. While I generally think it would be great to add to meals, I think it would be best to skip during the insulin protocol with Poliquin’s supplements. Agreed?

Not really. 3-5g of leucine will not raise insulin out of whack and it works via other pathways. Furthermore the insulin protocol basically make the muscle cells more sensitive to insulin so it would actually make leucine even more anabolic.
Sounds good. Nice to know that you can take advantage of the anabolic benefits even when fat loss and hormone control is the primary goal. Thanks.

Coach,

Do you use Biotest’s Superfood personally, do you recommend this or a similar product to the athletes you train?

Best wishes

Coach- With somebody who was dieting (low carbs) would it be ok for them to use 5 g of leucine (Biotest’s new Product) with each meal (protein/fat) or would the insulin response from the leucine be too much where it would slow fat loss? Thanks for your time Coach.
There will be no problem. Yes, leucine is insulinemic, but its main action is via other pathways, and at 3-5g there will be little insulin spike produced.

Coach I’m coming up on 14 days of a low carb(under 30g per day) diet and my cheat day is coming up. Instead of doing a full cheat day, could I do a half cheat the scheduled day and another half the following day? Or would that have some negative effects as opposed to the one full cheat day?
Honestly, unless you are lean, I would not do a full day of cheating and much less two half days. BTW, yes, two half days in a row is much worse than one full day.

But for a full recommendation on carb-ups read my article ‘‘Refined physique transformation.’’

hye Thib, im not sure how you run your client system or if you have openings but if I was to play hockey in canada next year what are the chances that you would have a slot to train me as a hockey plater or is that not how it works?

‘‘Live’’ clients… yes I do have openings. ‘‘Online’’ or long-distance clients … no

O no i mean live, it wouldnt be till next year but if I make this team I will deff want to be trained by you Thib! do you have any links as far as expenses go?
The big problem would be location. Don’t forget that surface-wise, Canada is the second largest country in the world. Just because you will be in Canada doesn’t mean that you will be close to my location. To give you an idea, some parts of the US are 3 hours away by car from where I live while some parts of Canada are 3 DAYS by car from where I live!

Then the second problem would be the language barrier. I live in the french portion of Canada. While you are with me you’ll have someone to talk to, but for the other 22 hours of the day you’ll be on your own.

…and even from a Canadian, old Quebecers are much harsher on the english speaking people than the rest of Quebec

Hey coach,

I have a couple of questions about the carb cycling program you posted. I’ve already done my calculations of my bulking phase of the program. I wondering if fat gain is going to be a true factor from the ingested carbs? Also, are the carbs you mentioned the only carbs I should be taking?

I’ve noticed wheat pasta and bread aren’t displayed on the meal choices, are they prohibited? I’ve also noticed a great deal in fat I am to consume on the same day as ingesting a high amount of carbs. Should the dramatic increase in insulin and ingesting fat actually make me fat? One more thing, what types of food should I be getting my fat from and what type of fats?

Coach-

As you’ve learned more about training through the years is there an article you’ve written that you’d recommend for someone who would like to lose 40lbs or so combined with your Refined Physique Transformation article? Thanks for your time.

this is true, yea ive been to canada but didnt realize it was so big but the league is called the quebec major junior hockey league so if i was to make one of those teams theres a chance one might be close to you because you do live in quebec right? The language thing might be kind of hard.

Thib, I don’t think you are answering in the article discussin anymore, so I hope it is okay to ask here now. For the nutrient breakdown of the The Regressive Ketogenic diet meals:

 1. Does it matter if the shakes are the last 2 meals of the day, or is any order fine? (you have it listed for every type that the shakes are the last 2 meals)

 2. In Type 3, is there any specific order for the p+f and p+c meals?

 3. Also for Type 3, should they all be solid meals or should 2 meals still be shakes? (I only ask because of the carbs in the shake. What do you recommend, fruit?)

Thanks Thib

Best hockey league if you want to be drafted as a pro.

The teams that are close-by (within 2 hours or so) are…

 • Quebec (20 minutes away)
 • Shawinigan (about 90 minutes away)
 • Drummondville (around 45-60 minutes)
 • Rimouski is not THAT far away

coach i had a question about your leg workout. i posted in that discussion. if u get a chance could you let me know what u think or i can post it here. whatever is easier. thanks

Thib,

I was reading a Q and A column online where the topic of thick bar usage was covered. When you have a free moment, I was wondering if you would read the brief answer given and provide your take on the information presented. I’ll place the link below rather than clog up your thread by cutting and pasting the information. Thanks!

Answering my on previous question I found some studies which were quite new and had found some propable connection in high vitamin-e supplementation (1000IU per day) and bleeding, through vitamin-K prohibition…

Now to the question: I have been doing trace carbs only for about 4 weeks while keeping calories under 3000 per day. Sometimes a little over 2500 if no activity. Average being 2700 per day. I have had one carb loading meal 10 days ago which put my calories for that day way over 4000kcal. having another carbup this weekend.

My weight dropped from 224 pounds to 207 pounds during this time. Current bodyfat is really close to 12% (not being measured, but I know from previous measures that this is what I look like at 12%, I’m getting measured this weekend) and when starting it was slightly under 20%. Am I dropping weight too fast and risking some muscle loss? Next week I will start adding some carbs to my post workout drink, while still keeping daily carbs below 50g. Is this a good idea? Should I eat that 50g carbs on breakfast on the off-days or keep it trace carbs only? I am also thinking of adding some calories at this point because I am leaner now, and might lose muscle easyer. Trying to shoot the average to 2900-3000kcal per day.

Im not here to argue at all but a few things baffle me?
1:You are a very well repescted man/coach and i personally enjoy reading your work as i do Poliquin.but why are your methods SO unorthadox and so based on science?

Most people train hard and eat well and get good results why do they need to worry about all this insulin stuff and whats with the super low carb diets?thats bad FACT!You can get ripped and still eat carbs so why do you use this?

IMO all the baffling science and different supplements and training methods you use will raise anyones cortisol level…I mean how many cheat meals a person can have etc…ppl have got to live and be happy not something a zero carb diet does is it?As ive already said i dont want ppl to write back and slag me off.if anyone has any usefull info on my opion please tell me thanks

coach!

ive been eating the same diet for a while now, a buttload of chicken, turkey, and shrimp.but one thing ive never ever changed is eating a shit load of eggs in the morning.

how long dose it take to develop a food alergy to eggs. or i guess the real question is, how long can you eat one thing before you need to change it up?

Hey CT I have a question on a fat loss training program. I am on a low carb diet, and have lost muscle on my past dieting attempts. Probably due to HIIT.

So should I follow a more tradidtional weight training program or should I be using metabolic training. I am confused as I have heard many different opinions on this.
