Thib's Prep

Thibs

Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

Not really about me, but here are some pics of my athlete Amit Sapir, 12 weeks out from his show. Diet starts next week.

BTW, the triceps shot will become better with time. When he begins his diet he is always too big to take the position properly and has to crunch forward!

He’s built like a house. Ideal physique IMO.

I still can’t get over his hammies… my god that’s a big lad… REALLY think and powerful looking…

He recently full squatted 770lbs for 2 reps

Christian,

Amit looks great his front lat spread is fantastic - great improvement in lat width. His waist looks much tighter and smaller.

Anyway, although this isnt contest prep related, from what I have read your raw strength is exceptional, both absolute and relatively, and although you clearly have nothing to prove, any thoughts on entering a strength-sport competition in the future?

Considering you have suffered little / no loss of strength in your prep, you would clearly do very very well.

That’s the first thing I told him too.

Ridiculous physique dude! I hope your hard work pays off and place well at the competition.

Actually I was referring to you Christian, although considering his numbers, both you and Amit could do some serious damage if you so wish!

I’m preparing for my first show in May. My question is how you eat after the show is done. The question sound simple but, I know that my metabolism will be low and I don?t want to have 10% bf after 1 week but I want to take the benefit of the insulin.

It’s the same show as you, I think, Quebec de lest. It will be very motivating to see you there!

Thanx

I may or may not do that show. I’m already qualified for the provincial so we’ll see.

Honestly, metabolism slowdown is WAY overexagerated. Long term studies (12-16 weeks) of extreme dieting (we’re talking 800-1000 calories per day), doesn’t really decrease basal metabolic rate significantly.

The only factors that could lead to a slow metabolism would be loss of muscle mass and thyroid shutdown. In the first case it only happens if you indeed lose a lot of mass, in the second case it generally only happen to bodybuilders who used thyroid medication like cytomel (T3) to lose fat.

I’ve known a girld who abused such a product to get ready for a show and who gained over 60lbs while barely eating anything and doing cardio twice a day.

Most people who end up gaining a lot of undesired weight are…

a) using thyroid medications
b) going hog wild with their post-competition eating and can’t get it straightened out
c) gain a lot of water weight… this is usually due to a water rebound from using diuretics.

My best recommendation would be to keep eating like you did for your prep, but gradually add in quality carbs at the right time (peri-workout mostly).

Interesting, I was assured that the metabolic shutdown is inevitable considering in the past I felt some of the “symptoms” after prolonged dieting and experienced severe fat loss plateu which stoped me progressing through diet.
Could you please post those studies about metabolism slowdown?
I would be most grateful, since this issue was huge subject of problems.

Not Thibs, but check out the Minnesota Experiments by Dr. Keys. “Biology of Human Starvation” Those guys’ behavior got a little weird, but they got just fine at starvation levels of intake.

Well done Amir… any updates lately?

Thib, i noticed u have a bunch of Metabolic Drive shakes. Would there be a differnce if you were to switch like 2 scoops of Metabolic Drive to Grow! Whey?

Huge? Not likely. But there would be some difference, mostly in satiety. Metabnolic Drive is mainly casein which is absorbed slowly while Grow Whey is mostly… well… whey! Which is absorbed faster and thus is less filling.

Hey CT I just saw this thread for the first time. Thank you for doing it. I have a quick question. If you would have had more fat to lose say 12-13% would you have stuck to the original UD or gone with the targeted carbs approach? I understand why you chose the targeted carb approach I mean it is a lot simpler, but would the original be better if you had been carrying more fat? Thanks

Oops…I posted and realized you had answered it in a previous post…sorry!

Good luck on this prep. Your plan looks awesome! Do you like to train 2 times per day most of the year or is this just for certain occassions?

Hey Coach,

Any progress to report?

Best,

DH
