Thib's figure athlete

I don’t normally do this. I always thought that coaches who posted about their client’s success are kinda taking advantage… but I’ll do it this once.

Today was the Quebec Open. Pretty big show, 280 competitors.

I only had one client competing (I never train more than 3 people for physique contests in a year… takes too much out of me) but she won the master figure short class and the open figure medium class. Finished second in the overall… it was close. My girl had better condition and muscle mass (in my opinion) but the other looked great with super lines and great stage presence.

Anyway I’m just boasting because she did this at over 40, with kids, working construction (she owns a flooring business) full time and doing martial arts!

Tons of carries were involved to have her drop the fat.

She was the first client I tested Micro-PA on BTW.

Now, provincials in about 3 months!

Figure overall “opponents”

Good coaching job, best of luck to your client in the provinvials.

Wonderful showing, even more so when you take into account all the factors of her life (something I can truly understand -lol).

Hope you keep us informed of how she does at the Provincials.

Will do! She’ll take one “free week” then her prep for provincials will start. The focus will be on her legs. That means lots of prowler work… when the snow finally melts!

I’m beginning to really love carries. I especially see a carryover in my grip strength for deads.

What kind of carry routines do you have her do? Would they be the same for a male if you thought it would be the best route?

Oh, and fantastic job. She looked great!

The amount of carries changed quite often and was adapted to the rate of fat loss so I can’t give you a specific pattern. Earlier in her prep she went for short sets with more weight (1 minute on/1 minute off) and at the end she was doing longer carries with less weight (2 minutes on/1 minute off).

I also had her do occluded stadium steps (occlude the quads by wrapping the highest portion of the legs with powerlifting knee wraps… tight enough to create a veinous occlusion, but not so tight to create an arterial occlusion… on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being very tight, it was about a 6-7).

Thanks Thibs! The length of time was not exactly what I expected, but interesting nonetheless. I’ll keep it in my back pocket for the future

She just looks fantastic. Great proportion. That is dedication. How are her attachment points doing, like forearm at elbow & such?
I just started carries for the first time in Dan John’s mass building routine. -CD
