I was thinking of giving one of CT’s older spec programs a shot for added gains to my slightly lacking upper arms. I havent done specialization work for any bodypart in over a year. This routine can be found in the Up for a Quickie - article (dated 2008 I believe).
My current layer system routine (although I guess it should be called continuous ramp routine at the moment):
Overhead press continuous ramp
SGHP continuous ramp
REST
Push press strength layer
Deadlift continuous ramp
Light chest & biceps day
REST
I’m healing from a pec tear which is why I only have overhead press variations. Also my joints can take the beating of frequent overhead work surprisingly well.
Here is what I’m considering for the next 4 weeks:
Overhead press continuous ramp
SGHP continuous ramp
Arms of Steel #1
REST
Deadlift continuous ramp
Arms of Steel #2
REST
Coach Thib, if you happen to read this, is it okay to mix these two very different programs for the short four weeks it takes to complete Arms of Steel? Also, do you still like the Arms of Steel routine or would you change it to make it match your current principles better? In your original article you spoke very highly of it.
edit: Also I realize you have outlined more recent arm spec methods at the Arms Obsession thread. Would you prefer I kept my current routine and just did the spec work from the thread as an ancillary to my workouts?
