Thib Gets Ripped

It is likely from some tomatoes I hate. Apparently there is a rampant salmonella problem with tomatoes right now.

Do you ever use a TKD during a cut to keep carbs around workout times or do u just still with the 1 to a few cheat meals for the carbs? it seems like a TKD would make sense getting carbs at the right time

CT,

Since it doesn’t look like you’ll be competing in any shows, do you see yourself sticking to your current training/diet long term to maintain your current physique, or will you eventually up your nutrient intake, and even add more carbs to your diet?

I do not ‘‘diet’’ … my nutritional habits are a lifestyle. I might eat a bit more, or in fact a bit less depending on how I feel, but I stick to the same types of food choices.

First of all the term ‘‘targeted ketogenic diet (TKD)’’ is a misnomer. Since you are ingesting carbs in a significant amount you might not actually enter a ketogenic state.

The appropriate term would be Targeted Carbs Diet. And yes I sometimes use it. Peoples who are under 10% body fat respond well to this type of dieting. But for those who are above 10% I stick to a regular low carbs diet when trying to stimulate fat loss.

However, in individuals who are anywhere between 10 and 18% body fat and are trying to add size while minimizing fat gain, a TCD is a good approach.

by regular low carb do u mean the traditional under 50g of carbs a day? (just asking because some people have different definitions of what “low carb” is) how many grams would be taken in for a TKD? i guess it depends on the leanness but is there a baseline u use around workouts?

interesting, i was thinking of a way to clean bulk and i have been strongly considering a ckd or tkd (or tcd apparently). i have been following ur “carb cycling codex” plan for the last 3-4 weeks with good results so far, being at 12.5% do u think someone in my position would see greater results (in terms of LBM gains with MINIMAL fat, being a definite endo/ffb)?

                                          Thanks

To me it’s not so much about total grams (although I normally do use the 50g limit) as the total avoidance of carb sources other than green veggies, residual carbs from protein powder and that found in nuts.

No… it’s an individual thing and it actually has to come from experience. You basically start with X amount and titrate it up gradually every week or so until you find a point where it leads to excessive fat gain.

I like to start at around 0.5 per pound and go from there, titrating up around 25g at a time.

If the CCC is working and the results you are getting are acceptable to you (good muscle/strength gain with little or an acceptable amount of fat gain) there is no need to change.

If you begin to gain too much fat you may want to look into TCD.

Coach T,

for the past few months, my knee has been having a weird feeling whenever i squat.

then a couple weeks ago, i begin to get some slight stinging pain on my knee when i squat (even if its with just the bar for warmup)

i thought it would go away eventually since the pain comes and go but lately its been persistent up to the point where i’ve decided i should stop squatting.

my questions are do you know any method that i can diagnose what kinda problem i have? or should i consult with a doctor?

when not squatting, what else can i use to train my quads (besides deadlift). i was trying to increase my 1rm for squat but i guess that will have to be on hold.

thanks

  1. This has nothing to do with this thread (it’s my own diet thread)

  2. I do not answer injury-related questions over the internet without being able to assess the individual

Oops,

My apologies. I mistook this for the other thread.

I understand coach T, thanks anyway

ok sounds good, if i start gaining fat too quickly i’ll start a TCD/TKD

I’m surprised about the comment for those above 10% to stick to low carb/no carb sources completely and that ur body doesnt need a refeed when in true keto. from all i’ve read on ketosis it seems from the research (at least what i’ve read) that carbs (at some point whether it be CKD or TKD) would be needed in order to maintain high intensity exercise(workouts)

Coach, I’ve been following this diet scheme for a few weeks now along with your “Destroying Fat” workout as well. A few questions…

Is it OK to use Surge post workout if I want to maximize fat loss? I don’t know if this matters but my workout is generally from 6-7pm so by the time I eat it’s around 8pm.

What kind of turkey are you using? I use the Shady Brook Farms extra lean ground turkey. Maybe you can suggest something better tasting? lol

Would beta alanine be a useful stack for this approach?

Thanks in advance coach.

Chris,

I read this entire thread and was going to ask a keto question but you had addressed it already. Regarding your sleep stack posted in the first page

BEFORE BED: ZMA 1 serving, GABA 5g, Glycine 10g, 5-HTP 200mg, inositol 500mg, vitamin B3 15mg

I have 3 questoins:

  1. would this only be used as a short term stack during cutting phases or could be used long term?

  2. did you use this only when needed or throughout your keto and modified V-Diet?

I have a hard time sleeping probably due to training after work (start around 7-8pm)

thanks for all of your contributions, i am currently carb cycling (using the guidelines from your article) with the Destroying Fat-War room stratagies workout too…

CT,

Hows things going on your end, re training and dieting? Current stats?

I imagine with work and your wedding coming up, you would be fairly busy…

Take care.

I opened a second office and I often have clients from 7am to 7pm, plus my online clients and wedding coming up. However I find that sticking to my diet is much easier in that kind of situation because I am so busy that I don’t think about food or get cravings.

Training is another story though. I do find time to train 4 times per week, but the overall volume is lower than what I normally do because of time constraints.

Coach,

When using the targeted carbs is it fine just to skip 2nd pwo carbs since I’ve noticed I tend to gain fat pretty easy when increasing carbs. Also is it just trace carbs on non workout days or just less than 50g

Thanks

my bad I posted that question in the wrong forum

Hi Coach

As all other, I really enjoy reading your posts and articles, it truely helps alot.
However, I do have a silly question.

Is there any way to find out(other than just try it for some time),
if you are insulin resistant or sensitive?

So far, my experience with Low carb has been good, and I am pretty well adapted.
Even though, it seems like I gain weight pretty pretty easy.
From monday to Saturday (still low carb) I gained 7 pounds!, and I am dieting down.
I was like, WTF…
I probably ate some more food than i should,
but this just shocked me, and put me right back to where I started :frowning:
So in 2 weeks my stats went like this:
Weight: 173 → 180
Height: 5’10"
BF%: 18 - 18.4
Musclemass: 65.4 → 66

According to a Tanita weight and my own.
But I am not sure if it is accurate and trustable.

Whatever, that wasnt my point.
I was just wondering, how to find out if I am insulin resistant or sensitive?
How many carbs I can handle.
Of Course, I have a pretty high BF, so I should shoot for around 30 - 40g,
according to your Refined article.

Once again,
thanks for taking your time to answer
all these qestions in here,
and good luck with the wedding

No way that’s great!

What a testament to Poliquin’s system!

What were all the variables you changed specifically from the last measurements and these?

Obvously you don’t have to name the specific protocol supplements, but generally; did you lower calories at all? Or simply replace your ratio of fats??

Incredible and congrats!

Well, at first I didn’t want to name the supplements that I was taking. But now that I think of it, if anything Charles will be glad if I do since he is the only one selling them!

The protocol I am following is:

Fenuplex: 2 caps per meal
Insulinomics: 2 caps per meal
Phosphatidylserine: 320mg post-workout and 320mg with supper
Ultra HCL 3.0: 2 caps per solid meal

On top of that I’m using:

3 caps of Flameout 3x per day
Power Drive post-workout
SURGE recovery post-workout (2 scoops)
Spike pre-workout[/quote]

Thibs which Phosphatidylserine make do you use? Thanks

Have there been any pics in this thread to mark CT’s progress?
