Hey Thib.

Since you aren’t using any Surge do you consume anything during your workouts?

What about pre-workout - are you taking any supplements?
[/quote]

I consume 10g of BCAA pre-workout, 10-20g during workout, and the following post-workout:

Whey isolate 50-60g
Glutamine 20g
Creatine 10g
Glycine 10-20g
BCAA 10g

what kind of whey isolate do you take

It’s from a Canadian/Quebec company that is not sold in the US.

nice, what makes that one so much better than ones sold here?

Well, isolate is isolate… MOST of the time. One of the problem in the US is that a lot of companies will sell an ISOLATE product, and claim it as such only because Isolate is the main ingredient. Sometimes it will have 75% isolate, 20% concentrate and 5% junk, but they can still claim that it’s an isolate.

The owner of the Canadian company is a friend and he gives me the spec analysis of the powder.

In the US there are much less regulation regarding supplements.

Biotest is one of the few companies that actually supply a top quality product. A lot of companies, especially the cheaper ones, are able to skimp on the quality of the ingredients and sometimes they do not meat label claims. A lot of people claim that Biotest’s products are expensive and they go the cheaper route. Listen, other companies are sometimes cheaper FOR A REASON! I can guarantee you that Biotest’s profit margin is not higher than the cheaper companies. The later charge less simply because they use less expensive, low quality ingredients.

In Canada the companies are inspected much more frequently and have to present product analysis several times a year.

So in other words there are only three companies I trust 100% and use:

Biotest (for most of my supplements… BCAAs, Beta-alanine, Metabolic Drive, Flameout, Surge Workout Fuel, Superfood, and Surge Recovery when in a mass gaining phase)

Poliquin’s company for Betaine HCL and some specialty items

XPN for whey isolate, glutamine and liquid fish oil (when I consume 45g per day, I use 1-2 servings of Flameout and 20-30g of liquid fish oil).

o ok I see, I mostly use Biotest besides products besides whey because I dont like the taste of the Grow! Whey. I use Gnc whey but everybody keeps telling me there stuff sucks.

Well… considering that I DID mention that it was them in an earlier post, it is a pretty safe bet!

Coach, do you have a link to the Canadian site for XPN? I did a search but only came up with XPN AndroXtreme on Canadian sites.

Thanks

Hey CT,
I had a similar question about the xpn protein you use. I found XPN (Xtrem Performance Nutrition-for us American’s who didn’t know)on Hugo Girard’s website and found a product called Whey-X. I tried to order it, but I don’t know french. When I searched Whey-X I came up with a product from Whey X by Hard Nurtition.

My questions are
1)You mentioned Canadian proteins better because they undergo stricter regulations unlike in the US, I found a candian protein called Iso-Flex what do you think about this product?

2)If I can’t get a canadian protein powder, what are some good companies you would recommend in the US for an isolate( I love Biotest supplements, but don’t like the taste of Grow! Whey)?

thanks for your time,
teebone2223

Canadian products are not necessarily better. Biotest for example is IMHO the company with the highest quality products out there.

But canadian companies are much better than the average US one.

I will not comment on any brands. As I have no experience with them.

As I mentioned I don’t have any experience with other companies than Biotest and will not answer questions about other companies, especially not recommendations.

And if you don’t like the taste simply mix it with crystal light. You can give it the flavor you want.

Thib, is the Poliquin Ultra 3.0 HCL, and Poliquin Betaine HCL the same product?

I think they are digestive enzymes, correct?
How much do you take with each solid protein meal?

The Ultra 3.0 HCL is the new version and it includes other digestive enzymes too.

The dose to take varies depending on the individual. You have to experiment to find out what is the proper dosage for you.

This is the protocol used by Coach Poliquin to establish the proper dose:

There are a variety of medical tests you can get, but here’s a simple test you can do at home (but I suggest you talk to a physician qualified in nutritional medicine before you try it). It requires a bottle of Betaine HCl, at 200 mg potency per capsule. Here’s how it’s performed:

Step 1: Have a high-protein solid meal (no shakes). Let’s say for illustration purposes a 12-ounce steak and vegetables.

Step 2: Eat half the protein, roughly 6 ounces of the steak.

Step 3: Swallow a 200mg capsule of HCl.

Step 4: Eat the other half of the steak and the vegetables.

Step 5: Wait 15 minutes.

Step 6: If your stomach acid is normal, you’ll feel like you just drank a hot cup of tea or feel a burn. If you feel nothing, you need HCl as a supplement.

So what do you do next? At every meal repeat steps 1 to 6, upping the dose one capsule per meal until you feel the burning sensation. So if it takes five meals to get a burning sensation, you need on average four capsules per meal. If you get to seven capsules and you have no burning, stop the test ?? you’re achloridic, meaning you have almost no stomach acid!

Thanks Thib. I read the articl eat Poliquin’s site on this…To decrease the amount of betaine HCL capsules you take when you feel the burning sensation. A little confused though.
Once I finally get down to usuing 1 capsule per solid protein meal, is this when you switch over to the Ultra 3.0 HCL? And continue using the 3.0 HCL for kind of like maintenance dosages?
Thanks

hey i was just looking at nutritiondata.com and eggs have carbs in them. which i didnt know about, i’m sure u were aware of this, but i was just wondering do u still count them?

Coach, when the hell do you find time to hang out with your fiancee?

I’m really looking forward to following your progress. Can you post some current pictures of your physique?

I was reading your chest workout and was pretty surprised with the little amount of rest you need after putting out a set of low incline press and then the max swiss ball pushups. Is your chest completely fried after those 4 sets?

How do you prepare your turkey? Or could you point me in the direction of the recipe? This would be a perfect meal for me because I’m in sales and always in the car. Finding acceptable meals for me with my working conditions and schedule is my biggest challenge.

It’s not Christine, it’s Christiane… and no, my fiance is called Genevieve. Christiane and I are still very good friends though.

1 gram per egg is not the end of the world. 6 eggs per day = 6 grams. Yes I count them.

Hey I was wondering when you eat carbs in your diet (so during a lean mass phase), which are your favorite sources, and how do you typically spread the quantities out throughout the day?
