Thib Gets Ripped

hi coach,

would it be alright to replace your turkey meals with canned wild salmon and a tablespoon of peanut butter? and is there any reason you use Grow! Whey in your morning shake as opposed to low carb Metabolic Drive?

thanks in advance for your reply

No it’s not. Avoid canned foods.

Grow! Whey is absorbed faster than Metabolic Drive. This is an advantage in the morning when you want nutrients to enter the system as fast as possible to break down the nightly fast. But in the grand scheme of things, it will not make a huge difference.

your diet schedule, do you eat the exact thing everyday or does it vary? Especially eggs, do you eat them every morning?

Yes, it doesn’t vary much. I’m a man of habits AND I don’t really enjoy food. So I have no problems eating the same bland food day in and day out.

you dnt like food haha that sucks, if you couldnt eat eggs everyday what would you put in place of that for your breakfast

Canned salmon is F*CKIN grosse, thats all for my 2 cents… Great to see that you are getting shredded again Thibs cant wait to see the progress. I have an upcoming BB comp in 9 weeks and 4 days and 14 hours but I aint counting at all…

I like food … I am just not a gourmet and don’t have to have a lot of different things to feel content and happy. PLUS I see eating for function rather than for taste to be a BIG advantage on a diet: I really have no problems sticking to the diet and rarely have cravings.

As for breakfast… I would go with a whey shake and 1 tablespoon of all-natural peanut butter.

Or chicken/turkey + fish oil

Heck, I’ve even eaten red meat for breakfast.

With my type of dieting every meal is the same:

40-60g of a source of protein (powder, poultry, fish, meat, eggs)

15-20g of a source of good fat (fish oil, olive oil, coconut oil, all-natural peanut butter, canola oil, GLA, etc.)

Minimal carbs

ok sounds good thanks alot, when you go back on total mass gaining phase you should do the same thing, put like a thread up and everything like you did with this

Sure, but it will be pretty simple… same basic diet… but adding 25-30g of carbs per meal (50g post-workout)

Thibs, looking at your last email, have you swayed from the idea that carbs + fat should be seperated. Last i read you weren’t certain on the concept anymore. If so, would be interesting to know what changed your opinion.

Thanks

I spend my whole life training people, changing their body, training myself and reading about training and nutrition.

Because of that my ideas are bound to evolve over time. It’s not the first time, and it’s not the last time that my beliefs will change.

Thats Fair enough!

I’ll cross my fingers and hope for an article along the lines of “things i did then VS things i do now”

Thanks again.

I just found this thread (must be my low carbs). I just wanted to thank you again for the motivation thus far, as well as sharing your goals, diet, and personal issues in your life while at the same time “pre-contest” dieting! I will definitely be following this thread.

When you are on a ketogenic diet, hunger is pretty much blunted. Now, as with all fat loss diet hunger might become a problem, but in most cases hunger comes from fluctuation in blood sugar. Since a ketogenic diet pretty much kills any insulin response there is no such fluctuation.

Right now I feel comfortable with the shakes; I’m just coming off of a mass gaining phase in which my food consumption was very high and to be honest I’m sick of eating all the time. Plus, in case you didn’t notice I’m working something like 70 hours a week and I’m always on the run, the shakes are just more practical.

CT,

I know this is from way back in the thread, but have you noticed a “switching phase” of sorts where your body feels really fatigued until it changes over to using ketones for fuel? If you do, how long does it typically last? I know some people who have this problem and it kills their ability to train. Anything in particular to blunt the hunger cravings/fatigue (besides HOT-ROX)?

To be honest I’ve been using low-carb dieting for so long that I don’t have any problem functioning optimally on low/no carbs. Heck, in fact on some days I did train twice a day.

I did have 1 or 2 days where I was low in energy, but it was more due to my schedule and bad night of sleep.

awesome. Thanks. Do your clients who are used to high carb diets feel the same, or do they have problems for a while?

Some do, but in 90% of the cases it’s psychological. They do not really have a physical need for carbs, they just REALLY WANT to eat some.

I have had a few clients who had energy lows, but that’s more often than not because their fat intake was too low. They want to lose fat so much that they think that by cutting carbs AND fat will allow them to reach their goal faster. When they finally see the light and increase their good fat intake, they pretty much get back their energy levels.

Hey Thib.

Since you aren’t using any Surge do you consume anything during your workouts?

What about pre-workout - are you taking any supplements?

If not, what do you recommend someone take for pre and during their workout?
