Thermic Effect of Food?

i am not looking to cut dont worry…but im curious…when you guys are in your cutting phases i assume most of you eat lots of chicken breast and tuna…when you count calories for the day, do you take into account the thermic effect of food? like 24 oz of tuna is 500 calories - the 100 it takes to digest it…do you guys personally count it as only 400 calories?

I think most people would consider the thermic effect of food part of their BMR and include it in their daily calorie expenditure separately.

bump…more peoples opinions please

I’d consider it overanalyzing although it is one of the best reasons to eat protein while cutting down.

Let the scale and body comp let you know whether you should adjust the calories.

I’ve cut down successfully a few times before and have never counted my calories with the TEF in mind. I think thats just over thinking things. Just count calories as they are before digestion.

I don’t see why it would be important. It’s like BF testing, the number you get out isn’t as important as whether or not it’s going up or down by the same measurement and how you look as a result.

No. I did (and still do quite accurately) base my calorie requirements on massive eating, which incorporates thermic effect of food.

And why are you concerned about a cutting phase? hmmm Sounds to me like you’re still playing with the idea.

Crap, I didn’t even know about cutting until I was 18

im not playing with the idea. i was just curious about TEF
