Yes, remember the greater purpose of working out is to put your body under a load that forces it to adapt. Your body has to think it NEEDS to change in order to survive your particular day-to-day life. The purpose of strength training is NOT to hit x reps at y weight. THAT is just the means by which you force adaptation. In other words:

**SET/REP SCHEME is just the TOOL by which you accomplish the goal of adaptation. It is not the end goal itself!

Example: if your workout calls for 200x5 on something as your top set, it means that that one set of 5 should be incredibly difficult - difficult enough that your body says HOLY SHIT THAT WAS HARD and you really aren’t sure if you could repeat that set if you tried. If you pick a weight low enough that it will allow you to attempt 3 sets of 5 in case of mistakes… you aren’t picking a high enough weight to accomplish the goal of adaptatione.

Same thing if your program calls for 3x5 or whatever. If you think you won’t be happy with a couple sets so you pick a weight low enough that you can do 5 sets of 5 if needed… your weight was not high enough to force adaptation. Those 3 sets of 5 are supposed to be so hard that a fourth set of 5 is impossible or damn close to impossible.

I really doubt anyone who is very strong has had a top set with perfect form on every rep in many years. To get that strong you have to lift a weight so heavy that PERFECT form is impossible.[/quote]

SO HELLO AND A FEW UPDATES:

One day last week I decided I was no longer a powerlifter because it was making me miserable. Incidetly, that also happened to be the day where we had to announce a “fun fact” about ourself to all our newly hired employees at work.
FUn fact: “Uhh, I have a kid, he’s six, yeah…”
Not:
“OMG ME POWERLIFTER SO UNIQUE LOVES IT SO MUCH YUHH”
Very heart wrenching for me to be so indentity-less…
Anyway, it only lasted a day, and I got right back at it. However, I was hoping that me “punishing” myself with giving up powerlifting was enough to scare me into quitting all this mental obseessing/panic attacks over imperfect reps etc…
I WAS WRONG.
One day back and I was all like OMG THINGS WERE WRONG AHHHhHHHhH!
Thankfully, one morning I woke up and was like “I don’t want to fucking squat everyday. My bench is turning to shit. Something needs to change”.
So I started 5/3/1 for the millionth time in my life.

But I didn’t post because I wanted to wait and see if I could stick to something for a few months until I announced an official “plan”. I wrote in my little paper journal, but it’s really not the same.

Nothing is bothering my brain at all, so my anxiety is down like 86%

My mommy was also doing some internet googling and thought that I may have some thyroid issues due to some iodine defiency. Mainly because I am tired all the time/anxious all the time/fat even though I workout like crazy and eat really healthfully/have the most fucked up periods ever/have wonky hurty boobs etcetc…

So I got this like iodine supplement that helps with thyroid function and I cannot even begin to describe how much better I feel. Like I actually have energy and my boobs stopped hurting and maybe that’s why I feel so much stronger at the gym? I dunno? Those rep maxes far exceeded my expectations. My brain feels a lot less cloudy as well.
We’ll see how things go from here, but I am optimisitic!

Anyway, that is all to report for now, which is probably too much, LOL.

I found batman chucks online ! ! !!! I am figuring out some way to include them into my monthly budget. I am sure they could fall under my groceries category…
