Good work in here, DZ, that sucks about your shoulder still hurting. If its any consolation, I think you have some of the most interesting workouts on here.

good girl. I never surgery level trouble with my shoulders, but I really messed them up several years ago doing decline presses. I discovered LYTP and benching with a narrow grip, and I have been pretty much fine ever since.
You are kicking some major ass. I retired my sled a couple months ago, but with winter coming, I am rethinking this…[/quote]
You all are probably right, and I guess I’m just paranoid right now. I REALLY don’t need any more injuries, both financially and physically. I still have a fair amount of pain nearly constantly, and can’t raise my right arm over my head.
MJ, that sled kicks ass! That was your idea wasn’t it? I got that over at the build your home made equipment thread. This is the third incarnation of the draggy sled and I’m diggin’ the hell out of this thing. In fact, I’m heading that way now.

All I can do is say to be careful, follow your rehab and be careful.
I got pain free, then quit training for almost six months, and now I’m back to working out to get back to the pain free status.
Doc Powerclean, when he was around, had some good advice too. Some OTC (over the counter) pain meds work much better than others as anti-inflammatory meds and help recovery – cheap, effective as anything else and help with the pain as well.

You have pain even when not using your shoulder? And you can’t lift your arm over your head? Oh my. I guess I’m very lucky. Are you still seeing your surgeon? Would it warrant a follow-up MRI?
Trust your body. There’s no reason to rush into anything. If certain lifts hurt your shoulder in the wrong way, DON’T DO THEM. I wouldn’t worry the slightest bit about being paranoid. You and I both know how much cuff tears suck.
Dips are outrageously hard and painful for people who have undergone rotator cuff surgery, Elaikases, as are millie presses. I can’t really do either of these yet.

I can’t do bench presses, though I can do body weight push ups. They hurt, but they make things better over all (as do planks, where you just hold the position without movement). Overhead/military presses turned into a no-go. As you can see from my work-outs, I ended up dropping every push exercise out of them.
Different injuries to different parts of the cuff have their own issues (just had to sit through another doctor’s deposition on an injured rotary cuff case – I’ve two of those going on at work right now) since my last comment. Realized that listening to your body is more important than a lot of other things, given the differences and the “one size fits all” autopilot many therapists end up on.
I’m starting to get a feel for what works with my issues, but also starting to realize that it may not work at all for someone else’s.
My surgeon explained to me that unlike many surgeries, every rotator cuff repair is different. Every rehab is different. Every result is different. Shoulders are [supposedly] the most complicated joint in the body. So it’s really true that everyone’s experience is different.
Deposition, Elaikases? Are you an attorney?

Yea, that’s probably true, and with the laundry list of things he repaired it may take some time for the pain to subside.
My schedule is changing again somewhat, going to challenge my resolve to drag three times a week. I’ve just inherited the largest dept. in my plant. 68 people now report directly to me, talk about challenging.
Today
Tire Sled
3/4 mile drag W/45lb
1 set 40 steps 150lb stone
1 set 100 steps Cinder block farmers
Picked up the 150 and made it about 10 steps and dropped it
1 set 50 steps 120lb stone
1 set 100 steps “Cindys”
1 set 50 steps 120lb stone
1 set 100 steps “Cindys”

Wow! - that should keep you out of the meat lockers for a while. Hopefully it came with a pay raise
Wow…34 hours over the last three days. This schedule may last for several months.
Only have time for a good drag this morning. Took the tire to the ball fields, kinda rainy and cool outside.
Didn’t count on there being 100’s of kids and parents there playing soccer. Don’t need the weird looks this morning, put my hoodie up and keep the legs pumping. I did look up to see a parent going to a child who was standing near the trail, grabbed their hand and walked them back to the crowd as I passed. That was pretty amusing.
1 mile drag W/35 plate
If I saw you training, I would approach and say “Wow, that’s awesome!” I occasionally approach people in my gym and compliment them if they squat or DL really nice. I get kinda excited about that 'cause it’s so rare.
OMG, you part of evil management! Sorry, union man in me coming out. A mile dragging anything is rough. Growl at the on lookers next time.

I have actually had a couple of those. One guy wanted to know if I had patented the tire sled design, I just told him it’s not my idea, that I thought it had been around for a while.

Yea, I’m a front line supervisor, have been for 16 years. But my folks tell me I’m the best supervisor they’ve had.
Harry, this tire dragging is one of the hardest things I’ve found in years. You can make it what you want it to be, and I keep my head down with the arms and legs pumping. I’m really gassed when I’m finished. The effects I feel on my quads, glutes, hip flexors, hams, and traps, leave me certain I’ve had a great workout even if I do nothing else when I get home.
Boss took pity on my today, let me off after a mere 10 hour shift. So…what shall we do today, how 'bout we start with a tire drag around the block.
3/4 mile, or so, tire drag W/ 35 plate
Pulled into the driveway and picked up the cinder blocks
3 sets, 100 steps cinder block farmers
BB rows
1x8x135
3x6x175
2 sets each biceps and triceps
Abs
I almost had myself talked out of working out this evening. Was counting on getting out of work in a reasonable amount of time given it’s Friday and all, but nooooo. Another freakin’ 12 hour shift. But I was so looking forward to a great workout after reading the new article on strong man training. It was interesting to see how much of the things mentioned I’m already doing. Last weekend I drilled some new holes in my belt, it’s not fitting well 15lbs lighter. Keeping the weight off so far, still about 186-188.
So Today…
Deads
8x135
5x225
3x295
1x345
1x365
1x345
3x315
3x295
3x275
Cinder Block Shrugs
1x15 W/60 sec static hold
1x15 W/30 sec static hold
1x15 W/ 60 sec static hold
2 sets 50 steps, 120 lb stone
Good news on the weight and that looks like a lot of volume on the deads
Great job powering through the training with the tough job schedule.
Thanks Guys!
Chilly, mid 40’s this morning, but fall colors still very beautiful. Took the tire sled to the athletic fields that were again mobbed with people and kids playing soccer. Can still feel the fatigue of last nights workout making for an even tougher drag.
1 mile around the track W/35 plate
Got in a workout today while outside preparing for this evenings horde of little ghouls.
Tire flipping
6 sets of 10 flips
Cinder block Farmers
2 sets - 100 steps
Can’t keep a good man down!!! Good to see you back at it.
Daddyzombie…Not sure if I asked, but where are you located in Mi? I’m in the Metro Detoilet Area.
Your training always looks like so much fun, great work.
