So I want to know in your opinion who are the most dominate athletes now or in their own era?
To get the Ball rolling…
Tiger Woods - is there any question
Kobe Bryant - Jordan all time
Josh Beckett - Nolan Ryan in his day
Mariusz Pudzianowski - The man is a freak!!
IMO Peyton Manning

No disrespect meant on the hijack, but how do incorrectly spell Kobe, Beckett, and Peyton, but spell Mariusz Pudzianowski right?
Just curious.
Anyways, for the list: Agree on Tiger, agree on Kobe (but a case for LeBron can be made), and for a short list I would add Muhammad Ali, Fedor Emelianenko, Sidney Crosby, Roger Federer, Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, George Mikan, Jesse Owens, Martina Navratilova, the list goes on and on…

LoL I am the worlds worlds speller and I was looking at the vids of Pudzianowski and just copy and pasted. I hubely your forgiveness. That and I dont have word on the computer at work, but that is pretty funny though…in a sad way. I cant help but laugh at myself
I’ll preface what I’m about to say with that I’ve been playing golf a bit lately, and I suck ass. So, to know what Woods does against top flight competition is unbelieveably impressive. With that, you can’t call Woods a dominant athlete. Golf is a game. A game where they make people be quiet while you set up and take your swing. He’s a dominant golfer, not a dominant athlete. He doesn’t run, jump or have to evade defenders in getting his shot off. His only defenders are the elements and the course on which he plays, and he practices on the courses so much he eliminates that aspect. Once again, golf is a game, not an athletic event.
With that out of the way, Kobe Bryant is the most dominant athlete today.
I’ll cover few track and field throwers, since I’m a thrower
Jan Zelezny-greatest javelin thrower ever no one comes close in his event, holds world record by a lot.
Virgilijus Alekna-Best discus thrower ever has greatest average and most medals, look for him to get his third gold Olympic medal in a row this year.
Randy Barnes- Sure got caught for being user, but still most pro athletes do, he was the most dominant shot putter ever no one is really close right now also holds world record.
Yuriy Sedykh-Greatest hammer thrower ever, highest average best technician, also holds world record.
Also no disrespect but I don’t think Mariusz Pudzianowski is the most dominant strongman, he just wins in ‘fast’ events like WSM. He loses all the time in the ‘real’ test of strength at the arnold every time to Zydrunas savickas who has won it SIX times in a row and holds several world records he is much more dominant in strongman.
undefeated in onlympic greco-roman wrestling for 10 years… didnt lose a single point. finally lost when someone avoided him like the plague till he gassed, american rulon gardner i think his name was

also competetion in golf is not that great, mostly old white guys I would not call them ‘genetically gifted’ I mean sure mostly skill but so is tennis and those guys are very agile, fast, tall ext. If more kids growing up instead of playing baseball, football, basketball did golf tiger would not seem all that great.

i agree, WSM really shouldn’t be able to call itself that anymore. IFSA and competitions like the Arnold seem to be a much better representation of strongman.
now of course, savickas would most likely lose to Pudzianowski at WSM, and Pudzianowski to savickas at the Arnold… but WSM events arn’t really about strength anymore. the difference between WSM and IFSA seems to be that in WSM, a log press event will involve pressing a 275lb log for reps, while in IFSA a log press event will be who can press the heaviest log. Or, in WSM, you run around carrying 250lb barrels or dragging around some heavy chain, and at the Arnold you have to farmers walk a 850lb implement up a 30 degree incline. it seems clear to me which competition is really about strength.

Well, you should look up the definiton of the word athlete and you will realize Tiger is one of them.
I am a pretty good golfer and have deen playing for a while. Good luck with your game. It can be seriously hard sometimes at any level. Good players probably get the most frustrated due to levels of expectation.
Just don’t quit because once you do get good it is the most awesome thing. Evryone in the corp. business world plays golf and I just want to kick there asses on the course. Thread jack over.

How did he avoid him like the plague? It’s not like he was running around the mat in circles. The wrestlers have a hold of each other the whole match. Or maybe I just don’t know enough about wrestling.
Even though cycling is an endurance sport that most of us here at T-Nation dont really care about, Lance Armstrong was an absolute monster when it came to winning the tour.
They’ve passed on but Wilt Chamberlin and Reggie White dominated their sports big time when they were in their prime.
Lawrence Taylor, Jerry Rice, Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Walter Payton and Barry Sanders also come to mind. (for football)
Lebron James (despite his current 2 game slump vs Celtics)is a dominant athlete as is Kobe and Dwight Howard. (for hoops). I think Greg Oden (Portland trailblazers) could be dominant in a few years (he has all the physical tools and a mean streak).
Tiger is dominates but how athletic is he really??? If you say Tiger is a dominant athlete, you should include Earl Anthony(former pro bowler) as well.
