The Wind

Dude, I like some of his posts too, but HE’S NOT DEAD and he never said he was no longer posting, so it sounds extremely bizarre when you speak of him in the past tense.

Prof X,

I know you are reading all of this nonsense. I hope you are enjoying yourself.

OK, some
General Thoughts: the Important Stuff

Now, in regards to why, exactly, the Professor decided to leave…was it really that big of a shock to a lot of you that he decided to bounce? Did it come out of left field, the clear blue sky, or some other unforeseeable place? The guy really made no secret of the fact that he didn’t like where this site is heading - specifically, the people it is choosing to cater to, the image it is now trying to present - all at the expense of those who, in his mind, at least, made this place what it was in the first place.

Was that the sole factor? Maybe, maybe not. I didn’t know the guy, and the point of this isn’t to figure out why he left so that we can get him back; the point of this is to figure out why he left in order to keep the other veterans and outspoken members from jumping ship. Because, like it or not, they make this site what it is.

I’m not going to suggest that he’s some kind of martyr, leaving in protest to hopefully shock the “Powers That Be” back into the mindset they had when they first started this site. He most likely just decided he didn’t really enjoy it here enough to warrant posting so damn much.

I just think that “some people” around here should take a little more notice of this, not because the Professor was that damn special, but because I feel that maybe it IS a sign of where this site is going, and it wouldn’t be a stretch to assume most of the other veterans here share his disgust with the current rising of “estrogen.net”.

And you all can spare me the “favorite bar” analogy with the yuppies and the friendly bartender and the smoky old corner and whatever. You can’t sprinkle sugar on shit, call it candy, and expect me to swallow it.

At least, not without a little discussion, first.

In the end, though, isn’t that what matters?

Seriously though, it’s because of him that I know bulking is my friend and the loss of 6-pack abs isn’t the end of the world. He made us laugh and now he’s making us cry. This is a fucking T-Funeral and you all know it.

Peace

I thought that too…[/quote]

It could go either way, I think. I’ll admit I found the post to be a little bit cryptic, and I’m assuming he meant he was leaving the site, just because I can’t figure out why the hell he would start a thread (which obviously had a lot of thought put into it) just to inform us that he was quitting his job.

I mean…how is that any of our business? He’s a practical guy, and I don’t think he would flatter himself into believing we would actually care about his career change.

Then again, I don’t feel like wasting my time discussing the meaning of his post, as I’m sure it will become obvious sooner or later.

I am honestly surprised he stuck around for so long. I thought he would have left a long time ago.

While I still think Biotest is an industry leader, and that there are still some good articles, look at where the site is heading.

Here is the evolution in three clear phases:

  1. We’re hardcore. Here is what we’re about. We are unapologetically high testosterone, we are interested in steroids (even if we don’t take them). We like lifting heavy shit, looking big, and can’t stand the 'N Sync wannabes populating our guys. If you don’t like what we stand for, we don’t care. In fact, we started this site to serve as a refuge for people who want to avoid people like you. Go heavy or go home.

  2. Our goal is to help anyone who comes to the site looking for help. Even if your goals are “different” than ours. If you think weighing 150 pounds with a six pack is ribbed, welcome aboard.

  3. Our goal is to protect our new audience from your jerks who still think we’re living in phase 1!

If you want proof, look no farther than the supplement write-ups. Seriously, go back in the archives and read the articles about supplements. For the most part, these write-ups were devoid of buzz words. Now, that’s about all we get. Anyone who remembers “Pee Wee” might wonder how many “nut sacks” some recent ad copy would receive.

Now, it has been written that “sciency” write-ups were unappealing to readers. To the newer readers, maybe. But to the older readers, no way. Again, as the audience has changed, so has the writing.

The early edition of the mag had an (explicit) interview with a female porn star and her husband. Which, by the way, was very interesting! Now a tame interview with a forum member who is also swinger won’t see the light of day. There is no question that that same interview would have aired in the “old days”.

There are no consumer reports articles - unless it’s to go after a competitor. When I noted the new industry practice of undisclosed affiliate agreements, no one seemed to care. Yet these types of kickbacks (at least when supplements were concerned) were attacked in the old days.

Anyhow, I could write an entire article on this, but those three examples should show that things clearly have changed. It’s no longer, “This is who we are. Deal with it.” It’s now: “Let’s not offend anyone. Let’s make the tent bigger. Let’s get rid of the big smelly guys.”

All things in life change. This was a bad ass site for many years. The only surprise is that it took so long for the site to change.

ahhh DAMNIT!

You will be missed. If nothing else, you were consistent and honest, and that counts for a LOT.

Is the operative word little discussion? Will a candid discussion occur? Or will only weaker points be addressed and refuted? Will the strongest arguments in support of a sea change be allowed to be presented?

It comes as no surprise to me that X made this decision shortly after a thread entitled “Fat Chicks” was given five stars.

I was thinking about this too. Maybe X is tired of all the BS “How to get a Brad Pitt body” threads, and the 150 lb. 16 year olds in the “rate my physique” section.

Goodbye Prof you have been here a looong time and your posts years back were full of enthusiastic help for people who sounded interested but lately, lots of nitwit people seem to have appeared and a lot of your posts sound more angry and annoyed and probably, justifiable.

Cut up and compete already

good luck whatever you do

My suggestion: Médecins Sans Frontières

It will change your life

goodbye and good luck

Wait…i thought he was a dentist…not an air force person. Is he both?

He is an oral surgeon in the air force.

Good luck X. We will miss you, you big mass of non-functional muscle.

CL, while I’d like to debate each of your points, I’ll just respond to the above 3 right now.

In 1995, we estimated that there were about 12 million lifters in the hard core market.

Now, we estimate that there are about 5 million lifters in the hard core market.

If we don’t convert some newbies, it won’t be long before we’re shouting into an empty cave.

All we ask is that you try to mentor some of the new guys. Sure, a lot of them just want abs or some such other bullshit, but if they hang around long enough, get enough advice, they’re probably going to end up seeing it our way.

I follow baseball. When teams sign grizzled old veterans, it’s not just for their skillls but the fact they mentor the younger players. They have wisdom to bestow. They want to give back to their sport.

Similarly, that’s what I’d like to see our veterans do–give back to their sport.

Go ahead and be tough with them, but don’t toss them out on their skinny behinds.

Gayest thread ever…
