I am honestly surprised he stuck around for so long. I thought he would have left a long time ago.
While I still think Biotest is an industry leader, and that there are still some good articles, look at where the site is heading.
Here is the evolution in three clear phases:
-
We’re hardcore. Here is what we’re about. We are unapologetically high testosterone, we are interested in steroids (even if we don’t take them). We like lifting heavy shit, looking big, and can’t stand the 'N Sync wannabes populating our guys. If you don’t like what we stand for, we don’t care. In fact, we started this site to serve as a refuge for people who want to avoid people like you. Go heavy or go home.
-
Our goal is to help anyone who comes to the site looking for help. Even if your goals are “different” than ours. If you think weighing 150 pounds with a six pack is ribbed, welcome aboard.
-
Our goal is to protect our new audience from your jerks who still think we’re living in phase 1!
If you want proof, look no farther than the supplement write-ups. Seriously, go back in the archives and read the articles about supplements. For the most part, these write-ups were devoid of buzz words. Now, that’s about all we get. Anyone who remembers “Pee Wee” might wonder how many “nut sacks” some recent ad copy would receive.
Now, it has been written that “sciency” write-ups were unappealing to readers. To the newer readers, maybe. But to the older readers, no way. Again, as the audience has changed, so has the writing.
The early edition of the mag had an (explicit) interview with a female porn star and her husband. Which, by the way, was very interesting! Now a tame interview with a forum member who is also swinger won’t see the light of day. There is no question that that same interview would have aired in the “old days”.
There are no consumer reports articles - unless it’s to go after a competitor. When I noted the new industry practice of undisclosed affiliate agreements, no one seemed to care. Yet these types of kickbacks (at least when supplements were concerned) were attacked in the old days.
Anyhow, I could write an entire article on this, but those three examples should show that things clearly have changed. It’s no longer, “This is who we are. Deal with it.” It’s now: “Let’s not offend anyone. Let’s make the tent bigger. Let’s get rid of the big smelly guys.”
All things in life change. This was a bad ass site for many years. The only surprise is that it took so long for the site to change.
