The Watchmen Discussion Thread

People shouldn’t underestimate the graphic novel as a form of literature.

Fo sho. I think it’s easier for people who have their noses in the air to graphic novels that are the limited ones. It’s only a different form of literature.

Yes, they should

If you research the lyrics to it, it’ll make a lot more sense. All the music was picked by Snyder as he was drawing the story boards, and I thought it all fit really well.

And again, with the guy in prison, they change it to 15 years in the movie when its 20 in the book. Why? What possible point did that serve except to alter the script?

Just thinking about it, I believe they said Rors was 35 when they arrested him. If Big Figure had been put away by him 20 yrs ago, Rors would have been 15, no? I’m not sure if all that adds up in the book or not, just thinkin out loud.

SPOILERS

I was kind of disappointed that they left out the knot-tops killing Hollis Mason. Wanted to see the old dude kick a little ass before dying.

The part when the cops were busting down the door to get to Rors and Nite Owl took me as important in the book. As if a metaphor for impending doom, “WE GOTTA GO, NOW!” kinda thing, and it kind of forced them to work together despite their disagreements.

Typo - It was actually Rambone 2

I liked it. But the problem was, there was a group of idiots in the row behind us who just wouldn’t fucking stop talking throughout the fucking movie! I am talking about full blown conversations, and not even whispering, but using squeaky annoying voices. I was so close to turning around and telling them to SHUT THE FUCK UP, but I didn’t want to make a scene. It ruined it for me because I couldn’t hear the dialogue…and every lull in their conversation had me anticipating when they were going to start up again. Talk about inconsiderate. It sounded like five people, but when the movie actually ended, it was only two girls and a guy. I was seriously close to giving him a surprise punch and beating his ass as he was walking down the stairs.
I had this problem with the 3rd time I went to see the Dark Knight.

I actually turned around and said “How about a nice cup of shut the fuck up?” and that fixed that problem.

Mate as an aussie usher I’m telling you come and grab one of us if you don’t want to have a go at them yourself.

We are just standing around bored and getting to yell/boot out some twits makes our day. We LOVE that shit.

If you go to a cinema where people get more than two warnings, find another cinema mate because that’s crap.

I’m glad enough people appreciated it enough to place it on this list.

The song is a Cold War song. It fits just fine in the movie.

What a tool, you are telling us you cant possibly find anything redeeming about a book because it uses pictures? Please pull your head out of your ass.

I saw it this afternoon. It was long, but pretty entertaining. I haven’t read the comics books, but I still enjoyed the movie.

I won’t spoil anything, but I honestly don’t think there is anything to spoil. Except one part, even I was like “wow man” when you find out.

That Silk Specter is fucking hawt. I got a boner watching certain scenes with her. She has great legs. I can’t stand it, I wish I had a girlfriend that fucking fine.

That Rorshac is a bad ass. He was really cool.

I wonder how that Dr. Manhattan trains?

Anyway, it was long and I had to pee at the 2nd hour, but I didn’t want to miss anything so I toughed it out. Good movie. Even if you didn’t read the comic books (like me) you will still enjoy it.

I hope that me not reading the comics doesn’t make me some sort of asshole. I know how fanboys can get.
you didnt miss much if you didnt read the comic the movie was really true to them
Kazmoraz wrote:
I found the film to be extremely faithful to the books. Almost to a fault. Some parts felt more like a collection of short films because they would leave some characters for an extended period to focus on just one, much like the original comics did.

After the opening credit sequence, we get pretty much a blow-by-blow of the book.

Rorschach is so well played by Jackie Earle Haley that it could be about as spot-on as anything could be.

The film is also much more graphic than I figured it would be. Lots of gore, blood and a pretty revealing sex scene. (Also, plenty of blue full frontal.)

POTENTIAL SPOILERS

 • Gone is the entire Black Freighter story, as well as the young boy and magazine shack worker wraparounds for the comic-within-a-comic.

 • The end is changed, but not significantly so that it should upset anyone, I wouldn’t think. It makes sense and allows them to completely ignore the “island” subplot.

 • Two minor quibbles. 1) The weird selection of some soundtrack choices and 2) Veidt being so small and scrawny. Mathew Goode is a very slight man, and while it doesn’t take much from his character, they do show the Veidt Method ads from time to time and in the book, that was THE body-building program!

He was supposed to be the smartest man on the planet and I always figure him as being an Adonis, as well.
I agree with a lot of your points here its funny you mentioned the selection of the soundtrack.,I found there selection to be kinda funny for example **SPOILER ALERT when you see the assasin that is suppose to kill Veidt the music playing in the lobby is everybody wants to rule the world"

So whats the difference between a comic BOOK and a book…and what kind of book should we read to make it kinda legit…you mean like a TIME LIFE BOOK
