I had a teacher in middle school (back when I lived in the US) whose husband was the bassist of a mellodeath band (melodic death metal). We’d talk about iron maiden and whatnot in class! This was my favourite teacher
Foam is cool, very… interesting, alternative is exactly how I’d describe it. Reminds me of Korn

Is the redefined alluding to the Australin fires?
A fair bit of this stuff makes me think of pop punk. One winter I was listening to a particular campus station and took in a lot of pop punk, and then decided I can’t listen to it anymore.
As far as metal by itself goes, i was just reminiscing the other day about having seen Exciter open up for Motorhead waaaay back when. I didn’t realize when I bought the ticket that i was too young for the venue. When I got there, the door person believed I would behave maturely and stay away from the bar, so I got in.
the second track, ‘Violence and force’, is their signature tune. I apologize if you think the album cover doesn’t cut it with today’s sensitivities.

Then there’s the black metal bands/bands that openly and blatantly showcase Nazi symbolism
Even mainstream bands like Slayer, Metallica etc have flirted with Nazi symbolism. Metal tends to be obsessed with all that is evil, taboo. I can’t think of a better way to convey evil incarnate.
In terms of tongue in cheek remarks/political commentary I don’t particularly mind
Blatant racism (so… I have a problem with black metal, though I still listen to it), homophobia and religious discrimination gets on my nerves. That being said I can take a joke… Dark/satirical humour is my niche
As a Jew myself I’ve made some incredibly inappropriate, insensitive comments with the intention of making people laugh (tongue in cheek) pertaining to Judaism in general… And Christianity… Islam… Etc.
Legitimate white supremacy, hatred against Jews, Muslims, Christians on the sole basis of religion… Hatred/discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation gets me worked up.
I don’t consider jokes to be a form of preaching hate (some would disagree with me). I believe if the receiving party of the joke is comfortable with that type of humour, no harm done.

Over the last several years I have become acquainted with a number of gays and lesbians, the crowd i was in was distinctly counter culture/progressive. I am myself straight.

I’ve listened to exciter before, which tunes? Foam was pretty cool, wasn’t a fan of buzzkill (no offence, just not my taste)

I also know quite a few who are gay, bisexual etc. I’ve never had a problem with it… I find the argument “gay people will make our children gay… What about the kids when they see homosexual activity etc” to be an ignorant, unscientific body of thought. Homosexuality isn’t a choice, one isn’t going to “turn gay” from seeing who guys kiss, hold hands etc. There is no scientific data to back such an assumption. Furthermore, we see PDA from straight couples all the time, supposedly there’s a difference?
I have no problem with those who harbour homophobic and/or outdated ideology like this… But don’t preach it to others. No one is “forcing” you to accept homosexuality, but there is a general consensus within secular, developed nations stating discrimination on the sole basis of something one has no control over, doesn’t harm anyone else etc is wrong.
I’m mentioning this because I’ve been told by some (admittedly all older, conservatives) that society is regressing due to “forced acceptance” of homosexuality… Give me a fucking break, the primary basis of homosexual persecution to begin with (in my opinion) is based upon religious beliefs/ideology.
I know many gay people, they don’t harm anyone. Unless we are talking about having sex with those who can’t consent, let people be pertaining to partner choice.
