The Video Game Thread

I bought a PS4 and so far all I’m doing with it is using it to play Skyrim and eventually Oblivion when I get PlaystationNow.

I, apparently, am unwilling to embrace the future.

On that note, I got Elder Scrolls Morrowind for $4.40 off of Grand Old Games a few days ago, and my murder-hobo Orc is doing well. I found out you can murder everyone in the starting town, get a TON of gold, some awesome heavy armor and weapons, and the only penalty is 27 days of hard labor and some skill penalties. Totally worth it.

You don’t have a computer? Does Skyrim still have those awful loading on console? This is like the game I feel I’ll always come back at some point, like the sluttiest of exes

I have a laptop from 2015.

Skyrim loads quickly on the PS4. Better than what I had on the 360 at least.

I bought it for my brother went it came out, it was horrible. I mean there were loadings even when you opened the fucking menu. Must have been fixed!

I got it on release day in 2011 on the 360 and didn’t have that experience. Just longer loads between loading the game and accessing new areas.

But I grew up playing Resident Evil on the Playstation, where you had to load going up and down stairs, so nothing phases me, haha.

Skyrim is way more polished but Morrowind was probably the most fun for me. You could really go over the top with your character. I stole everything that I could and traveled through the world by jumping continuously until I had like a 20 foot vertical.

Good stuff.

I really appreciated how open world sandbox games were truly open world. It may sound psychotic, but I appreciate when a game will just let you kill anyone and suffer the consequences to the story/plot. You can kill just about anyone in the first 2 Fallouts, the original Baldur’s Gate, Morrowind, etc. Modern games have invincible characters because they didn’t want to bother coming up with something if you backed yourself into a corner.

Coming from a DnD background, it’s the difference between a DM that is willing to just the players do whatever vs one that already has the plot decided and won’t let the players deviate.

You might like Red Dead Redemption 2. You can really be an awful bastard but the game “saves” you by replacing the people you slaughter with functional equivalent characters. The game definitely keeps the plots on the rails.

Otherwise you can go everywhere and kill almost everything in just about any way you can imagine. I love wiping out every California Condor I see and other critically endangered animals.

I haven’t tried killing my family yet. I’ll have to see how that works. I doubt it does.

I always think I’ll like GTA styled games, but I’m so terrible at video games that I get too frustrated over failing the missions and just end up seeing how bad I can mess up the ragdoll physics before hanging it all up.

Probably the reason I’m so big into RPGs. I don’t have to get better: I just have to play more!

I play the new Age of Empires 2 HD definite edition. Which is a remake + an expansion to the original Age of Empires 2. I usually play with a few mates and it is really fun. I am more into strategy games (Warcraft, StarCraft, Command and Conquer, the Settlers, Anno, Total War games and the like).

Before that I played Fallout 4, which I enjoyed. I occasionally play counterstrike with a few mates but they’re all pretty advanced and I am super slow and suck at the game, haha.

Also to alltime favorites I would have to add the Bioshock saga. The last game ‘Bioshock Infinite’ had such an amazing story and screenplay that it felt more like a fascinating movie and I played it through in one sitting. Then several other times because you can’t possibly fathom everything about it if you only play it once.

Fucking hell

Try owning a Spectrum 48k

You’d boot up a game at bedtime, wake up, go to school, get back and the fucker would still be on a loading screen🤦‍♂️

Am I the only one that still plays GTA V online?

Admittedly I only play for a for about an hour maybe 2-3 times per week, but I find its a nice way to relax at the end of the week or on the weekend when I am trying no to think about eating more food.

I second this, I grew up a starcraft kid. Brood war is the tits, my friend & I were European ladder champions at the time. I still occasionally play games but sc2 doesn’t do it for me… waiting for Warcraft remake.

I downloaded the Galactic Civil War mod for the 2007 game Star Wars: Empire at War.

It’s basically a remake of the game that updates the graphics and cuts out ground combat. Instead you get a cool-as-fuck space combat game with a ton of new units that are totally rebalanced.

Great mod to check out if you enjoyed the original game.

I played Zelda Link’s Awakening for like 10 hours over the holiday and my 4-year-old deleted the save…

I decided to give The Witcher 3 another shot after watching the Netflix series. I still don’t love the controls, but I’m enjoying it this time.

Dont get much time to play games anymore :frowning: so now if i get 5 minutes or we have a family games night we play either

Mortal Kombat (The new one) or Crash team racing

Would love to get my hands on the witcher 3 , new call of duty or elder scrolls online but just dont have the time to give . . .

I do however spend alot of time playing mobile games on my 2hr commute to/from work. Alot of quick mind games e.g. Soduku , Futushiki, Block games etc.

But put alot of hours into Clash Royal. Really good game to play on the go. Almost like an advance game of rock paper scissors , but with cards. Easy to pick up, very technical to master.

Just downloaded a game called Raid over the xmas holidays. Reminds me of a diablo/pokemon mix. Cant really comment how good it is yet as only played about 25 mins of it.

There’s a Switch for that…

Anyone played GreedFall? It looks pretty good and what some of you guys would play. I’m downloading it now (it’s on sale for $30)

Good call, picked up a switch when I was out of town working overtime. Doesn’t get the hours I had hoped, but still overall would invest again.

After getting a wild hair and downloading Starcraft (the original of course) the other day, I have discovered something.

I am bad at Starcraft.

I have even used cheats, and it just makes me slightly less bad. And I don’t dare play against another human.
