Here’s a free idea for the T-Nation marketing department geniuses. If anyone agrees with my idea or would like to post your thoughts/modifications, feel free to add to this thread.
The idea:
Offer a bundle package of everything Biotest offers that will cover their end of what is needed for the V-diet. 7 tubs of Metabolic Drive, 2 tubs of Surge, 1 bottle of HOT-ROX, 3 bottles of Flameout, and 1 bottle of TRIBEX (or whatever proportions you feel are necessary).
Offer this package at a X% discount. I know what you’re thinking Biotest. We can’t offer a X% discount because OUR margins are already too low! well consider this: How much business have you lost due to people underestimating the amount of protein they will need for the V-diet and having to go to a local or another source because they need some right away or don’t want to pay your <$150 shipping costs?
I know I’m guilty of this… Anyone else? Not to mention, those who feel compelled to use some Biotest and some Brand-X will be more likely to purchase all Biotest (the bundle) if you were to offer it at a discount.
Are you worried about sticker-shock? Don’t be, T-Nation readers realize that this diet, even with all the supplements, etc… Is still about the same price, if not cheaper, than living a normal life for those 28 days. We’re big boys, we won’t freak out over the summation at the price…
Going forward, as the V-diet gains wings as a result of word-of-mouth and Chris Shugart’s book, there might even be an advantage to using cheaper packaging materials or putting the protein powder in a 10 lb cardboard bag, as your volume of sales increases. I’ll leave that up to y’all.
I weigh 240, you may weigh 200, she weighs 150, he weighs 175, his mom weighs 185. We all want to do the diet and a package who is the package going to fit.
If the make it an average well still the Majority get screwed say they pick 180 or 200 well any one above that has to purchase more and any one below is buying stuff they dont need.
Let’s be real, here. There are only two things you could possibly want out of this.
A discount.
Someone else to figure out how much of the products you need.
I don’t think you’re going to get the discount. I do think it would be an EXCELLENT idea to have a “VDIET Calculator.” You could plug in your weight, percent bodyfat, sex, etc, and the calculator could tell you how much you need for the 28 days, and then add it to your cart for you when you accept the amount.

Good call.

I don’t understand why people want a “special discounted bundle package”. If price is an issue then maybe one shouldn’t diet more than once every couple years.

I haven’t seen any formulas for the V-diet that take into account anything other than weight. Did I miss something?
Anyway, the formula is pretty simple: take your bodyweight in pounds, multiply by .045, and round that up to the nearest whole number. That’s how many tubs of protein you need for the by-the-book, one solid meal a week version of the diet.
If you’ve got Excel, type your bodyweight into cell A1 and put =CEILING(A128/(2031),1) into A2. That’s the number above.
It’d certainly be easy enough to put together a little javascript widget on the store page to do the calculation.
I think a package deal would be sweet, and they could even break it down according to body weight (200lb = package #1 @ $, 220lb = package #2 @ $$, etc). I realize that Biotest already has low profit margins but selling a package deal would push people like me (admittedly sitting on the fence with the V-diet) over and purchase the products.
Hell, they don’t even need to offer it year round, maybe just for two weeks to see what the sales look like. Plus, the more people who get on the V-diet and get great results are going to tell their friends how they did it (leading to increased product sales).

Do you really believe that they are that low? [/quote]
Probably not…I mean, I’m sure everyone working with/for Biotest is getting some cheese on their whopper so they do just fine. However, the classic response when asking for a bulk discount with most retailers is, “We would but our profit margins are so low already that (fill rest of lame excuse here).” I guess I just assumed that response would come up so I put it out there.
7 tubs of Metbolic Drive? How much do you weigh? at 10 scoops a day (2 scoops x 5 shakes), 1 tub is only going to last 3 days… You should be buying at least 12 - 15 tubs for the diet AND transition(which is vitally important).
Here is what I would consider a “standard” v-diet bundle
3 tubs of each flavor Metbolic Drive
3 bottles HRX
2 bottles Flameout
2 tubs Surge
1 large bag milled flax
I do think it would be an EXCELLENT idea to have a “V-DIET Calculator.” You could plug in your weight, percent bodyfat, sex, etc, and the calculator could tell you how much you need for the 28 days, and then add it to your cart for you when you accept the amount.
Honestly, if someone is “on the fence” about putting up the cash to do the V-Diet without versus with a discount, I have to question his level of commitment. I don’t think a 10% discount is enough of a factor to make or break a decision if someone is dedicated. Of course, if you really have no cash, there’s nothing to discuss.
And yes, I just finished the V-Diet. I actually had to pawn some stuff on eBay to afford the supps, student/no income/etc…
Hell yes, a discount would be nice, but once I decided to go for it, I made it happen.
There is a package discounted bundle for the women!
So all you who think it can’t be done, it is being done!
Come on let’s be real thinking it would be hard to get different flavors of Metabolic Drive is just asinine. That’s like saying it would be difficult to order more than one flavor at a time.
As far as some people needing more protein well have a standard amount for the most frequent body weight and if you need more just order a few extra tubs… If you need less well you have more for transitioning.
IMO Not more difficult than for women.
Weren’t the guys the ones who made the diet popular? Isn’t it just starting to get popular with the women and they get the discount?
They should really offer various types of bundles for different goals. Lean mass-gaining goals, V-Diet, T-level boosting, muscle endurance, etc. That would be a great way to get a lot of beginners (and even non-beginners) going in the right direction as far as supplementation is concerned (though, granted, they should be able to do that just by reading a few articles on the site).
