Thanks, Chris. One of the reasons I don’t post a training log is a logistics problem, but, on the other hand, I have basically followed CT, TC, CS, DJ and most others on this site for years. My training focus is primarily taken from problems I have encountered in my profession and I really don’t have the classic plans that people on the other forum use. My focus is not a heavy PR but to remain strong enough, with enough endurance to perform. Also, I would not want anyone to actually follow what I do, it would probably screw up their own goals. I will start posting some work I do. ( just don’t smirk out there, when you see it) LoL. Thanks again for the response.
Thank you. You cannot go wrong with PatMac, also, Bill Rogers is excellent but he is on the high end of costs. Damn, why can’t we be rich? :)))
Thanks brother. Ayoob is excellent. Bar fights, flashlights, and guns. Ha, love that , should be name of this thread.
Thank you.
Thought for the day:
Thanks to everyone for the replies. Might as well kick off another year with little rant:
I have a couple of thoughts on this essay.
If you are PC prefect or gender sensitive, do not read this piece. It is not a delicate, understanding article. It is straight and to the point about the declining manhood in males. Since this is the Combat Forum on T-Nation, I assume most of us are not snowflakes, since I consider this site to one of the few that supports being a strong, capable male.
Having said that, here is my personal opinion: I don’t care,( and I really don’t) what gender you identify with, I don’t care who you have sex with as long it is a consenting adult. I don’t care if you are wearing a Viking death mask or purple lipstick.
What I do care about is if the shit hits the fan, can you fight? Can you stand up to predators? Can you protect whomever you are with? Are fit to fight? Are you fit enough to save a 4 year old from drowning in swift water? ( I threw that question in because it amazes me how many people don’t know how to swim).
If you are wearing a death mask or purple lipstick, I don’t care, it’s what you are made of inside that counts. Outside of my little world, I don’t see much of this, from multitudes of males wearing Capri pants and flip flops to males too fat to buy groceries without a motorized shopping cart.
The one point that I disagree with the author, (and I know he wrote this for males), but, he is talking about making males warriors. I understand where he is coming from, but, IMHO, I have met some women who are better “warriors” than the snowflakes I see walking around Dubai International. I have worked with and observed Army /Air Force female EOD techs, military MP’s, female LEO’S both local and Federal who are just as tough and resilient as anyone I have known. So I would like to expand the term “warrior” to the females I have known, who I guarantee can kick some serious butt. Being a female should not stop you in becoming a warrior.
But, I agree with the author, we need men to act like fucking men.
From Chris Sajnog:
Because of the new society we live in, many men are, let’s face it, less manly than they should be. ‘Professionals’ are telling us that it’s okay for boys to play with either Barbie dolls or trucks, and that pink is just a color, not an indication of gender. In fact, we’re being told that we need to eliminate all gender indicators in a quest for equality. Obviously that whole thought process is out of balance, so here are a few things you can do to avoid that nonsense and join the warrior class.
Grow a set of NUTs (non-negotiable, unalterable terms) and live by them. These are anything you’re not willing to compromise on in life, period. The bigger sack of NUTs you have, the more of a warrior you will become.
Start practicing some form of martial arts. MMA, karate, boxing, jujitsu, pick one you like and go get punched in the face a few times. Find a school near you or start off with a great instructional karate book, like “Fundamentals of Freestyle Goju-Ryu.”
Meditate. This may be getting too close to the spiritual realm for some of you, but meditation is one of the most important things you can do for your mind and body. Sit in a quiet room with your eyes closed and work on quieting your mind for 20 minutes a day. Concentrate on your breathing or say a word (mantra) over and over. I use “Lam.” At first you’ll think it’s impossible, then you’ll be able to clear your mind for a few seconds, then minutes. It gets easier as your life becomes more balanced.
Find something you’re afraid of and go do it. If it’s a roller coaster, ride them until you stop crying like a five-year-old girl. If it’s public speaking, join ToastMasters. Everyone has fears. Warriors overcome them.
Work out. It doesn’t matter what you do, just work out hard. Breathe heavy, sweat. If you puke, that’s a good indicator that you’re getting closer to being a warrior!
Embrace competition. Sign up for a race, a fight, or just challenge someone to arm wrestle. Prove that you’re better than someone else at something, or work until you are.
Next time your spouse asks you where you want to go to dinner, give an answer and get in the car. Be more decisive. The more decisions you make, the easier they are to make.
Start establishing routines and habits in everything you do. We are what we repeatedly do.
Write down your goals and core values. Review them once a month. If you don’t have a map for your life, how can you expect to get where you want to go?
Become a master at everything you do. Everything in life is either worth doing well or it’s not worth doing at all.
Stop any addictions. If you smoke, do drugs, or drink to excess, your life is not in balance.
Shoot guns. If you don’t know how, take a course or buy one of the bestselling books on the fundamentals of marksmanship. My personal favorite (I might be a bit biased since I wrote it) (xxxxxxxxxxx)
Watch warrior movies to see how you’re supposed to be acting if you’re not too busy playing with your Barbie collection. This is my list of inspiring warrior movies. There are plenty of others, but this should help get you started.

Now here’s a cpl replies to replies:
1- SOG Knife: Selected & Purchased This one, love the feel, spring assist operation etc. Pretty damn sure it’ll be a keeper:
2 - VA Healthcare System:
They consistently piss me off. Until our nation demands they account for themselves by the same standards as every other medical facility, they’ll continue to have shitty standards for veterans.
I found that being a man requires you learn how to bite your tongue.
Thanks and nice knife, brother. That is a keeper.
Wise, wise words, not only in keeping the peace but keeping your job:)))
HA. Nice, got to steal this one.
The world doesn’t want real men unless there’s a war or a spider needs to be killed.
Speaking of guns, I’m thinking about switching to a revolver for concealed carry. I’ve shot a few of the S&W J-frames at a range. They’re difficult to shoot well.
I plan on re-reading some of the old threads here, but wanted to see if anyone has any advice as far as revolvers, holsters, carry positions, etc.
Sadly, that is true
The S&W Model 340 pd is slick and very concealable. Ruger SP 100 with a 3 inch barrel is tough, will last forever and less expensive. The down side is the weight for everyday carry. Kimber makes a nice little revolver, but, you are paying a lot for the name. Colt is bringing back the Cobra in a 3 inch barrel, but, you would probably need a second mortgage on your home to buy it. One of the lightest 7 shot revolvers I own is a Taurus. It is very light, not pretty, but, I have put about 300 rounds through it and it held up well and it was used when I bought it. For EDC and not a lot of range work, you cannot go wrong.
S&W 340PD

Thought for the day ( 1): Our Nation’s birthday. To all military, thank you and based on my experience, be careful today. Johnny Jihad like to shoot SS-20’s rockets on America’s holidays.
To all LEO’s, Firefighters, EMT’s and Dispatchers: Brace yourself for thousands of "shots fired " calls, drunken parties, and overdoses. Be especially paranoid today, I am superstitious of holidays, that one “shots fired” call could turn out to be real. be safe
I wish everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday.

Thought for the day (2):
Chris mentioned in an earlier post that I should start a training log. When I can , I will post my work and also write a little about my philosophy of training. First, I am not an expert, that’s why I will list the workouts I use for an outline:
Most of my training is to help maintain and increase my ability to perform during a lethal force situation. I believe in training to fight and training to win. If I feel that an exercise is useless in the field, then I don’t do it. I base a lot of my training on situations I have experienced in the AO. If I felt that I was lacking in some aspect when something happened, I would modify my training the next day.
Example: We were crossing the Tigris river bridge one day, when the vehicle in front of us struck an IED. The blast knocked our vehicle on its side. This was an armored suburban, hanging almost upside down, I had to cut the shoulder harness and then try to push the heavy door open. I was scared and flooded with adrenaline and I still liked to have never got that door open, finally had to brace my back against the seat and push with my legs. Fuck me was the only think that came to mind, later, I realized my strength sucked. Hammer curls and triceps kickbacks really helped me there. I changed everything on my approach, experience has way of doing that to you.
My main “lifts” when I have access to a gym are : Trap bar deadlifts, landmine presses in all forms, loaded carries, chin ups, pull ups, pushups, incline leg presses, heavy band work, kettle bells , plate raises, sand bag carries, sledge hammer swings, tire flips and throws, axe work.
Yesterday’s work:
Yesterday’s work: I don’t do sets, I get bored. That’s why I love the 40 rep method, however, depending on the exercise, I will take it higher, usually 75 is the ceiling, after that I am getting sloppy.
Landmine presses; both two hands and single. 40 reps with 135 lbs, 50 reps per arm with 70lbs.
Kettle bell swings: 35 lbs. 75 reps per arm.
Plate raises: 45 lb plate. 50 reps
Loaded carries: 85 lb dumbbell, held to chest and walked around the diameter of the gym 5 times.
Skill training:
Tennis ball throws with punishment pushups. The small gym I work out in the states is in a strip mall and in the rear is a paved area for the trash bins and deliveries for the business next door. I take a tennis ball and get about 15 to 20 feet from the rear wall of the gym. I throw the ball hard against the wall and try to catch it. This is an excellent hand eye coordination drill and really works your lateral movement (handy for cutting fast through doorways). Start by catching the ball with two hands, moving to single hand catches with both right and left hands only. Here is the kicker: you miss the ball, if it gets by you (stopping it with your body is ok) then 5 pushups. 5 pushups every time you miss.
I have a small boxing timer. Do 5 three minute rounds with 30 seconds rest. Give it a try, harder than you think.
Ok, I did not call it in. HOWEVER, around 0130, after having heard fireworks intermittently for 3-4 hours, I heard broken strings of gunfire. I promise I know the difference and it WAS gunfire. Thing was, I heard absolutely nothing else to indicate the shots were fired for any reason other than to make noise. My response was to nudge my woman and say, “Township PD is going to be irritable as hell today, and if those boys get arrested the DA will give 'em hell.”
Where I live, it IS illegal to discharge a firearm (without cause), so whomever it was using their gun(s) for bang makers was breaking the law, was likely drunk, unsafe, etc.
I pray the LEO’s out there today don’t encounter lethal amounts of stupid.
May God keep them and all our first responders and soldiers safe!

Yesterday’s work:
6.3 mile mountain trail ruck.
Skill Training:
Slingshot: I carry a slingshot almost everywhere I go. It is excellent focus training, since the “aiming” is purely instinctual. If on a trail ruck, targets can be anything from mushroom heads to dead stumps and anything in between. My model , using small steel balls, is around 250 FPS, not a toy. Slingshots are also excellent for ambidextrous training. I switch shooting hands, which causes you to become proficient with you “off” hand. Plus, its just fun training. Get good with a slingshot and watch your pistol shooting improve, focus is the key.
This is not a toy, be careful of you background, it will break out vehicle and house windows. Birds are off limits and small game needs to be taken during hunting season.
