The T-Nation Challenge(s)

I am down for a challenge, ^this one particularly^, I have a particularly large whale I will sponsor in the ring, any takers?

I don’t think many here are actually interested. It would be mean the difference between a “claimed” lift and an actual lift.

There seems to be plenty of competition to post the most “fat pics” or semi related gigs.

You could choose a single challenge and crown a “king” for each challenge. The party would hold the “T-Nation” record for X Event under appropriate judging or criteria. It would be like the old Louie Simmons record board for gym records. Top 3 guys get their “name on the wall” for whatever. The possibilities could be endless. Everything from bodyweight bench press reps to pulls up and everything in between.

See if you could get TNation to gift something to anyone that makes a top 3 result.

Now this would be “fair” under any measure, excluding of course - “but my arms look better than yours” And yes, as someone pointed out, there IS a physique improvement forum.

Just for starters:

Pull ups for reps (straight bar, rings)
Chin ups for reps
Pull ups for weight
Chin ups for weight
Muscle ups
Dips for reps (parallel bar or rings)
Dips for weight
Bodyweight bench press for reps (various grips)
Bwt. squat for reps (or 1.5 bwt.)
Deadlift for reps (bwt or 1.5)

Etc etc etc.

“Crowning” 3 top performers would give some guys around here some incentive to try to top it. And the beauty of “one lift” or “movement” is that guys don’t have to change their training too much to accommodate a challenge that has more than one element of strength or endurance. In other words, with some minor adjustments to your training, you could decide to attempt to “make the board”. Or, you can go all out if you so desire and specialize. Either way, it includes MORE potential members, instead of excluding those that don’t want to really change their training too much.

Just a thought.

I think this is a fantastic idea. I just wish I could do more than one of those movements. The only one I can do at close to 1000% effort is Chins. Not even Pull ups (sigh). I hope I can put up chins first so I can lead at least for a few minutes.

I will kick your ass, budddddddddddddy.[/quote]

I don’t know, you ate like a bird when we had lunch. I hope you can turn it on come game time.

Well, I’d certainly be willing to do something bench related. But you can count me out of any sort of DL or squat for reps. DL for weight I ought to be able to do soon, but it’ll be a while before I’m squatting at all, let alone for any kind of competition.

single rep max lifts I think are problematic b/c that becomes too much like a PL or strongman contest and if we’re going to quibble about a lb her or there (and that would be the difference) then how the lift is performed is magnified (and it becomes an issue to “judge”). I know we would get some technical calls on reps (and some necessary judging), but not as many as with a max lift in my opinion. I also think there is some “wiggle room” relative to technicalities on reps v. a single max lift. plus, when you start doing one rep maxes, you add the relative bodyweight element which further complicates things. so for simplicity and consistency, you’re almost relegated to some form of bwt. x reps.

I agree, that is why I was thinking of the “add X%” to your max or whatever. It seemed, at least in my head, to keep things relative, for lack of a better word.

Im in if we come up with something good. I’ve posted pics and vids so I have no problem backing up any claims. If we get something going I’m in. I agree that doing 1RM’s is getting to “powerlifter” oriented (even though i just did my first meet) but I’m down.

I like doing BW for reps and what not… basically what I’m saying is “Im in.” lol

I’ve never had a problem being accountable, but I’m not good at very much lol.

I’ll obviously play to my few strengths, but participate also if it isn’t a total mess.

Yea, the 1RMs would probably get pretty hated, especially with people dive-bombing benches, etc. Guess I’d be willing to do BW bench reps, pushup reps, and maybe some pullups :).

congrats

well…how did you do?? details man.

We need T-Nation buy-in to make it worthwhile I think. We need a “leader board” and need to agree upon which lifts/feats of strength “get on the board”. So, we need a “cell” maybe? I think it’s a good enough idea that they could consider supporting. That’s if there is enough interest.

Thanks. I went 445, 340 and 475. Definitely left quite a few lbs out there but I just was looking to break 1,200 for my first meet. Here is the video I made from it… pretty funny

hopefully it gets some lulz

In 100% for whatever you bosses decide. Never had a FINiBAR before looking forward to it.
