The Stupid Thread 2 (Part 1)

They race swapped three main characters.

Alienating original scooby doo fans (forced diversity)

Velma is now a lesbian (identity politics for no reason)

Even in the trailer, snide remarks are made about the audience the show was supposed to cater towards

And no… everything isn’t woke. Wokeness is what mediated a 1.9/10 rating on imdb

Even critics are finally waking it up, and this show has been bombed by critics and audiences alike for being edgy for the sake of being edgy, woke for the sake of ham fisted agendas that have no place in a scooby doo origin story.

It’s almost like a bunch of writers managed to get ahold of the licensing rights to scooby doo. Followed by which they sat down in a room and thought “how can we alienate our audience, try really hard to be edgy and push identity politics?”

Numerous companies like warner brothers have caught on to how wokeness isn’t getting butts in seats. The company is now conducting damage control

Shows like velma imo are a dying breed now, and we can clearly see there’s huge backlash from audiences… people don’t want to watch this

Who are these shows for? No one is buying a ticket…

I’m going to go off on a tangent now.

It’s not racist to be irritated with the race swapping either. A common arguement used to shut down disdain or irritation aimed at making previously white characters suddenly asian, indian or black is “what are you? Racist? Why does it matter if we swap the races”

First of all… why can’t a character that has always been white for some fifty years or so stay white? The character NEEDS to now be reminiscent of a minority… that almost seems like racism to me.

That and, it’s not the race people are upset about. Those who pull the race card to ineffectively stifle dissent towards race swapping fail to fundamentally grasp… these are cartoons that many have watched from childhood. There is a degree of nostalgia mediated from seeing familiar faces once again. Particuarly if you had fond memories of watching something like scooby doo

Now we see all of a sudden the characters race has been swapped… for no reason, with no explanation… just retconning history at that point as it’s an origin story.

Not only that, but in the trailer the writers had the audacity to poke fun at the audience the show was supposed to be aimed at. As if they knew it would cause controversy but went ahead “if you don’t like it… well fuck you then”.

Great way to ensure your audience puts down the remote.

Like who are these shows aimed towards

  • its not appropriate for kids (rated TVMA…) and kids who are watching it don’t seem to be liking it
  • adolescents don’t like it
  • adults don’t like it
  • original scooby doo fans don’t like it

Feels like it was just a circle jerk between the writers and the actors.

So let’s say in another universe the show has good writing, would any of these still bother you?

Cmon man, this is a crappy spin off, not scooby doo. In my opinion, if you think of it that way, there should be no reason to be offended by the show. The purpose of the show is to be different, but it failed at that

I’m assuming you watched the show. Was it good?

I ain’t watching that garbage, I’ve seen enough clips on TikTok, absolute cringe.

So why does it feel like you’re defending/justifying it?

I don’t get why @unreal24278 is bothered by race swapping when the show is meant to be different. He argues nostalgia and scooby doo, but the show is called Velma, it’s not scooby doo.

Personally, I love diversity in modern shows.

Can we make Gerard Butler the next Black Panther?

I’m cool with diversity, but unlike the woke mobsters, I believe diversity occurs naturally - not based on “best fit for the job”. Making it near mandatory to select based on gender, sexuality and race is the antithesis of Affirmative Action.
So to clarify: I approve of diversity, so long as it occurs naturally. To say that it wouldn’t is pretty racist IMO.

I agree with you Andrew. Also if someone ever made a movie where they made “race swapped” characters, I would watch it, especially if it the movie was meant to be satire. That could be funny as hell

I think we need exactly this to mend race relations. I truly believe the woke nonsense has set us backward as far as this metric goes… a good indicator of that would be Tropic Thunder.

Tropic Thunder came out in 2008, and everyone loved the satirical nature of Robert Downey Jr’s black character… it was genuinely funny. Could we make that movie today? Not a chance in hell; I blame wokeness for this.

We have kang though.

Meant to be an origin story

Not a spin off

It’s hard to believe you’re not joking

And who finds Downey’s character offensive? White woke women. I know plenty of black people who thought that movie was funny as hell.

Bring back Fat Albert!

That show was funny. No if ands or buts.

Velma plot description from imdb

“The origin of the sleuth and member of the Mystery Inc. gang, Velma.”

So in the future, Velma is white and she isn’t a lesbian… she pulled a Micheal Jackson

I don’t know about that last part.

Micheal Jackson was black, later on he was white

I have no idea what Micheal Jackson’s sexual orientation was.

But now we have an explanation as to how Velma and Shaggy went from being Indian (Velma), or black (Shaggy) as adolescents to white as adults

Wokeness is actually starting to die out

I’ll explain.

Numerous companies have been firing direcotrs and producers en masse. Big name shows like batgirl have been outright cancelled or release dates have been delayed in order to cater for reshoots.

Wokeness isn’t making money (look up santa inc, and now velma)

HBO is in a bit of a tight spot. These shows aren’t making money and they alienate audiences. At this point, companies like HBO ask “what is going wrong? How can we turn a profit”. I think velma is going to be the killing blow for HBO.

I believe over the next 20 years we will see the state of our media revert back to what it was around 20 years ago

And funny movies like superbad and American pie can be made again…
