I bet a lot of actually wealthy people are kinda embarrassed to be seen not buying the value brands, since they are almost always the same thing for less money.
I at least think this way. For example, I would be embarrassed to wear designer clothes because I would be strongly implying that I am terrible with money.
I buy whatever I want. I could care less what people think. It is my money⦠unless they want to buy it for me they can think whatever they want.
I have friends that are very into expensive designer sneakers, watches, etc. I never have been. I enjoy a nice tailored suit, but of course I have my other vices.
Cars and guns and elaborate vacations for the family.
When I worked in a supermarket, I noted how the poorer customers and those using food stamps never used coupons and bought a lot of processed foods which are more expensive than getting the same product fresh. They bought lots of junk food and soda.
Meanwhile, customers who had more money were using coupons, buying what was on sale and purchasing fresh foods (because having a job somehow left them with enough time to cook vs an unemployed person who obviously had better things to do with their time). They also had no problems buying the store brands.
I once had a friend who, at the time of this conversation was in his twenties. We were talking about coffee and he told me how he used to get coffee at Starbucks all the time. He told me that one day an elderly woman asked him what he was doing there. He said getting coffee. She told him that she was retired and rich so she could go get coffee at Starbucks but people like him werenāt meant to. She said this in a non condescending manner. He proceeded to buy a coffee maker. Maybe this is a bit of a tangent but the moral of the story is success leaves clues. Like the spokesperson in the article asked, why would anyone get upset about saving money?
Too many people play ākeeping up with the Jonesā or think they should have everything everybody else has in terms of luxuries.
I was making more than most people and I still had a flip phone (iPhone I think 7 was out) and I was driving an older paid off vehicle. My house was modest compared to the money I was making also.
I was pouring my excess money and everything I had into expanding and diversifying my business ownership. I wasnāt financing anything personal or buying things that were depreciating at the time.
I paid the dues and now I am benefitting from the fruit of my endeavors.
The poor person state of mind will never get this.
I think it was the wise Dave Chapelle who once said āThe poor mentality is a state of mind very few ever recover from. You are not poor⦠youāre brokeā.
We donāt deserve him.
@doogie i believe all women, therefore I believe Elizabeth Warren would (and should) be Commander-in-Chief. Her 1.5% Native American heritage demands it.
Letās hear it for our dearly beloved media apparatus! Of course itās āclimate changeā. Why take responsibility when you have a ready made excuse for everything. Bitchy wife? Climate change. Racism? climate change. Dead battery? Climate change. Gas lighting? climate change. Murder? Climate change. Hell, what isnāt climate change?
I know one thing, the pathological lack of self awareness has nothing to do with climate change. Just stupidity.
Of all the crap rising obesity has been blamed on this one might be the biggest stretch.
It also is counter to the point that obese folks use more natural resources (it takes more gas to move an obese person) that contribute to global warming, so now weāve come full circular logic on this one.
Global warming causes obesity which causes more global warming.
Iām all for calling shit out when I see it, but Pat is being satirical here I believe (or he just hates women, idk).
Heās not wrong that climate change is the default oppressor in every situation. I literally watched Bernie Sanders blame the November '15 Paris attack on global warming. I watched him say it live while I was deployed in spain.
Make an agreement that bases hiring and firing decisions based on race and have the audacity to call it anti-racist. I need some of whatever they are smoking haha, must be good shit.
And this is why education costs so much in this country. These councils and advisory groups are just a marxist money grab. They want to disrupt the school system as a white institution? Black parents in the cities want to have their kids bussed to these āwhiteā institutions.
Itās all code words for lowering standards for black students when it comes to education and behavioral expectations, even more than they have already. And they want to drag the well adjusted students, of any race, down to that level as well.
