The Stupid Thread 2 (Part 1)

In this day and age there is no reason why all schools do not have armed security guards, xray searches of backpacks and single point of entry into the buildings

Multiple news articles I read - of course they often tend to get things wrong. This comes from Sgt. Erick Estrada of the Texas Dept of Public Safety to the news media-

Apparently the police were chasing him from him killing his grandmother. He wrecked out near the school and they engaged him. He stopped out of the car with a gun and body armor. He fled into the school.

The rifle was a Daniel Defense with a Eotech on it from what I saw posted various places. And he also had a pistol - not sure the make or kind.

They should have body armor and AR’s too. All the police around me do.

I stand by my belief that teachers should be armed.

Many teachers are willing to die to protect their students. Surely they’d rather kill for the same cause than to die for it.

How about armed security guards….

Biggest douche-bag move ever to make this about his campaign. My sister-in-law and her wife work for Beto’s campaign. I hope they tried to talk some sense into him before he did this.

I think there was three armed officers involved before any kids were killed. Unfortunately, a lot of people have a ā€œbetter them, than meā€ mentality.

Same think happened with Parkland. Cops waited outside during Columbine.

I don’t see a practical solution to this problem unfortunately. Armed guards would help in some cases, be we already know that it doesn’t work in all. Probably a good idea if it stops some of the school shootings though.

I read that the shooter purchased the guns legally.
Lol let’s not give 18 year olds guns lol.

An 18 year old is an adult by law in the US. I already think it is bullshit 18 year olds can’t drink legally. It would be even more inconsistent to say you are an adult when it comes to being tried as an adult, you can join the military, but you can’t own a gun.

They could raise the age of adulthood to something like 21 for everything. That would be consistent, but then we probably would have a lot of trouble with getting military recruits.

What about you can own a gun at 18 years old if you provide proof of being in the military

But for non military citizens 21 years old

It still isn’t consistent with the idea that adults are granted equal rights. The drinking age is in violation of that and I think it should change. Either move the age of adulthood to 21, or let the 18 and up folks drink.

I also don’t think that a person willing to shoot up a school is going to be all that morally bothered by breaking a law about the age of owning guns.

If I really wanted a gun at say 18 and it was illegal to own one, I wouldn’t feel any sort of guilt over possessing one. Maybe worry about getting caught, but not guilty. If I really wanted one, I’d find away, since it isn’t that hard to do, and I am not interested in committing any violent crimes.

What if they’re labeled as young adults rather than having equal adult rights.

We should make it illegal for 18 year olds to shoot up schools.

He could have killed a lot more kids by just waiting until they were lined up for the buses and mowing them down. Evil has nothing to do with guns.

It doesn’t but the purpose of a gun is to inflict harm or to threaten.

For a lot of things we needed an age where we thought people should be able to make big life decisions or consent to certain things. We picked 18 which may or may not be right, but it was easier than evaluating each young adult to see if they were ready. Of course some are still not ready at 18 for all of the decisions or granting consent. Some are before 18 as well.

I guess my point is that I’d like to see consistency of thought in our laws. I think it is inconsistent to think you can be responsible for a bigger decision at 18, but this one we don’t like but is more minor, you have to wait until 21. The government already wants it both ways in its favor. I don’t think expanding that type of thinking is a good idea. Better to just fix the inconsistency they currently have (either allow drinking at 18, or move adulthood to 21). Based on what I know about 18 year olds having been one myself at one point, moving adulthood to 21 might be the better choice.

My guns are intended for defense and hunting.
