The Stupid Thread 2 (Part 1)

How stupid can you get? No, don’t answer that question, I am sure something will come along to beat putting gasoline in plastic bags.

A US agency put out a warning to everyone on Twitter amid the gas outages caused by the pipeline cyberattack: “Do not fill plastic bags with gasoline”

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission tweeted Wednesday morning that people should “use only containers approved for fuel.”

The tweet came after photos and videos circulated on social media of people filing grocery bags and other items, including plastic storage containers, with gasoline.

A 10:30 mile is definitely attainable, but remember it comes after 5 power tests, where that wasn’t the case before. People are not used to having their energy systems drained before they start the 2 mile.

I agree it’s total laziness on the part of people not being able to pass a run most times though. HOWEVER…

The army is training like shit for this new fitness test. The numbers are in the article and they’re not mysterious… Women are failing the power tests the medley and the abdominal strength test because they have much less experience at strength training than men do on average.

Add to this that the Army still can’t train for shit - new test (a drastically better test IMO), same old training regimen with same old dumbass approach.

My MIL in law lives in FL. It is something different that is for sure. The drivers there are trying to use the force or something, because they sure aren’t looking.

That’s slower than a warm down pace.

But it’s mostly women.

They changed the test and it ended up being even harder for women so what’s next? Lower the standards for women?

The old standards had women in their 20s comparable to men in their 60s.

I don’t know if this says something about women or women in the Army. Based upon my experience, it’s the latter.

That’s going to be tough to do when this test was supposedly based on job requirements (and supposed to be less arbitrary than the previous test).

I suppose, they could have required scores for certain jobs. That would get around the job requirement based test thing (which is probably designed for the toughest jobs).

My son is a 6’1" 280 lb lineman who is playing football while in ROTC. He can make the run at his current weight with no issues. The hanging tuck thing kicks his ass currently, though.

The run got the highest fail rates in both genders though remember

They’d better not. My female athletes can smoke that test. Including one who’s 60.

But see my other post about their organized (meaning Army) training being shit. Something about old training methods with new training test…

I have several friends involved in teaching defensive tactics/combatives on a post nearby and they have front row seats to the train wreck, to which I get regular updates lol.

Yep, not surprised. The heavier you are the worse the tuck is. But I didn’t write that as an excuse for them - because I don’t think there is any. I would say the only excuse probably at this point is that the army can’t figure out how to bloody train for the thing. They’re stuck in an old mindset with a new test.

Of course that doesn’t stop people from training on their own. But one should be able to expect the army to competently direct training for a fitness test. (Emphasis on “should” because we all know the reality of the matter)

I mostly just wrote that as a reminder that an aerobic test done after the heart rate has already peaked is harder than one started from a resting heart rate. Just physiology.

I don’t know about the US, but over here the standard for passing is the minimum requirement for one to be considered “physically fit”. There’re tiered categories based how well you do when you pass. A simple pass still means you more or less suck. Judging by the 21min run since the article doesn’t state the standard for the other exercises, I’m assuming they’re similar. If you can’t pass them, you aren’t even considered “fit” for an average person.

We have annual physical fitness tests here for people still on reservist duty and I normally try to get the highest points possible because they give me more money lol.

Note:

The standards get lower for some exercises based on age.

I think the new standards are based on fitness for service. Imo, a soldier who tries should get close to a perfect score. My two buddies who enlisted both got near perfect scores all throughout.

A perfect score had a lot of weight to it. More likely for promotion, and during specific job training they didn’t have to wake up at 5 to do pt.

It’s not that hard if you really train for it unless they add in stupid things like flexibility tests which aren’t really trainable unless you were raised in a family of contortionist acrobats lol (seriously, I lived opposite one when I was a kid). They abolished these tests before my time. If they hadn’t, I would have failed miserably.

EDIT:

That being said, I’m on the fence about vocation based standards given the increased reliance on, and the level of today’s technology. Perhaps some vocations today shouldn’t even require any physical testing or you’re actually using civilians for them. IME HERE, the military isn’t organized well enough to be able to efficiently make such distinctions while acquiring the best man/girl power(!) for specific positions. I don’t know enough about the US military to really make a call here.

I did that test in October on my 51st bday. There’s a chart in this article that shows the scores needed for different types of jobs but I have no idea if it’s correct: Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) Score Chart

There is never a shortage of stupid. Had to laugh out loud after reading the response from the local PD.

When I was in, it was relegated to x amount of pushups in a minute (iirc, for my age bracket it was something silly small like 50) - same with pullups and “crunches” (lol) THEN you did the 2 mile run.

Most of the people who failed were usually mid to senior level airmen (i.e. old fucks) even though the standards were tiered and were lower the older you got

then why does yoga exist? I’ll tell you this, I always had tight hammies and couldn’t really touch my toes without a significant bend in my kness, now I can touch the ground full palm without much issue … it’s trainable

I have the same problem but probably for different reasons. 4 years of training throughout secondary school couldn’t solve it which ended up in me failing my PT every year despite getting “gold” for every other exercise because of sit and reach. It’s not always because of tight hamstrings, neither is it always trainable.

Article attributes this to vaccinations (probably part of the solution). The other answer is that the virus already killed off the weakest among us, but no one seems to be taking that point of view.
