Michelle Obama has been vetted by the most aggressively, violently woke SJW i know. I decided to ask (at a dinner party) who was pure enough, and she was the only one who passed the test haha. From what i know, Washington only owned slaves because he owned a farm and day laborers didnt really exist then, just slaves, and by all accounts was a good dude and treated them well. Also, he essentially founded this country so he gets his name on a bunch of stuff despite any minor indiscretions.
that said, i donāt really have a problem with changing names of schools, parks, streets, monuments, etc as long as it doesnt present a financial hardship or create logistical hardships. things change, this would be a fairly minor change in my life.
Basically i think its kind of a stupid cause to go after the dead guys that werent objectively bad people (or traitors), and i think its a stupid hill to die on to oppose re-namings as it really doesnt matter.

Of course it matters. History matters. Understanding people on a human level, and not just as white, black, or whatever matters. When the narrative is that white men are responsible for all of the evil in the world, and enslaving blacks and killing indigenous peoples are the evidence of that āfactā, it is racist. Indigenous peoples conquered and enslaved. The Aztecs sacrificed thousands of POWs. Imperialism is a manifestation of white evil yet the Aztecs had an empire, sub-Saharan Africa had empires and slavery, Ancient Egypt was an empire.
Columbus is the devil because of his history with slavery, but where did these slaves come from? They were bought in African slave markets. Tear down the white manās statue while holding up Africa as some utopia that cannot be criticized for its sins. But by recognizing those sins, we actually come together as one human race as we can see how we all reflect the good and bad of humanity. Painting a picture of perpetual and inherent black innocence and perpetual and inherent white evil, does no one any good except those who profit off of hate.

Because conservatives actually enjoy living in areas where conservative policies are enacted. The real question is why are liberals so keen to move out of liberal areas? If liberal policies worked, everyone would want to live there. As it is, even liberals donāt want to live there.

Which is why i think the hill to die on would be a change to school curriculum that eliminates teaching about people important to the story of this country because they were shitty people. Knowledge is power. Choosing the history we teach in order to shape a narrative is a hill i would die on. Its why id prefer that all statues remain up and the shitty folks have big plaques describing their shittiness. But, āschool pride/spiritā is american AF, and its tough for a black student to be prideful about a school name that represents a slave holder.
Also, at least in my district 20+ years ago, we learned about the African and ME slave trade along with the Atlantic slave trade. Atlantic slave trade wouldnt have existed (atleast not in the same form) without the african slave trade.
