Are people driving around Chicago in technicals?
Welfare takes care of that.
They are too busy getting their hair and nails done.
Comparing the government of Chicago to Somalia is an insult to Somalia.
No, I donât see hyperbole. Either you are trolling or just not understanding what I am saying. My comments are based on what I have seen in the past, which reflects what I think now. My experiences in life shape what I am today. The same goes for you, your past shapes what you think now. Thatâs the way it should be, different views is what made America the country it used to be. I have always enjoyed reading your views, because, quite frankly, war and my professional life has no semblance to yours. Itâs good to hear your views because they are so alien to me. I appreciate your comments, but, you and I are on the opposite end of the spectrum. Seriously, I wish you all the best in Seattle. I hope you have a successful life there with your fiance. Be safe, be aware, and never forget, you are your own first responder.
Iâm not saying you dont have a reason to be pissed off, or feel the way you do. Im just saying that making hyperbolic statements of objectively incorrect things is not helpful to the discussion (women do not need to walk miles to get water, people rely on welfare and even the homeless have resources to use if they want to so they arent surviving on $1 per day, there is a govt and there are police however ineffective, and the corruption is not nearly the level of somalia). If i use hyperbole when discussing issues feel free to call me out on it, its not a good pattern to fall into. Cheers to the well wishes, i hope good things are ahead for you as well.
The problem Americans have when it comes to Antifa and other white suburban rage is that they donât know, through no fault of their own, history outside of America. At least not recent history.
The Red Brigades started with the student riots in Northern Italy. There, just like here, they were middle and upper middle class young adults who were supposedly fighting against the capitalist forces that keep the working class down. They were really rebelling against the middle class backgrounds they came from, i.e., their parents. They saw the middle class life as boring and unsophisticated. Since they lacked the ambition and the work ethic of the un-pampered Southerners to succeed in the world as it was, they chose communism. They assumed they would get the benefit of their education to keep them from manual labor while their lack of work ethic and ambition wouldnât keep them from getting the job they wanted.
They had the same sense of entitlement as the violent protesters here. They both feel as though they can assault the police (who come from the very working class they claim to defend) without the police responding in kind. I mean, they are uneducated goons who get paid to suffer abuse from these elitists. They have dehumanized the police the same way soldiers dehumanize the enemy. ACAB, anyone?
Anyway, once the Red Brigades arrived on the scene (founded by college students), the violence took an even darker turn. They committed murders. They set off bombs. They killed the prime minister of Italy in cold blood, in the trunk of a car. It served no purpose. It was terrorism. There were not that many members of the Red Brigades but they made a lot of innocent people suffer.
This should serve as a cautionary tale for America. Just as you have pundits putting forth some idealized view of Antifa and the violent aspect of the protests (itâs just property. It isnât, as people have been assaulted and seriously injured) there are those in Italy and other European nations who have a romanticized view of the Red Brigades. They were cold blooded killers while also being middle class college students.
I know itâs hard to believe that middle class white kids are capable of extreme violence and murder but for whatever reason, some of them are. Where does that rage and lack of empathy come from? We need to find out because we can address this now or wait for people to start getting killed because history does repeat itself. Borders donât keep that out. It can happen here and itâs already started.
Also, the RAF (aka the Baader-Meinhof Gang) in West Germany.
Almost all of them entitled upper middle class kids turned kidnappers and murderers.
Itâs funny because when they protest it isnât with a sense of desperation but of entitlement.
A black cop who possibly grew up in the communities he works in and who wanted to be part of the solution and not end up a statistic, gets the middle finger from a self righteous suburban white woman in the name of racial justice. In her mind, heâs the racist.
I donât know. I define motivation and effectiveness as two different things. Much like the Ron Paul base I see them as politically motivated but not particularly effective. Partially, of course, because they never had to compete and meet expectations as Z said (IMHO).
That said, I do see a serious problem with antifa, precisely because they get a significant boost in coverage from media etc. Iâm not calling them cultural superpowers or anything, but Z is correct that this pattern has been seen beforeâineffectiveness at the start does not mean they wonât gain effectiveness later when political motives are present. Given enough leeway it can be generated.
I donât remember who said the following about the Paris riots of 1968 - " a socialist revolution is when sons of doctors and academics throw stones at sons of workmen and small farmers"
TBF sheâs not giving him the bird b/c heâs black, itâs because heâs blue
What does this mean for super woke heroins like captain marvel? @dt79
https://www.google.com/amp/s/time.com/5857064/defunding-police-superheroes-onscreen/%3Famp=true
Sheâll be fine. She just needs someone with the appropriately woke credentials to be her defunder DefenderâŠ
Sort of like I had no idea who Bragg was until this whole thing erupted. Itâs just the name of a fort, as far as I knew. After reading about him, I fully support removing his name. Not so much because he was a confederate, but more because he was apparently a horrible leader and general.
Whew, @Silyak:
As a âSon of North CarolinaââŠI had to look another Base up:
âNear the end of 1942, the base was named Marine Barracks Camp Lejeune in honor of the 13th Commandant and Commanding General of the 2nd Army Division in World War I, Major General John A. Lejeuneâ.
Thatâs good.
I have always loved âFort Fayett-Namâ.
There are a number of Airborne heroes/Generals of WW-II that it could be named after, as well has distinguished members of the Special Forces over the years. Even âFort John F. Kennedyâ may be preferable to a second rate Confederate GeneralâŠbut in our Political Climate it is doubtful that it would pass. (Even though the Special Forces John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School at Bragg is named after him).
This is from time magazine? My mind is blown.
âTâChalla eventually comes to represent a compromise between these two viewpoints: He uses his relative privilege to empower people who have been held back by colonialism and racism but finds non-violent methods to do so.â
Wakanda is a fucking MONARCHY whose citizens live in 3rd World poverty despite an abundance of a valuable fictional natural resource, tightly closed boarders, out-of-this-world technology and infrastructure created by a TEEN whoâs supposed to be smarter than both Tony Stark and Bruce Banner, and thereâs fucking HUMAN TRAFFICKING going on while the only one who can be bothered to stop it is THE FUCKING KING who has to conceal his identity wearing a fucking COSTUME, and does so only because he wants to invite his girlfriend to his inauguration ceremony.
One⊠ONE psychopath taking the throne can order the entire country to go to WAR the very NEXT DAY. With RHINOS. And SPEARS.
Oh FUCK, how the fuck can you take stupid shit like this and try to use it as a political allegory?
Marvel will go downhill without The Russo Brothers anyway. Infinity War should have swept the fucking oscars. Who did they nominate that year? Black Panther, Bohemian Rhapsody, BlacKkKlansman, Green Book. They picked Green Book over FUCKING ROMA for Best Picture. Can you imagine being Alfonso Cuaron just sitting there and thinking, âThis is my fucking competition?â and then LOSING???
LOS ANGELES â The Los Angeles Board of Education on Tuesday approved an immediate 35% cut to its school police force, a reduction of $25 million, in response to weeks of protests by student activists and community groups who had called for the elimination of the department.
The board action also calls for officers to give up their uniforms and patrol off campus, and will lead to the layoffs of 65 officers in the 471-employee department. The money saved will be allocated to fund staff to specifically serve the needs of Black students and a task force that will study ways to re-imagine the issue of student and campus safety.
're-imagine the issue of student and campus safety" I am sitting here this morning trying to re imagine campus safety: roving packs of wild dogs trained to kill active shooters? or perhaps a force field surrounding the school? High voltage electrical fences? T-walls built around the school like on a military FOB? Having a hard time with this.
The portion of Garciaâs language that was preserved said the money saved would go to âsupport African American student achievement to the extent of the law.â And until safety alternatives are worked out, all schools would have access "to appropriate community support in the event of an emergency."
What the hell is that? What is âappropriate community supportâ to a violent situation? or how about this scenario: two years ago in Florida, a bat shit crazy 6 foot 5 naked man covered in his own shit, carrying a sword, walked into a grade school. Handle that one with appropriate community support
Just before the vote, Garcia added an amendment that would bar the school district from replacing the school police by contracting with the Los Angeles police, the county sheriffâs department or a private security force.
Barred the locals and private security companies. I guess that âcommunity supportâ is going one hell of a large and well trained ( what?) I donât know a good word for community support.
The fight for real school safety has only just begun," said Black Lives Matter L.A. co-founder and L.A. Unified parent Melina Abdullah. âA powerful coalition has formed and will not stop until we rid police from schools and invest in visions of safety that are grounded in meeting student needs.â
What are âvisions of safety grounded in student needsâ? Someone please explain to me what this is. Here I was just thinking, that a student should attend school with the expectation of being safe. What other needs does a student t have when it comes to safety?
âWe fundamentally believe that resources make our schools safe, not police,â said David Turner, manager of the Brothers, Sons, Selves Coalition.
What âresourcesâ protect you from violence and make your schools safe? Need an example, Mr. Turner. I have kid entering your school, how are you going to protect her?
Before the vote, school police Chief Todd Chamberlain told the board the cut would result in an immediate reduction of 65 officers and would limit officer presence at high schools to school hours Monday through Friday. In addition, he said, 39 vacancies would not be filled, and there would be no overtime available to fill the gaps. The department has a total of 472 employees, including 344 sworn officers, who are certified to carry weapons.
High schools typically have one assigned, armed officer; middle schools have an unarmed security aide; and elementary schools rely on roving patrols for safety issues. Groups of officers typically arrive quickly at a school when a serious security call is sent out.
Not any more.
Officers also would not be able to provide security for adult and night school, he added. After-hours security would be virtually eliminated, making it difficult to deal with burglaries, vandalism and trespassing. A detective who focused on sex-trafficking prevention would surrender those
duties.
No security provided for adults and night school, no nothing. We all know that predators never hunt at night, so the âcommunity supportâ can get a good nights sleep.
Perhaps the most compelling loss, Chamberlain said, is that the departmentâs intervention and prevention efforts would have to end.
It doesnât matter, whatever you did, I am sure they will do better. After all, you are not needed anymore. If anything happens in the future, the childrenâs blood is on their hands.
When all is said and done, the kids still wonât be able to read at grade level. But why should schools worry about teaching, you know, their actual job description.
