The Stupid Thread 2 (Part 1)

the pedo part is the problem, not the dragqueen part. Also, WTF do drag queens reading to kids in a public library to teach tolerance of others, and a joy of reading have to do with same sex marriage? You might as well be arguing that once we let black people into the white part of the public library, a black pedo transwoman started reading to little kids.

Regarding human trafficking, i believe that the thinking is if prostitution is legalized and regulated, human trafficking would decrease as people who were trafficked would have a much more difficult time getting licensed, and they would have resources easily available to reach out to for help. The logic makes sense. Unfortunately, it looks like some studies show the opposite. IRL, countries with legalized prostitution have higher rates of human trafficking.

Blocking roadways is not peaceful-I think this is the big issue with these protests. Throwing things at people is not peaceful. Burning things is not peaceful. Inciting riots is not peaceful. The old man got what he wanted; it was stupid of the Officers to give it to him, but I have zero pity for him.

It’s a communist nation; they are all prisoners.

True. But maybe our crime levels wouldn’t be so high if we spent a little more time deciding what exactly should be a crime. Your ability to avoid going to jail for long periods of time is largely effected by your background (different rules for wealthy) and if you can afford to hire a great attorney. Then we don’t spend (in my experience) much time helping anyone with the skills to avoid going back.

If you have money you won’t be in jail awaiting a trial. If you don’t you will be until it’s finished.

I believe prostitutes should be treated as victims but those that exploit them, especially pimps and traffickers, should be treated like the rapists and pedophiles that they are.

If we were truly a fascist nation they would have left him to die in the street as a message.

And yet you can find examples of violence towards people doing none of those things. If you care to look. But if you would like to just lump everyone in a group that’s your option.

As a coworker of mine pointed out: People in America don’t fear the Police; they wouldn’t act the way they do towards them, if they did.

Or call 911 thousands of times a day.

A child still runs to his physically abusive dad for help…

Human psychology is weird and illogical at times.

strawman and hyperbole much??? Hold yourself up to the standard you wish to see in others dude…

that is what is called a metaphor.

Zecarlo posted something along the lines of if people actually feared the cops they wouldnt call 911 thousands of times per day. the metaphor i responded with is a child running to his abusive father for help. In this instance the child would represent the people afraid of the cops, and the abusive father would represent the bad cops people are afraid of but still call for help.

That would presume that every person who calls 911 has been abused by the cops. There is also a difference between an abusive father and someone who supposedly is hunting you down. And let’s be honest, the majority of the white protesters who live in safe suburbs have only one fear of the cops: being told to stop riding their skateboards on the sidewalk.

I could add, the cops will still risk their lives to save someone who only minutes earlier was spitting on them, calling them pigs and throwing rocks at them.

got it, it’s a metaphor when you do it … I’ll keep that in mind (double standards are a bitch, man I know)

I agree with all of this. I am a firm believer that, as far as possible, there should be an equivalence of arms in a court room. It is for this reason that I was appalled by the UK government slashing legal aid, it manifestly impinged on justice for the poor for the sake of pennies.

Yes, being rich does mean you’re more likely to skate away, and to a certain extent this is unavoidable, especially given that white collar crime gets a wrist slap all the way until it becomes a Madoff style situation. That said, I know many UK criminals with rap sheets as long as their arm who get light touch sentences and early parole, even in cases of violence.

There’s a happy medium somewhere, and a look at the statute book would certainly be a part of that, as would post incarceration policy.

Crime and punishment is too complex for a simple fix, but doing nothing hasn’t exactly done wonders either.

Why is that quote being attribute to me?

For some unfathomable reason, it originally appeared to me that it was your reply. I’ll correct it now.

I assume for the same reason my ā€œlikeā€ on your post a ways up appeared as a ā€œlikeā€ on @H_factor’s. Some kind of bug.

The agency I used to work for has recovered several underage prostitutes, none of whom had voluntarily become prostitutes. They’re not all college chicks trying to pay for that law degree.

The point is that same-sex marriage was once regarded as deviant behavior, whether you disagree or agree that it was deviant. Human behavior, being such that it is, guaranteed that people who engaged in other behavior commonly seen as deviant would naturally fight to change the perception of their behavior by others just like proponents of gay marriage did. Prior to the legalization of gay marriage there was no way in hell drag queens would have ever been allowed to read to children in libraries.

Your allowance of HBO and other organizations to censor various art forms will only naturally lead to further censorship of art forms considered ā€œdeviantā€. It simply won’t stop with ā€œtrigger warningsā€. We already see people destroying and defacing statues and memorials. It will only get worse.
