The Stupid Thread 2 (Part 1)

It’s a good thing no one has said that. You came up with an answer that’s looking for a question.

Yeah no one said that. Last I checked people were dying that weren’t in nursing homes as well. And we’re just starting to see that getting it and recovering may have significant effects.

But we shouldn’t take our eyes off the fact that people dying is way cheaper and let’s just go ahead and assume that’s what they want.

Pretty sure that’s in Deutronomy … maybe Numbers

I think they were more concerned with slavery, rape and genocide.

I don’t know man, they get pretty in depth in there, I’m sure it was squeezed in

I thought that was ridiculous as well, then I read this:

Others, like author Roxane Gay, defended the move: “Unqualified men appear on cable all day every day, bloviating endlessly, but Greta Thunberg is a bridge too far? Ok.”

I mean, she might only be 17 but she is probably already as well educated as Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, neither of whom graduated from college. I say, let’s embrace the ignorance.

We have to factor in that Moses lived to be 1,000 years old or something so they had a different scale when determining who was elderly.

IIRC he was only like 120 or something like that … totally reasonable…of course they had different calendars back then as Gaius Julius Caesar wouldn’t be born for another 1000 years or so…

Apparently CNN is claiming it wasnt meant to be an “expert panel”.

I actually believe that. I think they are just trying to get anyone with name recognition on their programming. Doesnt matter if they have expertise on a subject as long as they have +100k followers and an opinion. Kinda like how the romans stuck gladiators and random prisoners in the ring with lions and tigers just to see what would happen.

I think people have trouble differentiating between what is actually meant to be news reporting on these channels, and what is meant to be entertainment journalism.

FWIW, i still don’t get what the big deal is abut Greta Thunberg. She seems like a teenager passionate about climate change. But, as far as i know (which may not be far), she isnt really exceptional otherwise? Like, shes not a teenage genius or inventor or something right?

I for one can’t wait for Greta Thunberg to replace Ernie Johnson and join Charles, Shaq and Kenny The Jet Smith on TNT’s Inside The NBA.

C’mon Man!!!

According to her parents she can see carbon dioxide.

While this is very likely to be the case, it does make their attack on Rand Paul, who is a doctor, look rather stupid.

Edit: whatever you think of Rand Paul, he’s not unqualified to have an opinion here, even if his opinion isn’t one I share.

Edit: I also think Kirk is a putz, for the record.

The internet. She’s Greenpeace minus the danger and well, actual work. Activism without action.

From Wiki:
she was diagnosed with Asperger syndrome, obsessive–compulsive disorder, and selective mutism.

So basically a typical teen these days. I wouldn’t expect her to invent an engine that runs on water for fuel.

Correct.

Everyone is qualified to have an opinion on anything by virtue of having a brain. The question is how much value should we place in his opinion vs those who are much more qualified on this specific subject. I don’t know what he said but if he prefaced it with, “this is outside of my expertise but to the best of my knowledge I believe…” then that’s different.

My only concern, as much as a lazy bastard like me is capable of being concerned, would be: how much am I hearing Paul the doctor vs Paul the politician.

That’s the situation when the Mitsubishi engineers in WW2 realized the Empire of Japan was about to lose the war.

Prime Minister Tojo visited their offices and said something along the lines (more convoluted and cordial obviously, it was Japan after all) "Don’t worry the war is going great and we’ve got enough oil but could you guys design a fighter aircraft that runs not on that pesky high octane fuel but air? Oh, and in two months time, preferably from bamboo"

  1. Methusaleh was the oldest credited in the Bible, still less than 1000 at 969. (Gen 5:27)

I picture that meeting went something like this:

Still not as old as Joe Louis when he fought Marciano.
