Apologies if they wrong forum but it is concerning hypertrophy.
I saw an article on here where Christian Thibaudeau talked about the Snatch Grip High Pull being able to make an almost immediate impact on your physique. He mentions in the article it’s the only exercise he’s seen make a difference to someones body in two workouts.
I’ve been a big fan of Snatch Grip Shrugs and I suppose they’ve had some effect on how I look, nothing crazy though, but last Wednesday (7 days ago) I gave the high pulls a go for six sets of five. A few days later I did another three sets of five. Got up this morning looked in the mirror and I kid you not my lats and traps (especially the part really close to your neck) seem to have put a noticeable amount of size on. I can’t understand how two to three months of Snatch Grip Shrugs can give relatively minor results for the high pulls can have such an effect.
Can someone explain this to me, and has anyone else had similar results?

Increased resting muscle tone from the explosive nature of the pull, and the fact that the speed of the explosion brings muscular tension to a much higher peak than simple shrugs. Also, suffering from the Jim Wendler illness: traps are badass.
Love the high pull, highly recommend it to everybody who can be bothered to learn it correctly.
SGHP have definitely helped me out in the trap department. I’ve been doing them for a good six months now and probably noticed the first physical changes after three or four sessions.
I have been doing the SGHP generally from a hang or pins consistently over the past 2 months. I have noticed a marked difference in my upper back, traps and delts. I find this explosive movement perfect for cultivating the power look I am looking for. Generally speaking I do 5 work sets and go from 4 reps and lower the reps as I increase (5lbs) the weight in a linear fashion.
Between this and hang cleans I have come up with useful olympic style lifts to replace some other movements I can no longer do because of injury. I actually no longer do shrugs of any kind on a consistent basis as I find this as a more effective substitute, and the explosive nature of the movement I believe can translate to my pull.
Another thing about the SGHP, I find them a lot of fun

Keep in mind I hadn’t been doing any kind of intense upper back/trap work for a long time before starting with this exercise. I won’t say that SGHP directly slapped pounds and pounds onto my traps, but there has definitely been a noticeable development. The traps DOMS after a good session is pretty intense, too.

Thats mostly it imho. You’ll subconsciously flex your trap muscles (while not being aware) every time you raise your arm and boom! instant transformation like in that picture that Lorez once put up.
