It sure felt like it too. Fortunately they’re different enough that I don’t think I’ll stale out on the regular squats. Best thing for rehab and rebalancing though - lighter weight, focusing on form throughout the set.

I would have to agree with this assessment!
Great work, Skid. After deads on Monday I noticed a couple bruises on my legs, and thought I might have some minor tears. No real pain, unless I push on them, though. I’m hoping everything is fine for squatting on Monday.
You hinted you might take a day off before. That’s one of the things I like about 5/3/1. If I can’t go into the gym on a particular day, I just go the next day. No pressure. I’ve also been noticing that my body feels much better with more recovery. Before, I always felt like something was going to come apart. That’s gone.
X3
Just wanted to say hello…wait, are girls allowed here? looks around the room
Had to skip ahead a bit, cause man, you all are CHATTY!!!
Seems like your squat is coming together…figured out the elbow thing and stuff. I am too, and I never realized what a big role my elbows played! sheesh…
Keep it up!! ![]()

Thanks Mom-in-MD. Ladies always welcome, of course.
The real trick for me has been bar placement. I’ve always had it either too high, a la Olympic-style squats, or too low, resting on the back of the deltoids. The latter bends me over too far and actually causes a longer moment arm than when I put it on the shelves of the scapulae and arch like hell. It feels like the bar is balancing there, which has the benefit of making me grab it really hard. Once it’s there I can get my elbows forward and force the upper body arch. Still working on foot placement though. My stance is wider off the box than when I free squat and at this point I’m starting to think that my quads are being the limiters in the movement.
Meat’s been a real help in getting my squat together.
Beach Day.
My son wanted to throw big rocks, so we dug a bunch out and threw them as far as we could. We dug really big ones out, and the ones we could lift we carried to a pile. I picked up a 200 lb log (est.), balanced on my front leg in a kneeling position, cradled it and split squatted/zerchered it up. walked it up a hill and dropped it on the rock pile. Nobody would come near us after that because we were obviously nutso. Talked about track and field, shotputting and throwing sports with him after that.
I like being stronger than I look.
Hams and heinie nice and cooked from yesterday. The split squat was hard.

The greatest moments in life are the simplest, being really strong always helps.
2nd day DOMS is here. I think I’ll do 245 for assistance box squats next time.
Military presses later today after breakfast digests some more. Have to remember to set my grip a bit wider this time…

A bit of grinder on that final rep - nice work!

A bit. Was starting to see stars just before the lockout. Gotta get some lower abs work in to make these go up better. Felt mushy the last few reps.

That feeling of being well-knit is most prevalent for me in my lower back. No big pains to ignore anymore. The forced deloads and the inherent limitation of load has been very good for the lumbar region. And the reduction of fatigue is allowing me to express what strength I have developed.

1Geech - have you been peeking?
Skid looking strong.
See what forced recovery can do. Hmm I need to work on that too.
Nice squats! and nice pressing!

Ditto, although I feel it in the legs now, too.
