The Sadness of Welfare

Yeah, although this obviously isn’t 100%, I’ve noticed that alot of other cultures/ethnic groups the norm is for the kids to stay with the family until they’re able to look after themselves completely/have career/get married/etc, while in North American-born households, it’s like ‘gtfo’, or ‘I’m moving out’.
Just my experience though.
I think one major factor is the worship of the nuclear family. I believe its a flawed model - not only do two people not have time to raise a child themselves (needing school, camp, babysitters, day care, etc), it’s bad for the childs development to only have one model for what a guy should be like and one model for what a woman should be like.

I’d guess this is why you have so many people who are “exactly like their mother/father” and who marry someone who is exactly like their “father/mother”.

Yup. America is crazy with all kinds of people living alone and paying all kinds of money for it.

Agreed. Familes should still live together. The grandparents can take care of the grandchildren while the parents work, the grandchildren can take care of the grandparents when they get too old. Thousand ways families living together saves money… yet its this huge taboo. I wonder why.
Nope grandparents are supposed to collect SS for 25 years while driving across country in oversized RVs.

I don’t think most people live in a nuclear family, I think it is more likely most live in a conjugal family. Or do you mean in America?

looks like Kentucky and Missouri are moving in the right direction on this:

I applaud you sir. You sure the welfare and 5 kids you can’t afford route isn’t for you?

How can one abolish welfare? Any ideas, I heard of one state that wanted to have those who receive aid to be submitted to drug test. I think this is a damn good idea. And why is that so wrong.
When most of the drugs used are legsl ones like percocet, oxy , and the like how would that work? Scripts are EASY to get …I mean, in theory drug tests sound good but seem kind of poitless to me.

Sure no plan to fix it is perfect that is why I prefer no welfare, but since that would have to be gradual a drug test would be a great first start. The way I look at it is if you can afford to buy a bag of weed, you can buy a weeks worth of sandwiches.

I am afraid that route won’t get me to my dream. And besides I come from a family with 5 kids, fuck that.

Well Ct. Rockula good point but like John S. said its a start towards regulating welfare. And also if they have an ailment that causes them to be in that condition we can start having probate officers to watch over them.
