The Road To Former Fat Boy

I have no right to post anything but will anyways…

WHY IN GOD’S NAME ARE YOU DOING THE V-DIET, COUNTLESS PEOPLE HAVE TOLD YOU NOT TO YET YOU CONTINUE TO DO SO. THAT IS EVEN MORE IGNORANT THAN I WAS WHEN ASKING FOR ADVICE

You are priceless man ROFLMAO!! There can’t be 2 like this guy!!!

I do mean it when I say I hope you’re recovering.

i don’t want this to be taken as a flame, because i’m sure all of us here want T-Nation members and people in general to reach their fitness goals.

that being said, i find it funny when people i know won’t go out with me or with their friends to have a brekafast or lunch at some restaraunt <or even when invited over to a friend or family member’s house!> because they’re so obsessed with calories/carbs/fat whatever. i mean, i can understand this if the person is stepping on stage in a few weeks… but 99% of the time it’s an average trainee who’s actually concerned about the ratios of poly to mono to saturated fat… and then omeg-3s and omega-6s… holy fuck! calm down, you’re not elite, you know?

this is not hateage of any kind to someone who is displined/dedicated, whatever… but i think more often than not, it’s OBSESSION that’s based on just being fucked up in the head.

people like that also come up with the best excuses for turning down foods that they actually want to eat. want some of this to eat? ‘no thanks, i just ate… i’m pretty full.’

i think we’ve all met that ‘type’ of trainee before.

Day Eight

Can you keep us posted on weight loss and inches lost.

I agree with the others that you are setting yourself up for failure…however its your body and you decide what you want to do with it. I do hope that after you’re done witht the V-Diet, that you will switch to something more healthy such as Beradi’s program in order to keep losing fat steadily and LEARN how to eat properly. There is simply no quick fix to losing fat permanently.

I’ll keep reading your posts if you keep on posting them so we can see your progress. Hopefully, you understand that this DIET is short term and does not teach you how to change all the nasty habits that got you fat in the first place…

Good luck

Hey JWJordan, take if from me…a guy who came down from 280 or so all the way down to about 185 before (for the first time in my life) trying to get back up to around 200. There is no magic diet. If you want, keep doing the V Diet until you get to your 280 I think you said you wanted to get to. Then after that, use it as inspiration to change your lifestyle further. Go out and buy as much chicken, lean beef, fish, veggies, PB, olive, eggs, and other leans foods as you can. Lift 3 or 4 times a week, get in some cardio, READ UP ON NUTRIENT TIMING, and eat enough. Dont starve or you will be so skinny fat you will hate your new body. Nutrient timing for a FFB is pretty important. Also, search for and read Chris Shugarts FFB Handbook. And follow it like your life depends on it…actually… it does depend on it. Keep us posted too. Having these guys on here will keep you disciplined. Good luck man!!!

I think JWJordan is one of these guys where the more people tell him what’s going to happen the more motivated he’s going to be to continue. Not so much to prove that everybody was wrong, but to prove to prove that what they were right about didn’t apply to him.

I can’t help but wonder if Chris Shugart, the man who created the V-Diet said not to do it if he would even listen to that.

The Day Disaster Struck

Sort of.

Went hypoglycemic, or started to, so that’s the end of that.

Going to switch to meat and veggies, which should make you lot happy.

Anyhoo…

Workout 12/4

Bench

45 * 10
135 * 5
155 * 3
185 * 2
210 * 1,1,1,1,1,2

DB Rows

Cybex Press

Abs and rotator cuff.

Not bad. Skipped the deadlifts because my gut was feeling a little tweaked. Held back on the bench.

Hey, you dont have to look at it as just meat and veggies. You can eat a ton of stuff, just make sure thats its clean food. Read EVERYTHING you can get your hands on that Berardi has written. That guy will get ya on the right path as far an nutrition goes. I think you will like eating this way alot more too. Good luck and ask any questions if you have them. Like I said, I have been down this road, and so have several other guys on here. We’ll help ya out.

The Prof is speaking the truth man! I started at 326 lbs (6’1") at age 36, in 8 months of eating 5-6 meals a day(2-3 of which were protein shakes) I dropped to 220 in 8 months, I trained 6 days a week. I have put some weight back on because I didn’t plan for what I would do once I reached my goals nor did I think I could get there so quickly. I agree that the V diet may not be the place to start. I have to say I guarantee I would not have gotten anywhere near my goals without the information on this site, the contributors are second to none and people like the Prof are an excellent source of advice. Good luck bro!

It’s not a matter of making US happy, it’s a matter of YOUR health. Don’t worry about us man, just channel all that enthusiasm into a more sensible plan and you will be fine and if you do it right, much more than fine.

Hey,

Your decision to confront your issue is awesome. You are going to be finding out about yourself in a way you never have before. You will learn about your self-loathing, and you will also learn about your hatred of others. You will find out how weak you are, and, if you continue, you will find out that within you is a core of hard, cold, black steel. No joke. We all have it, I believe, and if you dig, you’re going to hit that foundation. From that point on you will be able to do most anything you focus upon.

Stand true to yourself.

The “you” you create will always be with you - right up until the end. Your friends may one day go. Your lovers and wife may one day go. Even kids, pets… they can all turn your back on you - or sink their teeth into you.

And you know what? None of that is really so bad if you remember to always take care of yourself. You find there is room in your life for these people to find their own space and redefine themselves - when they aren’t all you have.

If you are working on yourself, taking care of yourself, then when your wife leaves it is still very sad, but you see a great looking guy in the mirror everytime you shower in the morning, and you know more women, more company, more love - is on its way as soon as you desire it.

To always put your strength in that central piece of steel. To always know your own authority.

Do this for yourself. And make it a “do or die.”

You’ll never be the same. You’ll never have to be this guy again.

Do this for yourself, just so you can know what that means.

And don’t just lose the weight. Make it a hygiene decision, too. Begin taking care of your appearance. Begin taking care of the aspects of your outward self you may have let go as the weight piled on. Keep your hair trimmed. Throw out clothes with stains. Shower daily before going out into public. You probably already do these things, but if you don’t, do them…for others, but also for yourself.

“Self-caring” is a wonderful thing to discover. You’re the only one that can provide it to you. The first step is caring about yourself.

Good luck.

I agree with Trib… You’re probably just saying “which should make you happy” as a matter of speaking. We all talk that way…

But, nonetheless, keep things clear in your own mind. You are doing this for yourself. This is a thing you will have, and it will always be yours. It will affect your entire life…your work life, your love life… even your friends will treat you differently.

Part of it is because it will massively change your attitude on life. That massive attitude change is not only going to change how people see you, but it is also going to inspire them to be a little closer to their own ideas.

But you gotta do it for yourself. It can’t be for your mate. It can’t be for the kids, your parents, your boss…

Because…

Because… I don’t know why… Because it is too hard to do it for them. Because it is YOURS. Because it is your foundation, your powerbase, your life that it will affect. Because, in the very end, the truest truth is that only you can possibly really care about you. No one else can - they can only care about themselves.

Don’t do it for anyone but you.

Find your own authority.

No, man, this is going to make you happy – and healthy.

You are a good man - and clearly a tough one who has what it takes to turn your life around.

Here is my story, and if I could do it, I KNOW DAMN WELL THAT YOU CAN DO IT –

type II diabetes, I floundered around for 10 years until I saw the light re nutrition. Which is at least 6 small meals a day, at least a gram of lean protein per body weight per day, w low-glycemic carbs, and good fats. Weightlifting and/or cardio 6 days a week. A cheat meal now and again, no more than once a week and sometimes not at all. Anytime I screw up, I just let it go and get past it. You are only one meal away from being back on your program.

I started at 285 w a 53 inch waist. I ended up at 185 w a 34 inch waist. No longer on diabetes medication. After some initial big losses, I lost about 2lbs a week. That’s what I shot for, and it seems like the healthiest way to do it.

Some weeks I didn’t lose any. It didn’t matter, I kept on going. Eventually I started losing again.

Those books I linked to earlier were a real help – initially The Zone, nowadays Berardi’s The Metabolic Advantage.

Keep at it. As always best of luck. and Keep Posting.

I say meat and veggies, but really, it’s meat, veggies, fruit and shakes. Balanced out the shakes with a piece of fruit, and no hypoglycemic episodes.

I am discovering that I find lettuce barely edible as a salad component. Onions, peppers, carrots are all good, though.

I’m going to try spinach as a salad base and see how that goes. I like spinach in stuff, so I have high hopes.

This morning, I had a smallish lean steak, a little under five ounces, and an apple, banana, and half a cup of cottage cheese.

This is actually a good chunk of food, and the apple was probably overkill.

Nah, thats a pretty solid breakfast. You should try to get in most of your carbs in the morning and after your workout. You had the banana and apple…both GREAT choices. You could maybe drop one of the pieces of fruit and throw in some oatmeal if you can eat that. Maybe try making oatmeal and cut up the banana and put it in there. Thats pretty good. Then with that steak you are getting a good dose of protein. Just be sure to trim off the excess fat. Sounds like you are on your way to a healthy diet you can live with. Keep it up!!!

I actually got a tear in my eye.

I look foward to reading about your progress.

Keep it up!

The apple was a little much in terms of volume, rather than nutrition.

I debated between the fruit and oatmeal with blueberries, but I decided to hit the fruit.

The steak was great, though. All hail the Foreman Grill.

Ah yeah, the feeling that you are going to explode. See back when you used to eat terrible food, it didnt take much food to have WAY too many calories. But now when you are eating cleaner food, you have to eat way more to get the cals that you need. It will seem like you are eating way to much but if you keep track of your cals you should be ok. Have you read about the

P+C and P+F. Its where you eat your first three meals of the day made with mostly Protein and Carbs (P+C) then you make your last three meals of the day out of mainly protein and fat (P+F). I used that while losing most of my weight and have been trying to use that now as I attempt a slow clean bulk.
