Weapons does look cool.
I saw “Barbarian” (by same director) and it had enough twists to keep me entertained.
I like this recent generation of horror movies, where the gimmick is trying to figure out what Type scary stuff is happening.

@marine77 I think so!
@FlatsFarmer I’ll have to check out “Barbarian”! The newer horror movies have been really fun. Most recently we saw “The Monkey” which was obviously not serious. I also really enjoyed the VHS horror movie series because they were all different
Gotta be witchcraft
We went to go see Lilo and Stitch in 3D yesterday. I went in expecting at least some stupid woke crap since it was a Disney Pixar movie but was pleasantly surprised to find none that I could detect. It was an entertaining movie with good characters that I’d take any of my nieces or nephews to go see.
I watched “Greyhound” this weekend. Thanks for the suggestion @doogie.
Tom Hanks leads a convoy of Allied ships across the Atlantic, while under attack from a “Wolf Pack” of German U Boats.
90 minutes long, tight storyline, really focused on the danger of the crossing. A quick glimpse of Total War, and how everyone was a target. And a reminder of what the Greatest Generation faced in WW2.
It was pretty short for a war movie, and there wasn’t a lot of character development, but rumor has it a sequel with more of that stuff is in the works.
Watched the new “Frankenstein” on Netflix and was pleasantly really, really surprised/happy! It was really great, great cinematography/picture, the actors were great, and I was more than anything just happy to watch a movie from Netflix that was GOOD. It seems like since Covid, most of the movies the streaming services have churned out have been utter crap, especially Netflix’s own movies, but this was really entertaining. It was the first movie I’ve watched in a LONG time where I wasn’t pausing it every 20 minutes to go do something, take a break, see what else was on, etc. I actually watched it all the way through without pausing as it really held my attention. I highly recommend it. Although having Guillermo del Toro as the director probably played a huge role in making it a great film, in addition to the actors (Oscar Isaac, Mia Goth, Jacob Elordi) who gave great performances.
Saw Predator: Badlands over the weekend and it kicked ass. Within 5 minutes of the opening I found myself thinking “Holy shit, this is rad.” I do agree that it’s heavily “Disneyfied” and the critter sidekick is pretty corny, but keep in mind that Predator 2 was a laugh out loud RIDICULOUS movie and it was great because of it.
I watched A Bridge Too Far again yesterday.
Something I really appreciated this time is the slow pacing relative to recent movies. It really highlights the “mundaneness”. A lot of recent movies show waiting, but the slow pace makes me feels it
Seen it also ( Badlands)… I think some of the negative things being thrown at it isnt deserved . It was better than some of the other crap I have seen in the theater this year.
Id say one of the best movies I have seen this year.
Agreed. Regardless of everything else, it has the Predator kicking ass throughout the movie and that was the most important element to nail.
Watched The Running Man this evening. EEH could take it or leave it.
Eh, while I’m sure the action is good in the new Predator Badlands movie, I was disappointed to see how they made the predator look. If they had wanted to really make him a badass, they would have used the predator in the movie “The Predator”, the giant one that was genetically enhanced! That guy was a bad mofo, especially the way he tossed the regular predator he fought with, around like a rag doll. This was the predator movie with all of the “crazy” ex-soldiers who escaped with that female scientist on that bus. That would have made the Predator badlands much better. The Predator they used for Badlands looks like some sort of Parkour (sp?) dude, not a badass killing machine. Just my .002
Also, watched Nobody 2 (with Bob Odenkirk) on Peacock this weekend. Not as good as the first one, crappy plot/acting, story line full of holes. However, just as an action movie to watch, yeah, it was fun. But Sharon Stone playing a bad guy, wow, she was terrible. Not convincing or scary. Like I said, give it a watch to see some gratuitous violence, but don’t sit down expecting anything great.
Watched The Long Walk. I haven’t read the book in about 25 years, probably, so the differences between the book and movie didn’t really bother me too much. Fairly entertaining. I like the ending in the book better, but I get why they did it this way.
You clearly didn’t watch the movie.
My bad, I should have said I did not see the movie. If they DID have that big predator in the movie, well, then my bad, and if he’s in there then I will make it a point to see it when it comes out on streaming.
A Working Man
Former Special Forces guy and widower Jason Statham just wants to live a simple life with his daughter. Shockingly, he crosses paths with some organized crime types and violence ensues.
Similar to other Statham action movies: good enough to watch all the way through but ultimately forgettable.
I saw Sylvester Stallone and David Ayer co-wrote the screen play, and expected more.
The predator being a shrimp is a big part of the movie plot.
I never watched The Predator, but I’m sure I’ll enjoy it.
It was actually pretty good, and the cast of crazy military guys was a nice addition to the plot. Not as good as the other predator movies (although any of them are better than predator II, god that was dumb), but entertaining. I also enjoyed Predators, where all the baddest bad guys are kidnapped and dropped into the predators’ game preserve to be hunted.
Working man, I enjoyed that movie. But I also went into it knowing it was going to be a pretty typical Statham movie where he kicks everybody’s ass, which he did quite thoroughly. I think Wrath of Man was one of his better ones.
