The Return of Even More Movies You've Watched This Week III

I heard this. The director said he did it so no single country would be identified with any of the less-than-admirable characters.

I’m sorry but Werner Herzog and Nic Cage disagree. If I was a billionaire I’d spend a significant amount of my assets funding movies on the condition that they’re made by Herzog with Cage as the lead.

Moved from MMT thread as this one is more fitting

Lol I think I did reference the “his soul is still dancing” scene in this movie before.

It was ok, not the best one but ok

Btw, is the original worth watching? I’ve got such a low attention span nowadays I can’t even watch new shows/movies without getting bored. I’ve resorted to just rewatching Sherlock in my free time.

Honestly, the super weird part is that it’s not an “original”. They are completely different movies who, for some reason, share the same name.

Their only common denominator is “corrupt cop does drugs” but Ferrara’s movie with Keitel is played much more serious, if you understand what I’m saying.

I watched John Wick 4 and probably had a mild orgasm. No, I’m making this up. I actually had multiple full blown fucking orgasms throughout the entire fucking movie.

First, I didn’t know Donnie Yen was in it.

Second, I didn’t know Donnie Yen was going to do a fucking Zatoichi with the holding the blade in reverse thing.

Third, I thought everything would start looking really slow if Donnie Yen actually fought with Keanu because of the visual effect of their at least 80lb size difference (he’d make Keanu look slow, or he’d have to slow down, no fault of Keanu. It’s how motion works in film when it comes to body size and mass), They had the fucking brains to not make them physically grapple. Bra-fucking-vo. This is why I love the dude(s) making these John Wick movies. The movies are way more intelligent than people give them credit for.

Lastly, I saw a fucking nod to one of, IMHO, the greatest Japanese movies ever made that no one other than me and a couple of old farts in a theater that mostly aired half-porn movies. That movie is Black Angel by Takashi Ishii who loves making rape movies but he’s made one great film, which was this, and one that’s not too bad called Freeze Me but the latter is much harder to watch because he went for gritty realism instead of near comic book style violence. The fucking camera work is unmistakable.

Anyone who thinks they fucking know what “subverting expectations” actually means and have not watched Black Angel knows balls about the phrase. It’s called Black Angel cos you’re literally expecting some heroine like that sitcom or series with Jessica Alba and they literally set it up. And then everything goes to hell in such unexpected ways but do not take the silly absurdist route the only real thing you can do is laugh. Seriously. Go catch it. You’ll get what I’m takling about. It’s the kind of slapstick taken to it’s natural limits - the violence in the John Wick movies, but, unlike the John Wick movies, it has a real fucking mean streak going on which no audience would accept from Keanu. And the unbelievable ariel camera shots inspired HK’s Johnny fucking To when he made Running Out of Time. Yes, I know my fucking Asian movies lol.

I’m going to give this a 8/10. It’s pure entertainment. And the ending, while not very original (I expected it but only because I watch a lot of HK movies), was the only logical way to go to provide closure for the audience but not many movies would have the balls to take this route.

Bravo dudes!

PS:

Pok kai ham ka chan!!! LMAO.

That’s not much of a curse word but it’s considered a really fucking bad one in Cantonese.

It simply means you are forced to reside on the streets probably because of bankruptcy and your whole family is dead.

Actually, it’s a 2 in 1. You can use Say Pok Kai (the first word as an addition is “die”) and Ham Ka Chan as curse words on their own.

Well, I’m definitely watching JW4 later today, if there’s a reference to Zatoichi reverse grip.

For no reason whatsoever, the fight scene that ties all the plot points together, from one of my favorite movies of all time…

It as the exact reverse grip but the choreography is more “polished” like the Kitano remake.

Zatoichi was massively popular everywhere in Asia. Shit, I used to frequent a Filippino pub (you know the kind I’m tallking about) and one chick who was in her 20s named her kid “Shintaro” lol. That was in the mid 2000s, long after the originals.

  • Those who don’t know - the dude who played the original Zatoichi was Shintaro Katsu.

Woah… pants must have been sticky when walking out the theatre!

Man, I don’t know who those fellows are haha. I only remembered that video because I was working in a LAN shop (that’s an internet cafe which cost like 2hr USD per hour at the time to play games and stuff. I’m not even sure they exist anymore. The shop was running at a loss despite maximum capacity at an average of 8hrs a day.) waaaaay back and some regular kids were bloody tickled silly by it. Kept rewatching it.

Go watch popstar…

I See You

One of the better movies I have seen in a while. Concept revolves around a cop investigating missing boys while at the same time something or someone is fucking with him inside his family’s house.

Slightly predictable but not terrible.

Was watching a probable exorcism movie called Consecration.

This is how low my attention is and also how much making films has fucked with me.

In the first 10mins, the lead chick goes home, sees her ginger cat and calls it “Mr Moo”. In my head, all I can think is this shit is going to suck because someone in the props department was obviously supposed to get a black and white cat since no one fucking names a ginger “Mr FUCKING Moo” because the reason why black and white cats are named “Mr MOTHERFUCKING MOO” is because they have similar coat patterns to FUCKING COWS and they couldn’t even get that one thing right.

But I gave it a chance. Then 2mins later, she gets a call telling her that her brother committed suicide. Next she’s talking to a detective. And, oh this is fucking M Night Shyamalan level dialogue:

“My brother would never kill anyone. Why would he kill himself?”

Who wrote this shit lololololol??? Then I’'m thinking maybe the ginger cat was written as a ginger cat named “Mr Moo”.

Turned it off. FUCK.

Watched constantine recently

The Keanu Reeves film. I’ve seen all the DCEU constantine cartoons.

Interestingly it was filmed as a pg-13 film, but recieved an R due to ‘tone’… there’s nothing objectionable in that film aside from the tone being really, really dark.

If the dark night wasn’t slapped with an R… This didn’t need to be either…

@dt79

Look up “Beau is Afraid”.

I know how it ends and what happens. Managed to find what people who purportedly had access to the script prior to the films release date had to say.

The film looks/pans out like a bad trip… watch the trailer
