The Return of Even More Movies You've Watched This Week III

Corn. Specifically cutting corn cobs. I can’t help but visualize chopping my finger off…

I enjoyed the new Jumanji. Not anywhere close to the original, but I enjoyed it. I forgot everything that happened in the second one, though.

Major pain is on Netflix. Currently watching it, haven’t seen it in probably 12+ years :joy:

I honestly didn’t even remember liking the original although I do remember being quite impressed by the CGI at the time.

Btw, anyone here watched Cats?

Is it horrific? So bad it’s good? Boring? Underappreciated?

I love all things Robin Williams. I was also quite young when it came out and it has a lot of nostalgia for me. I showed it to my kids recently and they loved it. Honestly, having kids has probably ruined my sense of objective criticism, since I just love their reactions to stuff.

The original Jumanji was one of those childhood movies that was stuck permanently in my head.

But… so is Flubber for some reason, so…

A bunch of celebrities pretending to be horny cats prance around, introduce themselves, and then one of them dies.

My friends and I played a drinking game where you drank everytime a cat introduced themselves, a cat was disappeared, or they said the word “Jellicle”.

Then we hit the song “Jellicle Cats” and stopped that nonsense.

Watched The Suicide Squad. It’s pretty good.

I like how James Gunn can constantly subvert our expectations and still get a big laugh out of them. I think this was perfect for Harley Quinn’s character. I’m talking about the way the previous 2 movies with her in them tried to depict her but failed, not the comic book depiction. I have never read the comics. I just kinda get what the movies were going for.

James Gunn should have made Birds of Prey. This version of her will scare the crap out of anyone who’s ever dated a crazy chick. She’s a hyper realistic version of one. You don’t tell us she’s crazy by showing her suddenly breaking someone’s legs for no real reason other than the shock value. You set that shit up with proper writing.

The scenes of her kicking ass were bloody over-the-top but they were exactly what I wanted to see in Birds of Prey. They were even way more unbelievable but they work in this movie. I don’t question how a chick can fuck up so many guys because the movie is so successful in creating it’s own cinematic world in which I EXPECT to see shit like this happen after so many of my prior expectations have been subverted in a satisfying way.

Fuck, this movie is so gleefully mean spirited but executed so well it succeeds in turning 2 entire fucking calculated, cold blooded massacres into seriously side splitting punchlines. You see why I keep comparing it to Birds of Prey? Here’s a movie about political cover ups, US foreign intervention, military coups and a fucking armed uprising that somehow manages to be way crazier than a movie about a crazy person while still making more sense.

My only gripe is sometimes it gets too cartoonish for my liking. Just a little. Perhaps it was needed to balance out the violence and subject matter but I think they could have gotten away without it the way John Wick did.

And I had long suspected the brilliant song choices in the Dawn of the Dead remake couldn’t have come from Zack Snyder. I always suspected they were already in James Gunn’s script after I watched Slither. I can’t fucking believe I’ve finally been validated 16 years later lololol.

Anyway, this is a great direction DC is headed. I’ve been ranting about them fucking up their movies because they didn’t have the balls to take chances on good filmmakers like Marvel did and even when they did, they had no bloody faith in the audience, which led them to butchering their final products in post production. They’ve finally understood this. I would really like to see the original cut of the first Suicide Squad.

Saw Jungle Cruise with my 13 year old tonight. I agree with @flappinit summation of the film. Nothing great, nothing bad. Emily Blunt is the female lead so that helps a bit (side bar - how does John Krasinski land her?)
Honestly as far as Disney rides tuned into movies, I liked it better than Pirates of the Caribbean which got really stale after the first film.

Hmm I guess I wasn’t aware of that. That’s definitely a different look than in “A quiet place”

1.5 hour documentary. One of the most brilliant pieces of filmmaking I’ve ever seen. You literally could not write a better storyline. The way it all unfolds is unreal. If you’re going to watch it, don’t look up info on it - it was a few years ago, and so new technology has come around since then. I’d recommend this video more than any movie I’ve discussed in this thread. All my family have since seen it and agreed with me.

Watched Blood Red Sky. It’s one big mess with a couple of interesting ideas. “Vampires on a Plane” should have been a lot more fun that this. Can’t even diss it because it was so mundane. I have no idea how you can unapologetically rip off Die Hard 2 and Train to Busan, throw in vampires and still come up with something so lacklustre and boring.

American Horror Stories sucks.

Awwww, that sucks!

Sometimes American Horror Story is really fun and entertaining. I was hoping this other one would be good.

Maybe the new Dexter will be OK.

I really, really hope this is good. After the whole “adoptcest” stuff and subsequent final seasons, my interest in the show took a serious dive.

Yeah, hopefully they can recapture the fun and dark but silly tone of the first 3-4 seasons.

I hate that they killed off Deb.

If you like those horror anthology movies like VHS, you might like it. The problem with AHS(s) is that each episode is 40+mins long but it’s like they stretched out one of those 25min segments in those movies to fit the running time.

I’m just going to wait for the new season of AHS.
