The Return of Even More Movies You've Watched This Week III

Shit, he WOULD be a good joker! My first choice for old joker would’ve been Gene Wilder. If only he was 10-15 years younger he could’ve given us one last masterpiece.

Christoph Waltz could do a good joker I bet.

Right?

I really can’t imagine.

Oh, for sure, dude’s amazing.

shit I just pictured Nic Cage as the joker and I can’t stop laughing.

He already came pretty close.

And now I can’t… :joy:

“We… LIVE in… a… SOCIETY!!!”

If he played Batman and throttled Joker like in Face Off while going, “Diiiee! Diiiieeee!!!”, I’d probably spontaneously pass away while laughing.

So I watched another 1/2hr of Justice League before falling asleep.

Why the fuck are you filming The Flash in slow mo when he’s doing his flash shit while everyone else is also in slow mo, only slower??? I thought that was something Joss Whedon changed in the first one since he also did that to Quicksilver.

Well… He’d be great for the campy Batman of the 60s, that’s for sure.

I’ve watched about half the movie so far. It’s better than the theatrical cut alright, but it’s still 4 fucking hours of, quite frankly, overwritten fluff.
Other than maybe The Ten Commandments and Once upon a Time in America, no movies need to be 4h long.

Yeah, I’d rather they cut down on that slo mo shit and had Batman fight those alien bastards in Gotham. Whatever happen to those scenes?

I managed to complete the movie and it’s pretty good. Batman isn’t reduced to being “the bug killer”. The Flash actually has some amazing powers that exceed Superman’s but he’s a noob so he doesn’t really know to use them properly yet. Same with Cyborg. Wonder Woman really fucks people up. The way Superman gets his memory back makes sense. Character motivations make sense. The stupid “saving civilians” part at the end has been removed. Everything kinda makes sense(as much sense as a comic book movie can make). Superman still manhandles the bad guy easily but it also makes sense within the context of the story and the sequel that was originally planned. The only thing I missed from the previous version was the “Pet Semetary” reference which has been removed. That was actually funny and the only time I laughed.

Disclaimer: I’ve never read the comics nor any cartoons or the TV series. All my criticisms of the previous version were based on what I understood from that movie. I didn’t know The Flash can move faster than the speed of light and all the other shit.

7/10

They’re all gone. The silly “they feed on fear” part has been removed. The bugs are just nameless foot soldiers like Storm Troopers.

Border. A Swedish movie I saw on Hulu. One of the most viscerally disturbing movies I’ve seen. 8/10

I agree, but the problem is, other than Wonder Woman, they never introduced the other characters like the MCU did in solo movies before the previous version. That’s why it sucked. They had to take the time to provide enough of their back stories to make this movie work. Maybe I wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much if I watched it in it’s entirety in the cinema, but watching it over several sittings was fine for me.

I mean, I didn’t know lots of stuff like The Flash has some kind of force around him that prevents him from liquidating people he runs past. If something with his mass moves at the speed of light, it could literally decimate a couple of cities due to collision with air particles lol. Not really nitpicking the science since the Quicksilver scenes in X-men were pretty fun so I don’t really care, but I appreciate the fact that they tried to explain it.

I rewatched In Bruges the other day. Haven’t seen it in years, and it’s a lot funnier than I remembered. Would recommend if you’re into black comedies.

Just finished up American Psycho. Interesting film, though I’d like to discuss something regarding the film with anyone who has seen it. I assume @dt79 has seen this

I felt as if the film was a critique, or criticism thereof of the elitist, yuppie/Wall Street lifestyle durinng the 1980’s. Characters are deemed interchangeable, borderline worthless, greedy and obsessed with vanity/materialistic possessions. Patrick Bateman/his associates frequently mis-name one another; affairs are deemed the norm, obnoxious behaviour and excessive drug use (cocaine) are portrayed as mainstays within the day to day lives of Bateman/his associates.

Yuppie stereotypes are comically exaggerated, to the point where characters appear to value materialism over humanity/common decency. There was/is no warmth or comfort from watching this film, nor are there any characters to route for. Patrick Bateman may be a delusional psychopath, but his associates arguably aren’t far off; enveloped within a sea of narcissism and vanity.

Bateman gets away with murder (In a literal sense) as his colleagues are so jaded/obsessed with their own self images to the point they appear totally oblivious to their surroundings. This particularly hit me when Bateman is in a restaurant, drawing pictures of a mutilated woman (the chick he kills with a chainsaw) as his GF/fiancne sits across the table, quasi socialising through superficial interactions

What I couldn’t decipher was as to whether the killings were in Batemans mind, whether it was real; or whether it was a 50/50 split. Bateman’s first on-screen kill (homeless guy) is hard to chalk down to delusion as opposed to the more farcical scenarios present towards the end of the film (prostitute + chainsaw, police cars blowing up etc). It’s obvious Bateman has what would be deemed “antisocial personality disorder”, and his mind appears to slowly unravel as the film progresses. The first hint I had to thinking “this might be a hallucination” was right near the end when Patrick picks up a stray cat whilst drawing out money and the ATM reads “feed me a stray cat”. Furthermore when running away from police Bateman appears to make a desperate attempt to break into numerous cars, all of which are the same colour/near identical models.

This could be chalked down to further commentary regarding the interchangeability re the Wall Street yuppie, though I’d chalk it down to a hallucination.

Did he kill Allan?

Also saw Dallas Buyers Club, my comments are :sadpanda:

Fantastic performances, but very sad movie

I did and I didn’t like it lol. But I can’t remember enough of it to get into proper discussion.

I don’t recall this scene but it could be a symptom of schizophrenia. One day, from out of nowhere, my schizophrenic relative suddenly started interpreting the sounds of people walking in slippers at home as “voices” telling him the wearer was going to harm him and would physically assault the person.

Yes, I know most schizophrenics are non-violent, but some are. And my relative has a pretty decent right hook lol. They can have visual and/or auditory hallucinations. I’ve been through over 10 years of this shit and spoken to multiple psychiatrists in 2 countries as I’ve been helping his mother out occasionally by taking him for treatment.

He also started hearing voices from the sound of water flowing down a common vertical pipe whenever someone flushed the toilet in the apartments above his. The fucker went to the apartment above and threw a brick which shattered the person’s window. This also suddenly started for no apparent reason.

I guess the intent of the filmmaker was to deliberately leave this ambiguous to let individual viewers form their own conclusions, which would lead to different interpretations of the movie. This, along with new and novel ideas that result from discussions this would culminate in the viewer forming a personal relationship with his own creative process with the additional perk of sparking creativity for aspiring screen writers.

At least that’s what one well known director said about his own movies. I can’t remember who it was. David Lynch, maybe? The question is: Does the filmmaker have the skills to make it work? Someone like Richard Linklater clearly doesn’t while Scorsese can do any fucking thing he wants and it’ll work because he’s fucking Scorsese. Except for Kundun and Hugo lol. David Lynch’s stuff are kinda hit or miss. Mostly misses IMO. I fucking hated Lost Highway but liked Mulholland Drive.

And we also have great filmmakers who make shit. Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival and the Blade Runner sequel were rubbish IMO but Sicario was magnificent. De Palma makes as much crap as he makes near masterpieces. Coppola completely lost his mojo after Apocalypse Now and the only good thing he made after that was Dracula. The Rainmaker looked like it could have been made by any half decent filmmaker. Even Spielberg’s movies after Munich have mostly been awful. And don’t get me started on great Hong Kong directors who started making movies in the US and China.

And this doesn’t mean a small number of hipster nerds who like overthinking self-indulgent drivel will latch on to some stuff that’s not worth the effort. And some of them actually end up making good movies. I thought Donnie Darko was nonsense made by an untalented director and his later films confirmed that. But I can’t deny it’s influence on some good movies were inspired by it.

Maybe I’m jaded by age or a over saturation of superhero type movies… but im not overly excited by it. So far I’ve only watched a hour and might finish it off in my leisure. Yeah its OK movie… certainly not a oh my God this is the best thing since sex mentality im seeing from some out there.

I also watched the extended cut of justice league… They really upped the ante on the violence!

The theatrical release was a movie for children, this… Arguably wasn’t. Seemed too dark/graphic for pre-teens and the likes. Akin to the extended cut of BVS, but not quite as dark and gloomy.

There were quite a few scenes I felt could’ve been cut with no effect regarding character development or overall film quality. Flash saving his future wife… Why? She wasn’t in the rest of the film… Who cares?

Yeah, it’s not great. I guess it’s a symbol of triumph of nerd rage over large corporations or some shit. Or maybe HBO Max just wants more subscribers and you’re their main demographic, you dumb fucks.

I’m just fine with it actually making some sense. I’m not a Snyder fan but I have a soft spot for him because of his eye for visuals(seriously, say what you want about him but the dude has exceptional skills in that department) and his great taste in music lol.

I’ve been working with a new cinematographer on a couple of small projects and he’s so good I don’t even need to storyboard stuff. All I have to do is say something like, “I want a Michael Bay “Hero shot” here” or some angles from 90’s HK movies using wide angle lenses and he can replicate that on the fly while positioning the lighting and stuff. But he can’t replicate Snyder.

They already saved Martha? :joy:

Pretty much sums up the hype was from the nerd rage …

From what I am hearing its not exactly burning up the charts for the company in regards to views and new subscriptions for HBO max. Fucked up factoring in they spent a reported a additional 70mill on it.
