The Return of Even More Movies You've Watched This Week III

No I stopped after episode 3. The show is good but the story of Edmund Kemper is a lot more fascinating so I went and read up on him instead. I may continue where I left off during the holidays.

As with a lot of shows, it gets REALLY good mid season and the second season was spectacular, I’d definitely recommend you finish it. But yeah, Ed Kemper is an interesting one, haha.

I liked it a lot more than I expected to after the first 10 minutes.

I also liked The Outlaw King on Netflix. It’s about Robert the Bruce and his war for Scottish independence after William Wallace. 7/10

I liked the Outlaw King too, just seemed like it needed to be an hour longer. The King could have been a series, but at least felt like a more complete movie.

On the topic of medieval Netflix The Last Kingdom is pretty good but the books are better.

I loved it. It’s my kind of film. Really, strongly reminded me of Casino and Goodfellas in parts (for obvious reasons).

It’s taken a lot of stick for being slow and too long. I think this is due to the fact it’s on Netflix it’s drawn in a lot of people who wouldn’t pick it at the cinema/Blockbusters etc.

Alright, I’m calling it.

Rey is the lovechild of Jar Jar Binks and that guy from NYPD Blue.

If the leaks are true… Its going to be a shit show!!! It pretty much takes a shit on the original trilogy

They’ll get some money from me, but I’m bracing for another massive disappointment that shits all over my childhood.

I don’t get why they’re making things so complicated.

Force Ghosts can shoot lightning bolts. Get a whole army of them. Samuel L Jackson shoots a lightning bolt up Kylo Ren’s ass. Get them to pilot a couple of planes and crash into the next Death Star while in hyperdrive. Rey goes to the Casino Planet to feed the animals. Twin Suns set. The end.

Don’t do it. You know you’ll regret it. And you’ll feed the people saying it must have been a good movie because it grossed so much money.

Those concepts they brought up in the last one really fucked things up… are you aware of any of the leaks that have been out which are starting to be confirmed?

I read a couple of articles about the ending being reshot after bad test screenings or something.

But I gotta confess I don’t understand the more in-depth stuff since I’ve never been a real Star Wars fan lol. I’ve only watched the first 2 chapters of the original trilogy and some parts of the one with Ewoks. And I hated the prequels.

I know there is tons of detailed complicated analysis of why the sequels are bad, break the universe, etc. However, the bigger problem is that the sequels mess up Star Wars on a narrative level.

At the end of RoTJ, Luke becomes a valiant Jedi. Anakin is redeemed. Palpatine is defeated and dead. Han is a dedicated, selfless leader who has found something greater and more important than himself. Leia has achieved the freedom fighting mission that she has dedicated her life to and is ready to step into either political leadership or Jedi training. Han and Leia are together and committed to each other. Obi-Wan and Yoda are at peace and proud of what Luke has accomplished. All of these arcs feel natural, earned, and satisfying.

The sequels throw literally all of them out (assuming spoilers are accurate that Palpatine is actually alive) without any sort of justification. It’s basically the inversion of an unearned victory. An unearned defeat, if you will. The danger of an unearned victory is that it removes the conflict and development if the narrator can just come in at the end and make it all right no matter what. The danger of this unearned defeat is that the hard earned victories are shallow and meaningless if they can be thrown out as if they never even happened.

Also, there is an entire wall full of Chekov’s guns that I don’t think will ever shoot anyone.

Interesting…

Hopefully it’ll have the main characters wake up suddenly at the beginning, imply “the last Jedi” was just a bad dream, and then pick up where “the force awakens” left off.

It’s at least encouraging to hear it makes an attempt to fix some things from the last movie, not sure how much will actually be possible. The previews look like they could be from at least 3 completely different movies, sounds like it may have some issues trying to fit way too much in.

Oh for fuck’s sake. The real Ip Man FLED CHINA because of the CCP. Now you’re turning him into a nationalistic symbol? In the late 60s? To teach foreigners morals? Right at the start of the fucking Cultural Revolution???

I’m cautiously optimistic to see such bad reviews from the same critics who gave The Last Jedi a 91% fresh rating.

I read some of the negative reviews. I can taste the salt. Critics are supposed to be objective. If it sucks, state why it sucks. What is all this nonsense about “toxic fandom” and shit?

the adjective “toxic” is the new “racist” … it just doesn’t have the same oomph as it used to - it’s becoming almost a throw away word … fuckin’ commies watering down the language man

Its basically a insult used to discredit someones argument when someone else cant come up with a intelligent counter argument . Especially if the said argument is based on well thought out and is reasonable regarding a entertainment property. Much in the way you would viewed by some as toxic regarding your stance on Black Panther or Captain Marvel… even if your stance is based on the merits of the film without bringing in race or gender.
