The Return of Even More Movies You've Watched This Week III

Just finished season 2. If there’s not a season 3 I’ll go berserk.

Seeing how well S2 is going, I can’t imagine they wouldn’t renew for a S3 … I’m loving the Brian/Tench family plot line man … Saw it coming from S1 tbh.

I’m interested in the Atlanta plot line but not all THAT much (coming off of E7, it feels a bit dragged out - I was expecting more BTK action to this point tbh) and the Wendy plot line is meh to me so far … I don’t want to give too much away

Also, I find Wendy to be sexy as all hell

Anna Torv is great, and Secret City is a great show starring her on Netflix as well.

The Atlanta storyline heats up right around where you’re at - and it’s mostly true too. But yes, the Brian storyline as well as the shaping of the “new” serial killer who’s been evolving the whole show- those are the best parts of the show.

I guess a lot of this show is based on a guy names John Douglas … he’s written a few books about his involvement in these interviews and the development of this department in the FBI … I’m not sure which character is based on him (I’d think it’d be Holden but I could be wrong as Bill seems to be the main focus this season).

It’s Holden, 100%. John Douglas was also the inspiration for the two main guys in Criminal Minds (Mandy Patinkin and whoever the other guy is).

He’s genuinely made some pretty ridiculous predictions pinpointing suspects’ car by make, model and color, and all sorts of other things. And he interviewed all those serial killers as well - BTK, Manson, etc. His book was called Mindhunter. I saw a documentary that talked a bunch about him a while back, and he was on an episode of Forensic Files. Cool dude, although I’m sure some of his exploits are exaggerated.

Big fan from her Fringe days. Is she a prominent character in this Mindhunter series?

Yes.

Good call. I went and checked it out. Just finished episode 2 and all I can say is:

HOLY FUCK. A psychological crime drama that actually works as a psychological drama because it understands how to depict the dynamics of power play with dialogue and camerawork? I’ve not seen something like this in this genre since Silence of the Lambs.

Yes, dude. Also - the acting from the serial killers is just beyond incredible. Enjoy it, man.

Finished season 2 … I expected 10 episodes so that was disappointing … sad about Atlanta man … jacked up corrupt politicians man … could tell how disgusted and shamed Holden was … the actor playing Bill knows his character and plays it so damn good … can’t imagine they would not renew

Yeah 9 episodes is a fucked up thing to do to us, haha. But I can say that they completed the story arc sufficiently. Bill is definitely awesome, but Ed Kemper May be the best actor on that show.

Kemper is pretty good … I thought the guy who did Manson this season was damn good … a bit hammy but I think that was the essence of Manson if I’m not mistaken…

My review of Mindhunter:

Pros: It was really good.

Cons: I got a boner during a scene when I shouldn’t have gotten a boner and I’m not sure what to make of it.

Yeah seen all of them it was really good!

Honestly what you could make of it really depends on what scene you got a boner in, and the takeaway could range from “you’re weird” to “you will be on Mindhunter season 30”

I’m fine. There’s nothing wrong with me. Besides, it was only a semi, not a raging erection like I had when I watched Silence of The Lambs. From Clarice. Not the other parts and definitely not when I hear Goodbye Horses.

Jodie Foster is one of my favorite actresses. Clariceeeeeee…

I really regretted having read the book before watching the movie -reduced scary creepy factor by 49.87359%.

Random fact: she’s from my generation, and it was known in college circles (back in early 80s) that Jodie liked girls -big secret back then LOL; ahh, how times have changed

I’ve held back ranting about Joker since it just opened last week but it’s now the second week and if you haven’t watched it yet, you are probably a U2 fan so I don’t care.

Why the fuck are so many critics intellectually wanking off over this movie? It just introduces a couple of themes from a couple of better movies in the 70s and 80s. A movie isn’t deep or profound when it’s themes are REFERENCES to OTHER MOVIES that actually explored said themes.

This doesn’t make it a bad movie either because exploration of these themes isn’t a fucking necessity given the objective of the story. A good movie can be a visual and emotional experience through it’s execution. It doesn’t have to be fucking deep and profound so you and your nerd buddies can give one another a handjob in an intellectual circle jerk.

I can do my own wanking off.

SPOILERS

The religion of the masses is Capitalism.

The talk show is a church. Teleprompters in the studio tell the audience when to clap, laugh, cheer and boo. Which is like corporations using mass advertising to tell people how to think.

The TV spreads the gospel to the masses. Robert De Niro is the priest, a messenger of God. Joker and his mother watch it religiously every night. He imagines himself entering the House of God and embracing a father figure.

Thomas Wayne is God - The fire and brimstone version. Not the Morgan Freeman version. Joker’s mother worships him. He is supposed to be “Gotham’s Savior”.

God refuses to acknowledge Joker as his son, which means he wasn’t created in His image. It’s an allusion to Lucifer feeling betrayed by God’s favoring of humans over him, which started the war in heaven.

Then he finds out he was adopted when he could have easily been his mother’s biological son but with a different father other than Thomas Wayne even though she worked for him and lived in the same mansion.

This addition to the plot serves no other purpose other than to shut the #metoo and #believewomen loons up. Thomas Wayne isn’t Arnold, or we would be talking about Crom.

Seeing this is a deep and profound film, and telling deep and profound stories requires a large pair of balls, this was likely not the case. What probably really happened is his mother had sex with a jackal and gave birth to him.

Which means Joker is THE ANTI-CHRIST.

He is invited to the church. Which is the House of God. He symbolically rejects God by killing the priest, also the father figure in his mind.

This starts a war, which commences the rise of the Anti-Christ. God is killed by a guy in a clown suit, whom is obviously Nietzsche.

Because of God is now dead, Bruce Wayne, aka Jesus, will never become the symbol of Order and Hope according to the scriptures, a role which he could have easily assumed from his position of privilege.

Jesus will become Batman, who is the Übermensch, which is why, although Joker is supposed to be his antagonist, they aren’t direct opposites since he was borne out of Chaos, which Joker served as the catalyst.

Batman will keep reliving the night of his parent’s death, overreacting to badly written plot devices like “Save Martha!”. He will return as many times as DC will keep making the same fucking movie. Probably for eternity.

Which is the why Joker tells the psychiatrist she “won’t get the joke”, which is assuming this scene happens after the events of The Dark Knight. Or maybe he’s just thinking about Jesus wearing a Batsuit with nipples at one point in the past.

There. Deep isn’t it?

I wholehearted agree with everything you just wrote. Seen it last night and thought of a similar ideology about it…

Also, whilst on the topic;

Sorry, had too.

I was a bit disappointed. The last 15 were really the only one where I was really into. I wanted more. More action
