Don’t forget all that was proven during GW1. Up until the first land battles were fought the Republican Guard was considered to be an “elite fighting force” and the Iraqi army the 4th largest in the world. Casualties of 10,000 per day were predicted and prepared for. Advance elements expected to be gassed.
In 2008 I agree with you about the T-72. Back then the T-72 was considered to be on par with the M-1. In reality it wasn’t. Night optics and fire control of the M-1 proved to be far superior. As you know speed kills and the T-72 was a few steps slower in all dpeartments.
It makes you think how the balance may have tipped in Western Europe had the conventional advantage been known to both sides when they were facing off against each other in Europe.
