What should Americans who do not want to pay taxes (to kill Iraqis) do? Leave the country? Maybe move to Canada and pay taxes to kill Taliban?
That would work.

At the risk of sounding naive, the least you can do is contest the decisions of the White House to wage wars of aggression. You can vote to change the situation and have guaranteed freedom of speech over there. Use 'em!

Don’t you have to take a viagra and clean your dentures?

(I can do exaggerated age jokes too! I’m special!)

“Wars” is plural. To which are you referring?
Afghanistan and Iraq, probably.

Afghanistan is not a war of aggression. We went in there to take out a terrorist group which attacked us several times.

Agreed. It was retaliation.

Iraq… not so much.

Panama, then?

Panama wasn’t a war. We brought stereos and had a big ass BBQ in Noriega’s front yard.

In all three cases (Afghanistan, Iraq and Panama), though, the end result was that we removed the ruling power through military force and… shall we say, encouraged the election of a more moderate administration whose policies would be more in line with U.S. interests (“installed a puppet regime” is such an ugly phrase, and one you’d never catch me using).

All military action has an aggressor and a defender. I tend to consider military actions on one’s own home turf against a foreign invader as being “defensive,” and all actions on somebody else’s turf as being “aggressive.”

As I see it, Afghanistan is a war. We are the aggressors, the Afghans are the defenders, by virtue of the fact that it’s their land. In my book, that makes it a war of aggression. You may call it a “retaliatory military action” if you so choose. Doesn’t change a thing.

And anyway, I’m not criticizing the war in Afghanistan. I was halfway up the side of Mt Fuji at 12 midnight on October 11 when I heard the word on Armed Forces Radio, and damned if I didn’t cheer, right there in the freezing dark. Hell, I’m not even criticizing aggression. It would be kind of hard to wage a “retaliatory military action” without being aggressive, don’cha think?

Ha! True enough.

I was writing a reply to the question, when this popped up on my RSS reader:

Now I’m just shaking with rage.

Fuck!

Yep, those hillbillies from WV sure were assholes. How are the assholes in your country?

Why would you be “shaking with rage” over a few rogue and unrepresentative “extremists” acting out on their own, and not representing anything larger than their own disgusting wants and needs? Why get outraged when it is clear that their actions don’t reflect what the American public at large or the American military believes and acts according to?

Sound familiar?

They keep their asshole-ness in their country.

Because they those motherfuckers were put there with the consent of the majority of Americans.

Because their horrendous actions were financed by American taxpayer money.

Because I don’t doubt that there is a lot more going on. Leaks such as these are exceptional, and the US army understandably does its best to keep it quiet.

Because it was all predictable from the start and that’s what the whole world was screaming to you from the top of its lungs.

Ooops-ee!
