When you do your pushups(5x10), do you do them weighted?

I’ve been running Sheiko 37 and usually do them with a miniband across my back, and was just wondering what you use, if anything.

Second question, do you find a difference between pulling from pins and pulling from blocks (assuming you do/have)?[/quote]

Push Ups, Lunges, Good Morning’s, Rear Delt Work (instead of dumbbell flyes) I believe are meant as restoration work so I do push ups with just bodyweight.

I find that Block Pulls are far superior than Rack Pulls. It mimics the mechanics of the deadlift. The main problem with rack pulls is body position. The set-up for a rack pull doesn’t exactly replicate the joint angles that occur in mid-pull. The movement winds up turning into a quarter squat rather than the completion of a deadlift, as trainees begin the movement with a near-upright torso and simply extend the knees (without much concern for the hips). With block pulls, you’re still pulling with your hips, so it’s still hip extension.

Awesome, thanks for the explanations. Do you sub out flyes for read delt work all the time, or occasionally? And what kind of weight do you use typically, for GMs and lunges? Something significantly less than a 5rm?

Thanks

Oh, and speaking of Animals As Leaders, my brother built custom 8 strings for Tosin and Javier, but they don’t play them live (I think Javier sold his?) since they got signed by Ibanez. ‘Cool story bro’, I know.

I sub out flyes for rear delts because doing facepulls do stretch out your pec and they help pull your upper body into its natural alignment, with the shoulder blades back and down.

For Good Morning, I use the Safety Squat bar, with a plate on each side, and basically doing a weight hamstring stretch. I do bodyweight lunges, and focus on keeping my torso upright and go for a long stride to stretch out my hip flexors.

I mean I saw then about 2 weeks ago and he was playing his Stranberg, I don’t know the situation on his Ibanez sponsorship since he does use his other non-Ibanez axes.

Cool log, and while I’m not a competitive lifter I agree completely about the westside approach.

Good points on the face pulls, and doing 5x10 db flyes starts getting old after a while. And damnit I need an SSB. I just throw straps around my straight bar and make a ghetto SSB for now. Thanks again man

Thanks man, I appreciate that others have the same view on it, makes me feel less crazy when I have Westside adherents look at me in confusion when I tell them I don’t agree with that approach.

Yeah, I never liked doing the flyes, it would cause my elbows to get a little beat up, and I actual prefer doing the cable crossover machine or doing flyes with two bands rigged on the power rack to do band flyes, but I figured it’d be more economical to do rear delt work instead.

Anytime man, I like my log to continue to be a discussion forum as well as my training log, so I appreciate the feedback and questions.

  1. You guys wrote that when you were in High School? That’s fairly impressive. We were rocking out Misfits/Metallica/Pro-Pain, etc covers in High School lol.

  2. I’ve been lusting after a Parker ever since i saw Internal Bleeding. That’s gotta be like 10 yrs ago by now.

  1. Ha, we’re pretty nerdy
  1. I got the Parker for Jazz ensemble and I use for some Classical stuff since I don’t have an acoustic.

I hadn’t heard any of your music yet; quite enjoyable. Did you play at all when you were at Clemson? Metal is few and far between down here

Nah, I was just working on my chops at Clemson. As of today, I don’t really play tech death anymore for the most part, maybe if I did the singing, but not really into playing that style anymore.

I’m into stuff like Isis and Pelican with some Djent rather than straight up Spawn of Possession, Suffocation, or Decapitated

Ah, that’s neat. So you were like pete, but actually good lololololol. I’m really digging The Faceless, Insomnium, and Upon a Burning Body right now.

Haha, nah, from the few times we screwed around Pete’s a good player.

I’m working on my double thumb technique on guitar like so.

That guitar stuff is insane. I’ve never played, but I played drums/vocals for some bands in high school.

Yeah, it’s pretty ridiculous stuff. I’m a slave to the metronome.

But to be fair I’m also into this a lot more ha

or

Check this guy out. At the end he’s playing so fast I can’t even comprehend it.

God that guy that sucks, his music is terrible.

Speed isn’t everything

I’ll put this up for my ear’s sake

Satriani is awesome.

How about some Buckethead? Guy can shred like no other

Or just play some of the most melodic, harmonic, awesome guitar out there

Buckethead is amazing, although I guess I have to in a certain mood to listen to him. Electric Tears is actually one of my favorite songs.

GG also hits a soft spot. His playing is so soulful and have madly awesome feel.

A buddy of mine whose band made it big in the death metal scene. Very happy for him, and his band is awesome.
