I’m wondering how someone would set up block periodization if they just wanted to get stronger, not do a meet. Would a peaking phase still be required?

Everything, just everything lol.

Indeed I am and thanks for the knowledge bomb. Now if I could just find time to spend the requisite 2 hrs in the gym to run Sheiko. Do you do any recovery/light lifting on your off days?

You wouldn’t. Block Periodization was conceived for Olympic caliber athletes. I don’t want to come off as arrogant, but I intend to become a World Class level Powerlifter in Raw and Multi-Ply, so there’s a practical need to try block for someone like me. It would be practical to do a program like 5/3/1 if you’re goal is to get stronger, but not necessarily compete.

I only did trendmill stuff for 30min on off days when I get sore. When my body has adapted to a program, I don’t do anything extra in recovery work.
I’d like to hear about training history, past goals, future goals, training philosophy, interesting stories and anecdotes, pearls of wisdom, your interpretation and reviews of training styles, drug knowledge, higher level competition knowledge and general advice.
I know it’s a lot, but I’m serious. And you seem to enjoy writing! Win, win, win.

So how would you set up block periodization with a specific test date/meet in mind?
Looks good in here, obviously : ).
Will definitely be following this log.

Ha, it’s probably because I use to be a serious writer back in High School, won a few poetry and creative writing stuff back in the day.

My ultimate goals are to hit a 2000lb raw total and a 2500 equipped total, I think having both of those would put me in the discussion of top 10 best lifters ever.
Training Philosophy: The problem I see with a lot of lifters is they don’t practice the competition lift enough. There are some programming considerations to make when you do this, but to ignore the competitive lift is a big mistake. There’s more to learning your gear than you’ll be able to get in the last 4 weeks before the meet. Regardless if you’re raw or equipped you have to train how you’re going to compete. There’s so much more to learning the gear than the average powerlifter thinks. If you think you can wear the gear for a few weeks and “learn it” right before the meet, you’ll never be refined enough in it to realize your potential. You want the contest lifts to be automatic. To get there you need to do many many reps just the same way you do them in the meet. This includes gear. The thing that makes me think Powerlifting training hasn’t evolved is that it’s still such a simplistic approach. Look around at how powerlifters program training. Most people think a template is a program. There’s not much “staging” of training going on. Few people are even aware of how much volume they do, or what the various measures of volume even are. I’m not trying to be a jerk, so please hear me out. I’m also nowhere close to perfect on these things. I’m just trying to highlight that there is so much more that we, in general, can learn about training. I believe to be great, you have to look at Powerlifting like any other sport, you have to be skill specific, and train the qualities of what Powerlifting demands i.e. limit strength, speed strength, etc. in order to hit the upper echelons of strength.
I have a lot of stories, I mean just today before I trained I was having a conversation with Vincent Dizenzo of elitefts for about 90min before I trained, catching up and talk training. Discussed Block Periodization since he is going to be using it for his next meet prep. It was cool talking to him as almost as if we were equals about it. He supports my idea of doing USAPL meets even though both of us dislike that Federation, but that’s another story.
As for reviews of training programs, I guess the biggest thing controversy is that I’m anti-Westside? I disagree with almost all of it for the most part.
For drugs, I’m drug free. There might be a time when I go to the dark side, but not yet.
Is there anything else you want to know about? I’m not good with general questions, I prefer specific questions.

Haha…I’m here for good.
Oh! Oh! I have a question!!!
Is there enough room on your left nut for me to swing from it too? Or am I going to have to hang out on the right one?
Specific question time lol
1 - Your interpretation on the “various measures of volume” and volume of training in general
2 - Why you are anti-westside
3 - Why the USAPL sucks - this is good because I was on the edge about competing in one of their upcoming meets
