Ha, thanks man, I appreciate it. How’s your deadlift coming along? I remember you were doing the Ed Coan/Phillipi program a while back, how’d it go?
Damn you have a good memory, that was a while ago. Thanks for asking. I actually just did my first meet…went 363.8/242.5/440.9 @192.4lbs, just missed a 451.9 pull. Right now my best pull is that 440.9. Deadlift is coming along nicely, looking to get to 500!
I like to think all that fish oil is working then ha, that’s good stuff man. What was your deadlift prior?
Lolwut. Well, my DL started out at 225 on 7/12/10…pulled 315 end of 2010…pulled 405 6/29/11. Monday I pulled 410x2 for a PR double. Everything is coming along pretty well.

Long term omega 3 supplementation is suppose to help long term memory.

Nice progress on the deadlift man, keep going at it my brother

Yeah, I hope to do well, I have a bet with ajweins here for who’s going to pull 700 first. I think he has 660 to my 630, but I tend to make big jumps when I max out after a training cycle, so it’s still up for grabs.

Get after it man! Yeah I have a race going with inkaddict (that queer who posted earlier in your log) for who’s going to pull 500 first. Im at 440, he’s pulled 450. I must win lol.

Look forward to stalking you again

Once I’m settled, hopefully I can figure out going out there periodically to get my PLer on.

Obvi will be following this log and stealing ideas.

lol, the things I’m talking over with tomtom might be too far out there for most guys to try to want to steal. Sheiko is as “normal” as I go when it comes to training routines bug<3

Alright, some background information at the gym I train at. I train at strength speciality gym called Total Performance Sports. This has more or less been the only gym I’ve ever gone to since I first started lifting weights. It’s one of the few gyms I know that houses Olympic Weightlifters, Strongmen, Powerlifters, and MMA/combat sports (like legit MMA not the wanna be crowd)

We have training days every month at the gym, where we train on lift, (last time it was the power clean) were it is open invite. It was cool to see one of my buddies, Nikkta work his magic as he’s a Russian Master of Sport in Olympic Weightlifting, and is getting ready for the Olympic games.
“He’s gonna thrust his hips fowad into da bah, come up on his toes, jump, and shrug. He’s then gonna pull himself undah da bah…”

 what a great metro-Boston accent hahaha. Is the narrator north-shore born and raised? Sounds a little different from the Rockland accent.

Back on topic, having an exercise-of-the-month training day is a great idea.

The owner of TPS goes by Murph, he contributes to Elitefts, you can ask him stuff in the Q&A

http://www.elitefts.com/documents/cj_murphy.htm

He does my nutrition when I need to get sexy like bug and gives me coaching cues and feedback on my lifting performances. He also calls my attempts at meets. While stronghold/tomtom here does my programming, my outside eyes are Murph and the staff at the gym since I’m of the better lifts that competes regularly.

Heres the vid you asked for det! You can see what Im talking about on the second rep. Thanks man!

I’d also work on the set up. You’re body is not in the best mechanical position. I’d wear wrestling shoes/chucks/ballet slippers/etc. The basic position for the sumo deadlift is like a wide stance squat, the weight has to be set on your heels, spread the floor, and active the glutes, which will subsequently fire the hamstrings. Although you’re keeping your head up, you’re not pulling with your chest up, causing the bar to fall away from you. Pay attention to my body position and how I try to fall backwards or “falling back” when I pull sumo. When you deadlift, don’t think about pulling “up” you want to conceptualize pulling “back” or “falling backwards” that’s how you’re going to use all of your posterior chain when you pull.

Oh, and I’m a bit of a music nerd, if you couldn’t figure it out already. This song is pure bliss.

Thanks for that man, I have incorporated back raises now so I guess Im starting off doing somethign right. I will work on the setup, I am wearing chucks. Watching my video compared to yours I see what you mean about pulling with my chest up compared to what you do. Appreciate the information!

I would highly recommend doing the back raise with your toes pointing out, and keep your heels on the pad and “spread the floor” like a squat/deadlift and use a ssb if you have one or ever a regular straight bar and arch your back when you do back extensions to mimic the same body position of the squat/deadlift.

As always though, treat every weight weight the bar or 1000lbs with perfect technique. I can’t stress that enough, bug and anyone else who knows me will tell you that I treat technique as the most important aspect of training.

Ok I will do that. And yes, that is a cue that I need to remember, treat every weight as a PR weight. Thanks again det.

Digging the training tips. Also i <3 animals as leaders.

I’m glad, I coach my own powerlifting team at TPS, so I’m always in cerebral sort of coaching state when it comes to training. I also think having Murph and one of his guys (my first pl coach) train me and instill me the philosophy of always critically think about what I need to do to get better has become part of my lifting style.

So, by all means feel free to ask questions or talk training on my log. I know these things can get kind of boring when it just it numbers posting, so I’d love to have discussion and idea exchange here.

I love AAL, Tosin is the main reason why I picked up the 8 string guitar.

I gotta meet in a week and a half with a nice bendy deadlift bar. Get scared.
