There once lived a great chef who loved food. Not only was he a master of culinary arts, his body reflected something of great rugged health from the good food he would eat. It was his passion. In addition to making great dishes that were pleasing to the eye, the bliss he would get from eating his food was great because the work in the hot kitchen would make him very hungry. His employer knew that this man was a great worker. He commended his work and approved of the image this man gave to his customers. One day, a customer approached the chef.
“Can I ask you a question?” The Customer inquired.
“Surely” The chef said
“Why are you a chef?”
“Because I loved Food!”
“Well, if you love food, why don’t you work for me as a food taster? I am starting my own business here, and need people to taste the food for my business. I will pay you more, and you can eat all the food you want.”
“No thanks, I enjoy cooking, and the food I cook has fair enough taste. I also have an agreement with my employer that I can cook my own food on my breaks and eat for half price.”
“Surely the food you eat is good, but mine is just as good, and I will not give it to you for half price…instead I will pay you double what you make here. Plus, what do you like more, Cooking food and eating it for nourishment, or eating it for the pleasure it gives you?”
The Customer then gave him a sample and the Chef ate it and was marveled. He then agreed to work for the customer.
Eventually, the Chef was able to acquire plenty of money from his work. However, his once great rugged appearance had dissipated because all he did was eat the food for taste. The more important primary aspect of the food–The Nourishing Aspect–was put on the back burner. The food which once had two important components, that is, Nourishment and sensual pleasure from the taste, were divorced. Many other cooks at the old restaurant followed the Chef’s example. They exclaimed
“Why bother working strenuously here for little pay, when we can work for the Customer and get paid to eat? After all, the pleasure we get from eating is all we care about anyway. Plus, we will be able to save money in the long run”
Eventually, many others who worked in other Restaurants followed suit. They scoffed at the people who worked as Chefs and Cooks. They said:
“Look at you dumb asses! You’re pathetic! What kind of Man chooses to Cook when he can just Eat? You know you’re hungry all the time! We may be getting fat, but our boss pays us enough to remedy this problem”
Now every so often, the people who worked for The Customer would come down with various illnesses because not every piece of food they ate was clean. But cooks who stayed in this restaurant did not have this problem because they cooked their own food. So the cooks exclaimed at The Customer:
“What have you done to us? Many people here are getting sick. The food that looks and tastes good is now getting us sick”
“Don’t worry” The Customer assured them. “I will give you some free tools that can detect and prevent you from coming down with any sort of illness. This way, you can eat all you want without getting sick. These tools are 97% effective, so chances are, you won’t get sick. In addition to this, I will provide you with a means of expelling the food in case the tools fail and you become ill. But the means of expelling the food will not be free, and will cost 1 days pay”
Eventually, the Cooks and Chefs who worked for The Customer became too reliant on the tools as a means of security to detect the uncleanliness of the food. Since The Customer was able to boom his business, he acquired 5 million workers. Since the tools The Customer provided were only 97% effective, around 150,000 workers would become ill from the food. Those who were ill were then compelled to undergo the expulsion procedure of the food for 1 days pay.
As time passed, many workers of The Customer were becoming so content from eating the food they were too lazy to utilize the tools (which gave them a false sense of security) provided by The Customer that detected and prevented the foods that could make them sick. The Customer knew this and knew the people loved the food he provided. His business skyrocketed because the workers became too lazy and content to utilize the tools. So more and more of them were content with undergoing the procedure that expelled the food. So The Customer not only made great money from his food he sold, but also from the procedure which expelled the food.
Now the Chef who loved to cook saw this going on, and went back to his old job. The people who worked for The Customer continued to get fat, lazy, and sick. Sometimes the expulsion procedure was so painful for workers, they became mentally traumatized. But some didn’t care. The Customer knew that most workers just wanted to eat good tasting good, so his business continued to boom. However, the Chef who went back to his old job was able to grow in strength and virtue because he learned that although the food tasted good, the satisfaction he got from his work was greater and it reflected in his image.
