Since there are people from all over the world on here, I want to ask…
Are any of you traveling to see the Total Eclispe???
I live in smalltown Texas and our Mayor has done everything but declare a state of emergency for our little town. I think he would if he could. One Texas county already has.
He is telling people to stock on everything like groceries, meds, gas, etc… get all your errands done, the cell phone towers are going to crash and we may not be able to call emergency services. The words he has used is… prepare to “hunker down” until it’s over. He says people are going to descend on our little town like a swarm of locust and consume all our resources.
I’m old and I don’t “get it”. It’s an eclispe. Why are people losing their minds over this?
So, I ask again… Do you plan on traveling to the path of totality?
People are, in general, idiots. Social media conspiracy crap, astrology, and flat earthers, and the death of expertise all contribute to the panic over everything.
People in Florida panic over category 2 hurricanes now. From old timers here, that was unheard of. A category 2 isn’t much worst than a Midwest thunderstorm, it just lasts longer.
This is going to be such an annoying weekend. I’m on the path, too. We are used to significant summer tourism in New Braunfels, but I have a feeling this is going to be flat out stupid.
There’s a powerlifting meet up in Belton that week, I tried to book a hotel for it in November and everything was gone. AirBNB had a few options left at the time. Nobody goes to Belton.
Yeah, the motels here and in Fredericksburg have been booked two years in advance.
But, I have been seeing several listings for last minute cabins and RV spots for outrageous amounts of money… lol
Belton has never been Hotspot of activity
I believe Bell county was the one that declared a state of emergency.
Late last year (October) the Solar Eclipse totality path was about three hours south of where I live. It went over my favorite little town in central Utah. I went down to see it, and still found a nice cliff to myself. It was way busier than usual, and there were cars parked on the side of the road everywhere, bit harder to find a camp spot, etc. Other than that, it was fine. The grocery store and C-stores were not cleaned out. Restaurants still had food.
Looks like it’s 97% over me according to the map. Could drive 2 hours for best view but April in the Northeast, I’m expecting grey skies. I’ll stay put
